Anyone who shows disloyalty to the regime gets removed and replaced w/ someone who will fall in line. Nothing gets accomplished by doing so. With them being silent, there's ambiguity about how much support Trump would have if, for example, he tried to perform a coup. If all those opposed to him did him the kindness of identifying themselves, then, one purge later, he could use the military to take power. They should stay silent. The media and people are the ones who need to speak up and act.

It's literally in their oath to support the civilian leadership. No matter how much you dislike *this* president, you don't want a military that decides to ignore orders without a very good reason. This is shitty, but it's not illegal.

It's not quite that simple. Legally they have no authority to do anything but advise. They are not allowed to speak on political issues- that's WHY they can get court-martialed, demoted, and replaced. If they DID, that's what's called a coup de tat.

Speaking out isn't a coup de tat. Yes they can be fired but that isn't what a coup is.

Speaking against? In private, no. To their faces, technically also no. But a public admonition or refusal to obey the orders of them is basically a step in that direction. They aren't allowed to. And this is the essential problem- one side is obeying the rules, and one is not. But if you break the rules, does the public see a difference?
