This sandwich, and the dude making it, are bullshit. Aesthetic over substance nonsense that looks good on a screen(I guess?) with shiny reds and steam and whatever the fuck else to get clocks and feed an algorithm. Has nothing to do with actual food.
ok I've talked a lot of shit about people who say "just make this at home" in regards to semi-simplistic street food, but I mean come the fuck on it's literally just tomato, cheese, and bologna
There are people in Somalia and other places in the world that would shit themselves with astonishment to see a sandwich like that prepared for one person. I'm not saying I don't love a Katz's Deli gargantuan pastrami sandwich, but watching this be prepared. It just struck me how large American portions can get.
my experience with deli sandwiches in New York (long island, not the city proper) is that if this were in the US, there would be at least 3x as much meat. it was frankly too much meat
When I visited NYC I was super jazzed about trying the pizza. We have all heard the stories. I got pizza from a bunch of places all over the city. None of it blew me away. What did tho was the sandwiches we got at a bodega and the bagles.
I miss the fact that there is always something open there. Even in other pretty big cities, there's times where you can't find something to do in the middle of the night. Being a night person, myself, it's a struggle to find a food stand, or a bar, or just anything to do once you're past the midnight hour.
This. In Amsterdam, bookstores and coffeeshops were open all night. 3 am, grab a beer, walk next door & browse books, sit in the square, read book, drink beer. Very human.
Honestly, I can appreciate that it's not another Instagram sandwich that's like 90% meat drenched in molten cheese or whatever. If that's a tasty tomato, I'm all for it.
honest question: you guys toast your mortadella??? I'm european and have never heard of that, and I've been to bologna (where mortadella was supposedly invented). I feel that would completely destroy its silky smooth texture..
American, have also never heard of toasting mortadella. Fried bologna is a thing, but bologna is usually sliced thicker (~3mm?), smaller diameter, and doesn't have inclusions.
Susanswerphone
That'll be $54.38
Dolenmorgul
The piss was a touch much tho
Atonic1959
I just want a sandwich with those tomatoes, onions, and some Italian dressing!
KabouterPimpelmees
How to tell people you're from the US without saying it out loud.
AllRepublicansArePedophiles
That is the saddest example of a sandwich. Bread looks nice and then downhill from there.
aRabidGerbil
As a professional baker, the bread was fine but way to hot to slice, you could see that he'd wrecked it as soon as it was open.
VancoD
ALL THIS FOR ONLY $35.00
Smingersdidit
Right as I found this I also found a video on YouTube about making cookies that look like mortadella.

randomwalrus
Mortadella. Is pretty good.
Scobragon
Mortadella isn't bright fucking pink!
randomwalrus
Pink (of varying shades depending on where you get it) with white spots. That is definitely mortadella.

Yeah make me a sandwich with an entire tomato the size of a softball on it

I could set the sound of the knife slicing through the bread as my ringtone.

The first few seconds of that could be a sequel to Attack of the Killer Tomatoes.

Nothing about this sandwich looks appetizing...

Same.

If it was turkey and Swiss, I'd be salivating.

It's okay to be wrong.

That doesn't look good at all.

Or 1 in one of the worlds most expensive vegetable countries (Nordics).

entirely too much tomato, and it's just untoasted mortadella and provolone with olive oil and sea salt on a ciabatta roll? Hard pass.

Yeah this is not a great example of a solid new York deli sandwich
mjperk
A agree about the tomato.
bwittekoekover9000
looks like a panuozzo

The bread was literally steaming when cut open. Why toast when its already gonna be warm and delicious?

MrDrMatt
The lack of punctuation makes the complaint confusing. Imagine a period after "untoasted."
Krakencrotch
No, they definitely meant untoasted mortadella. They were talking about it in another thread, and the bread is visibly steaming hot.
chaoticbear1

Olive oil hopefully, the principle of a sandwich is there. though the meat looks nasty, wouldnt like that.
