Yeah, that is why you have the death penalty, to stop people from murdering people, and it works so well. /s

Jury nullification is when a jury reaches a verdict contrary to the weight of evidence because of a disagreement with the law.
AGrammeIsBetterThanADamn
This wasn't jury nullification though. This was refusal to indict.
Mentioning it while in court can result in criminal charges for jury tampering.

No jury can be found that will convict a parent, they even had a parent do it in an airport, which is federal property.

Yeah except juries for federal cases still come from local areas. You serve on a jury in the eastern district of texas if that's whereu live

Personally I'm on the parents side, but the airport one was clearly premeditated with murderous intent with video evidence, that's a 1/2
I understand that, but DAs look at only one thing, will they win.
If they can prove premeditated without the defence arguing temporary insanity, then they'd have a strong argument.
And the opposite of the below is Tru as well, even if you're obviously innocent, many don't care. I know cops who say DAs are gross.

Beat implies blunt force trauma. Lightsabers slice cleanly. Noob.

Thank you. The story is rarely as simple as the headline.

You say that like revenge wouldn't also be completely justified.
gaugetx
Meh... im callin it justified. I got no problems with revenge if your %100 sure its the right person. Pedophiles need to be put down.
TroelsyTwo
No it's not. People can't be trusted to be rational. Or that the crime even occurred.
DVSBSTrD
And the justice system can?
delpharseven
Are you suggesting that because the justice system is imperfect, we should abandon it in favour of a far more flawed system?
Wadup
What the fuck is wrong with you?
Tunaccat
Because it wouldn't. It's not how our society or justice system works or should work.
RosegoldEverything
I dunno, I imagine fewer would rape if they knew they'd be beaten to death as a result.
Mavgurian
Yeah, that is why you have the death penalty, to stop people from murdering people, and it works so well. /s
Tunaccat
1. The amount of innocents punished would increase dramatically. 2. Harsher punishments don't deter crime (no one plans on being caught).
Vyrro
I imagine a torrent of haphazard mob "justice" bereft of impartiality.

AmishGangsta404
The girl was murdered in the early 90s. The guy "killed himself" in the early 2000s. Nothing in this town was online back then.
z3lfmoord
Many outlets have digitized their records
AmishGangsta404
My local newspaper doesn't even keep online records of yesterday's news. They actively try to force you to buy a subscription.

It's a damn shame that doesn't seem to be a thing where I live.Single mother killed a woman who raped her son, yet the mother was convicted.
sc1onic
Source?
z3lfmoord
Murder is different than defense
cleverbeans
Did she kill the woman while actively defending her son or did she just kill her out of revenge? Did she try to help the victim or not?
tzap
You say it's a shame we live in a world where we don't accept just killing criminals on the spot? Wow.
IllegalDuckling
Violence is treated far worse than anything in Germany.

You think you wouldn't be convicted in the States if you murdered someone for revenge?

The guy who raped my niece was convicted, they let him out on bail to put his affairs in order. He committed suicide.

bambulancedriver
What bullshit to allow time for "affairs to be put in order ". The victim didn't get that grace, neither should the perpetrator
Ixxy
While, typically the victim is still about to have their affairs order, it also gives them a chance to be visited by 'concerned citizens'.
Melanisia
Coroner ruled it a suicide.... who are we to argue.
AmishGangsta404
Well, he IS a medical professional after all.
Melanisia
Oh he was convicted... the let him out for a week on an ankle monitor to put his affairs in order before going to prison.

IKR! The fact that he only served 12 years for that is ridiculous! Good thing karma's a bitch!
tzap
If there's any time at all in which a person can make a change, 12 years would definitely be enough.

Ofc the problem is that the whole American system is mainly based on revenge rather than recuperation and reintegration to begin with..

Just beat the guy with hands and feet. He had hired a 50ish yo ranch hand a few days earlier. Hears his daughter crying and sees the guy 1/?
LtCmdrQueeg
Raping her, beats him to death. His defense in court was "some people just need killing" if I remember correctly

If he faced no charges, he needed to defense in court
dzbomber
Honestly that is so awsome and very true!!
mormacil
It isn't. He caught the guy in act, beat him unconscious then called 911 for an ambulance.

