Customers all then blame the shop for it.

The shaking steering wheel is a bad torque sensor, that was a manufature issue in some fords for a few years

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Could be worse. Could be my problem.

Saw a young man driving a honda civic (stock, mind you) with his rear right wheel camber at something like 15-20 degress. No, the left was 0 degrees, or orthoganal. A nerve wracking experience... hours to minutes left on that wheel.

Speaking as an ex-mechanic, some of these are on the customer for letting it get as bad as it did, and some of them I appreciate the accuracy of their description to help me diagnose what their actual concern is. Some are both. That said, if your car is making noise that sounds like metal grinding, or you're steering is wonky, go get it fixed today. Tomorrow will only make it more expensive either with the repair cost or medical bill cost from your car hitting the wall at highway speeds.

The overall failure of arts education is that people don't realize that illustrative language, analogies, metaphors, etc. can actually communicate things really effectively despite being less direct/technical. 'Truck sounds like a snare drum' tells you more than just 'truck makes a rattling noise.'

Fuck your ai voiceover.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Majority of these "customers" shouldn't be driving, like any vehicle at all!

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've seen the first one at the Toyota dealer I was working at... Tech didn't test drive it... drove it straight into the shop and the wheel went: "Camber gang yo!!!" as he turned on his bay... It's amazing that you can tolerate a bearing noise that long... Also seen 7 layers of floor mats and towels... when we've done so many fucking recalls for the "sticky" gas pedals...

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Thanks so much for this. I work at a dealership in the office. Ive seen some shit on the work orders than I couldn't make up. Sigh.

I see 'costumer' all the time but I like how custumer covers all your possible 'u' bases.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, they're not wrong. Sometimes customers should be demoted to passengers though.

1 month ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Or to "previous owner"

1 month ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

This is why we can't have flying cars.

1 month ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Flying cars would be like 9/11 every fucking day. It wouldn't even necessarily be intentional, but does it matter *why* there's a burning car stuck in the 30th floor of an office building.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is why we /shouldn't/ have flying cars. We can have them but we get a lot of dead people too. Also, the efficiency is absolute shit.

1 month ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Like I always say, I don't trust you fuckers to drive in one direction on two dimensions. No way any of you fools are prepared or qualified to deal with more.

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

My wife saw a car fly once. Right into the side of a box truck. It was... messy, and the police would not believe it happened even with multiple witnesses.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Unless we shift heavily towards Star Trek alike society, we will never have flying cars.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

These people drive next to us everyday. And they vote as well.

If you have to fill the tires every day, surely you notice the state of the tire. Right?

Cars in Norway are recommended to have service once a year and all have to have mandatory EU controls every other year where they check a bunch of things, and if something doesn't work as intended you have to get it fixed for the car to be road legal.

1 month ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

God damn commies trying to take away my choo choo seat /s

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Aka "road safety inspections". They have them in many countries, like TUeV in Germany, MOT in Britain, and even in "some" American states.

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Huh, that doesn't sound anything like sn... oh nvm, it does!

1 month ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

What is that we’re hearing? Valve slap?

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Slipping chain? I have no idea.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It could actually just be a body part rattling. Those rigs can vibrate pretty hard.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I gotta take my ride in tomorrow. I fear it may end up on one of these videos...

1 month ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Me too! Moved to QC and, in order to get QC plates, I have to get a safety cert done. I don't know of any problems but we'll see.

As someone who has only seen parts of the brakes when swapping out a tire, can someone explain to me what's wrong with the brakes in that "squeaking" section? I'm assuming pads are completely worn down or something, but what does it / should it look like?

1 month ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

It's a joke. There's a dead mouse in there.

1 month ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

OH GOD I'M BLIND

1 month ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Nah, it's a bit hard to see and the customer sure as hell didn't state anything. That little mouse skull would silently grind to powder in a disc brake.

1 month ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

1 month ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It's grey on grey, and their angle is pretty bad for most of that shot.
When the mouse is finally in view, they quickly cut away...

1 month ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The tire rotation bit: I can see where the confusion is. Typical rotations are clockwise or counterclockwise on all 4 tires, directional rotations would be considered "lateral" by some in their minds.

So this isn't a WTF thing and more of "rotations mean this, and not that" when it in fact is "Rotations can be both, just different on context".

Remember, a lot of Americans don't exceed a certain grade level in reading comprehension skill.

1 month ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

It's all right as long as you rotate the air in the tires. While you're at it, repack or replace the muffler bearing.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It should be, but most places are too lazy and just do front to rear. I keep asking for cross at Discount Tire and don't get it.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mark them with a sharpie. Like "move this tire to front left"

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Are the "customer states" the smaller states that are dominated by larger states?

1 month ago | Likes 88 Dislikes 1

They're all probably in Florida

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Doesn't need to be smaller, e.g. take Russia and China.

1 month ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Yes, you may be more familiar with the term "client state"

1 month ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Customer states are the ones who are always right

More examples of why personal vehicles should not be the primary mode of transportation.

