What I hope people take from this and all the other moderate Dems sounding the alarm about the DSA is what doesn’t freak them out. The democrats getting slaughtered in 2024 doesn’t freak them out. Trump destroying huge parts of the government? Not that either. Imperialism and genocide? Barely a peep. BUT some young and exciting candidates that promise to actually make things better for YOU and not in some “incrementalism is the only way” BS, but REAL, immediate, and impactful change, THAT is what scares them. THAT is what will get them off the couch and force them to question their way of doing things. You can tell a lot about people by what does and doesn’t motivate them.

That's not a bad thing though, you need multiple parties to make people work together. That's how all these parliamentary systems work. You have to put together a functional majority for voting blocks. I don't love the current democratic party but if another party starts we can force the current to push more to the left in some ways.

It is not the two-part system per se, but that for too long campaign donations from the ultra wealthy has been what determines who gets elected. In both parties the politicians who actually listened to voters mostly got replaced with ones who listen to big business. Eventually you got a political establishment more loyal to each other and big business than their actual constituents. The two-party system makes it slightly worse, but it is a separate issue.

We should be able to pursue happiness with an education system that requires masters degrees in education and salaries that will motivate the best minds to teach rather than sell out to survive. For our police force and elected officials to be educated and not bough positions.

I vote in the Democratic Primaries for whomever proposes the best system of welfare, and then in the actual election I vote blue, like any sane person. Why wait until election time? As VJ describes here, the DSA is working year-round. Educating themselves and each other, organizing mutual aid, developing internal democracy, etc. are all things the DSA does in the off season. Simple analogy: If you don't exercise in the spring, don't expect your beach body to be ready in the summer.