He was assaulting someone, so you take them down. Whatever works- it's him or you.
Koshunae
Sexually assaulting his daughter. Even if he went to trial, he couldve plead temp insanity.
Junktrunkjunkie
People often over look that when telling this story. He didn't just hunt him down and beat em up. He didn't just let him die either.
jameretief
Although the way the laws are written he would have been no-billed had he shot the rapist.
skelitor120
That's the story people are missing; This was an act of defense and justifiable culpability, not of mob/vigilante justice.
erbiumyttriumytterbium
That's sad. It sounds like karma, but the girl was traumatized and her defender was traumatized. Humans suck.
mormacil
Meh, sea otters rape baby seals, mice sperm forces abortions, hippos kill babies of other hippos, ducks rape, dolphins kill for fun.
notavampire
Don't forget the 1900s study of penguins that was not publically released because they were discovered to be baby rapists and necrophiles.
mormacil
1990's study that ducks fuck other dead male ducks as well. Or how domesticated cats hunted several birds to extinction.
cutebunnies
It has been argued that only humans are truly evil, because only we know that there is such a thing as being good or evil.
mormacil
Except dolphins kill other animals for fun, they're smart enough.

I don't think a point has ever missed as much as you're missing it here.
JAFIOI
I'd say he should be fined $5.00 for not cutting the guy into little chunks as well.
AmishGangsta404
Disposal fees and all that. LOL
JAFIOI
Okay. I'd gladly pay a fine/fee if the city disposed of a shitbag like like for me.
AmishGangsta404
I mean, it DOES cost money, after all. It's only right.
JAFIOI
And as an upstanding citizen, I'd pay it with a smile on my face.
delpharseven
He urgently sought help for the attacker, which is one of the key reasons he wasn't charged.
JAFIOI
Only help that attacker deserves is a live acid bath.
PartOfTheRebelAllianceAndATraitor
Jury nullification is when a jury reaches a verdict contrary to the weight of evidence because of a disagreement with the law.
AGrammeIsBetterThanADamn
This wasn't jury nullification though. This was refusal to indict.
PartOfTheRebelAllianceAndATraitor
Mentioning it while in court can result in criminal charges for jury tampering.
skylin05
And you just made everyone who didn't know about jury nullification before now potentially ineligible to have jury duty!

Yeah I count myself lucky I don´t have to live with that.

he caught the man in the act and only hit him once, it would be different if it was revenge

Agreed. The headline is misleading though. It suggests that he was not charged because he was killing an animal, not a person.

Do you have kids? You might change your mind. Kids will do that.
Flyndaran
I will never be for revenge murder, EVER! I may let emotion get me, but it would still be wrong to murder.
AnAsOfYetUnidentifiedIndividual
Emotional appeal is not a justification for murder. Luckily the case was not what the headline makes it sound like.
RagingOyster
Too bad it wasn't a revenge killing and he didn't intend to beat the man to death. Learn the facts before you condemn him.
delpharseven
To be fair, @OP doesn't provide a lot to go on.
AnAsOfYetUnidentifiedIndividual
To be fair, the headline OP provides is blatantly misleading
jesusaichchrist
Even if it were intentional, I wouldn't convict him.
raidleadergutts
Fuck you for supporting rape then. No one of sane mind would ever convict him, only human trash would.
jesusaichchrist
Flyndaran
You don't condone murdering thieves? You must be supporting theft. Are you really this stupid?
chiborino
All that guy said was that, accidental killing or not, he wouldn't say the dad is guilty. How is that supporting rape?
HEXADECIMAL
No jury can be found that will convict a parent, they even had a parent do it in an airport, which is federal property.
WebDevJewelerReptileLover
Yeah except juries for federal cases still come from local areas. You serve on a jury in the eastern district of texas if that's whereu live
dannakala
He was actually charged with 2nd degree murder but plead to manslaughter. No jail though, only 5 years probation. Look up Jody Plauche
OriginalNameDoNotSteal
Personally I'm on the parents side, but the airport one was clearly premeditated with murderous intent with video evidence, that's a 1/2
HEXADECIMAL
I understand that, but DAs look at only one thing, will they win.
OriginalNameDoNotSteal
If they can prove premeditated without the defence arguing temporary insanity, then they'd have a strong argument.
HEXADECIMAL
And the opposite of the below is Tru as well, even if you're obviously innocent, many don't care. I know cops who say DAs are gross.

It's not whether or not they have the legal high ground. Its about stats for their career. And that would be a very high profile failure

A crime, regardless of a jury's personal views. Put the guy in for mental health rehabilitation at Least, he needed counselling 2/2
trebleisin
Have you not heard of Jury Nullification?
MaladaptedMedic
Well, that's the thing about a jury. if they want, they can technically ignore the law completely and say "not guilty"
Rip42
Not technically true. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jury_nullification_in_the_United_States
OriginalNameDoNotSteal
A good lawyer would argue a mistrial by reason of unfair bias of all potential jurors. Persuading judge to move trial to another county1/2

They didn't. The grand jury decided to not press charges.

Still a fan of an investigation when these things happen. I know I would have reacted the same way tbh.

The sheriff's department did investigate and presented what they found to the grand jury.