1 month ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Also more examples of why we don't have flying cars yet. Imagine aircraft in the skies with this level of poor maintenance

1 month ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Even if they were well maintained, the general public should not have them https://xkcd.com/864/

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

There may come a day when autonomous flying vehicles are safe and reliable enough that a person can ride in one but I doubt that I'll see it in my lifetime

Hahahahaha don't look into the aerospace companies and their track records of shit maintenance.

I'm glad I live in a place where stuff doesn't rust.

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 6

1 month ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

No, I live in the desert where there isn't much moisture for rust to start. It makes replacing parts much easier because I don't have to fight rust to get fasteners off.

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Im glad i dont drive cause id have to surrounded by people like this and that scares me.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They got rid of them in my state in the nineties, right as I was getting licensed. I think I had to have my car inspected exactly once. And even I, as a teenage girl, knew it was dumb as fuck to get rid of it. I knew it cuz my dad's always been the sort to kludge together half-assed and potentially dangerous "repairs" and had failed inspections for it before. Had to get shit fixed the right way before passing. Now he's out there tooling around in a beater held together with JB Weld and wishes.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My state just catered to all the idiot liberations here and got rid of them a few years ago. Madmax on the streets now.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Considering how easy it is to get a driver licence in the states compared to civilized countries, I'm not surprised.

1 month ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

I only recently learned that vehicle inspections are not mandatory across the United States, in fact only a minority of states require safety and/or emissions inspections. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_inspection_in_the_United_States

1 month ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 0

I used to think inspections were a stupid waste of my money when I was abroke teenager. Then I grew up and worked in a Oil change shops for years. JFC the things people ignored on cars. We did not do repars, so all we could do was suggest they see a mechanic ASAP when we saw critical things. Bald ass tires were the least of what we saw daily. That and this: Do NOT buy a fancy expensive car (on payments) if you cannot afford the right goddamn oil in it. Read up on your car before buying!

1 month ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

It's even worse that most states that do inspection in the US just plug up to the diagnostic port and take whatever readout that gives on emissions and safety for its word and then send you on your way.

1 month ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

Computers er smarter than any 'ol boy's vizual inspektion anywayz! /s

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I live in one of the "annual inspection" states, just got mine done two weeks ago, and it's about as useless as your comment states. State inspection SHOULD be a good thing, but the execution makes it both just about worthless, while also eating up far too much of the driver's time and possibly money every year.

1 month ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

It gives a baseline what to look for and needs to pass, but mechanics make a lot of money finding issues during inspections. In my experience unless you push to let things slide, they go out of the way to check for things wrong or borderline going bad. It makes no sense for them to half ass it.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I used to live in Germany and passing an annual car inspection was like a colonoscopy for your car... one fucker would poke at anything vaguely brown with a screwdriver looking for rust...

TBH, it made driving infinity on the Autobahn a little more comforting knowing everyone else was inspected.

In the US, I just get emissions checked every two years.

1 month ago | Likes 98 Dislikes 2

In my state only 7 counties (allegedly the most populated ones) have to emissions test every other year, and it's a pain to do now because an earlier governor ended state emissions testing facilities so now you have to hunt down an auto shop or a dealership that has the time and facilities to give you a hand.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In Victoria, Australia, you get the car roadworthied when you first register it, and are good to go indefinitely.

However police can pull you over and defect your car if they notice something.

1 month ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

In Delaware, and New Jersey (if I remember correctly) you get a full check every year, in Maryland if you move into state with a car or buy a used car, then it's every year, if you but a new car emissions every other year only.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sweden used to have inspections done by the government, but in 2010 private inspections where allowed. That has really turned things to shit, so many shady mechanics passing cars for a bit of extra money. A friend bought a car that had passed inspection with 0 faults, blank papers. One year later it failed due to dangerous structural rust, no brakes, no suspension. WHAT!? How did it pass in the first place? That dosnt happen in a year.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Annual? TĂśV is only every two years...

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In Michigan, nobody checks anything. You can buy a used car that is so rusty it barely casts a shadow, and if it moves and you put insurance and a plate on it, you can drive it.
I really, really wish we had inspections but it'll probably never happen.

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I’ve lived in Michigan my whole life and I always wondered about emission testing. It was something I’d hear on tv and what not, but never in real life.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Denmark here. First inspection after 4 years here, then every two years after that. I'm really happy we have that, even though there have been stories of inspectors being bribed to approve the cars without even looking at them. I witnessed the inspection of my car, that guy was VERY thorough.

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My state never checks. Them farmer boys don't like dat government telling them they got a shitty pick up truck

1 month ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 0

Mostly because they run "Farm Use" tags which don't legally require the same operating conditions as a commerical/personal vehicle. Around here, they do, anyway.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same. My Midwest state started requiring emissions checks around 1999.

The state built all kinds of infrastructure (testing stations, roads, traffic lights) to facilitate the emissions tests.

Some farmer boys got in the government and stopped requiring the emission tests. Shut down the program.

All the infrastructure for nothing. All the employees laid off.

We’re pretty strict here in New York. We’ll even fail you if your window tints are too dark, or your wipers streak a little.

In Iowa, if you have tinted windows you’re fine. Unless you’re a POC, have any stickers that question the government/pigs, or have out of state plates
