Its interesting how in an era where the screen could only be so compact due to how CRTs worked we got tons of odd novelty TVs. And now where you can put a high resolution OLED in basically anything you do not see novelty devices. I guess its because it would be easier to just sell a novelty smartphone dock or ipad dock.

I collect discarded vapes for the rechargable battery of off the street. Recently I found one with a 3x4cm LCD screen. Probably better than VGA resolution. Insane waste of material imho... On the positive side, there's someone on an electronics forum trying to figure out how to use a similar screen for other projects, so there's still some hope for a few of them to get reused...

In 1984 my wife (Pan Am Stewardess) brought this 25" Sony home from Japan. People came over to our house just to see it. Most big TV's were still the size and shape of a washing machine then. This even had stereo speakers attached to the sides.

Looks cool, but couldn't they have used some kind of double hinged construction to put the screen to the front of the base when opened? This way, it needs so much depth that it only makes sense to put it on a table in the middle of the room.

I'm asking. It's a weird shape but that doesn't seem like it would affect the functionality. The hinge part probably needs replaced every so often but that's the only potential issue I can think of and other TV's in that era likely had parts that would need to be replaced occasionally.

As a kid I had this really old black and white telly in my room that when you turned it off the static would disappear into a tiny dot in the middle that would then fade out. Also because I was a kid and experimented heaps I also found that after you turned it off if you rubbed the screen with an electrostatic material (eg a nylon top) it would produce blooms and flares of light.

My guess would be something like viewing all three cams on a news broadcast station or something, so they could see active live views of the other two screens and swap between them with real-time previews of exactly what the picture looks like
