Offering counseling and mental health services to veterans does not make you an expert on children psychology, parenting or parental and intersocial dynamics. The amount of "experts" in these comments is ridiculous. Seeing this clip as a potential "another Jeffrey Dahmer" and that the kid needs "intensive therapy" tells me you are not fit to be a counselor. Sometimes, kids just do bad shit and need to be corrected. Not everything is outright malicious.
This is not a healthy style of parenting in any world, first off putting this online is a major red flag of the parent this shows the parent is just fucked up like no tomorrow. Also having your kids destroy things like that is fucked first off we don't know the context other then the "trust me bro" context given to us by an unstable parent, but even if the kid truly unprompted abused an animal this is still not the way to solve it at all.
Must be nice to have so much money she can destroy a $500+ console instead of just being a parent and giving her son an environment to live in where he doesn't feel the urge to lash out at a cat.
Absolutely. Torturing animals is an early warning sign of a mental state that easily leads to serial killer territory in most cases. This kid definitely needs psychiatric evaluation and intervention ASAP because statistically speaking, there is a good chance down the road that without it, he shouldn't be around any living thing- animal or human.
News Flash. Kid will never forget that there are serious consequences for serious actions. Unlike DJT, who never faced a serious consequence in his life, and got away with every deed and lie he ever told.
You're not wrong about dj, but unless underlying causes of behavior are addressed, they will repeat and the only thing that will change is him getting better at hiding it. For most other things, I would agree with you. But this isn't like him purposefully smashing his mom's tv or windshield and having to destroy his property. It was a living thing that he hurt. That is a behavior pattern that has to be addressed quickly and thoroughly.
I went through something similar to this with my girlfriends little boy. Some of it was about consequences, some of it was about how does it feel when it happens to you, and some of it was about empathy, and about things you can never take back no matter how hard you want to. I guess that's rocket science to some. His mother was a real piece of work, as much as I loved her. But I get what you say.
My dad did something similar to me (for a far less egregious action). Made me smash my gameboy with a hammer because I took it to school and got in trouble 3 times. He accidentally taught me not to put too much importance into material possessions, and that things can be replaced but relationships cannot. Not the lesson he was aiming for, but the lesson I cherish most.
Former CPS worker here, given the child agreed to do this, there is a high likelihood that the parent threatened a beating if he didn't smash his PS5. The kid decided destroying his console was safer than being beaten. We saw this behavior all the time. The kid abuses animal because he is being abused. The child should be removed and parent investigated.
I get it. But this is child abuse. And it is *teaching the child that sometimes slamming something you love to the ground is correct*. And to be filming it and sharing it online? Also fucked up. CPS needs to pay this family a visit, and maybe this video triggers that process.
This doesn't help. It hurts, and it's bad parenting. And wasting a playstation isn't the problem.
Other than a clearly unstable parent who shouldn't be a parent claiming he did it what is your proof he did? Not to mention IF he did and it just remains a big IF maybe look towards the parents that raised a kid to abuse animals, this is a moment you should teach them right from wrong not give them some shit punishment and put it on the internet to farm likes. This parent is fucked and should not be allowed to have ether animals or kids.
"Torture". Dude... it could also be that the cat got aggressive with him and he got scared and slammed it on the ground. Could be a million other things. The fact that so many of you so easily jump to conclusions such as "torture" indicates you spend too much time on ShitTok and other media. Touch some grass.
The first step would be figuring out what happened to cause him to want to hurt a cat. Until you know that punishment is unlikely to help much, and this kind of punishment could also teach him that destroying stuff is an appropriate punishment. It could easily backfire.
Until therapy, keep the kid as far as away from pets as possible.
Thos, might be some disorder, some serial killers had that even without abusive parents. Somwtimes things go wrong and menthal disabilities are just much harder to recognize.
Therapy, and an external enforcement, like the parent taking away the PS5. It should also be reversible if the kid does something good, not a permanent destruction.
Making the kid destroy it himself teaches that the child is inherently negative, living in opposition to the positive of society. It doesn’t teach that that can change.
Now, we’re also equating material goods with living creatures, which is a whole ‘nother can of worms…
Is that kid mentally competent enough to correlate why she's making him do this? How much time has passed between him torturing her cat and this video? Hopefully this doesn't backfire and he does something worse now because he clearly already has issues. Did she take the cat to a vet? I'm sure there are no readily available answers to my questions but everything about this seems messed up. I'm also not a fan of adults swearing directly at or around kids no matter how mad they are.
story is complex, to put it shortly the child tortured the little cat until it couldnt eat or walk (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antisocial_personality_disorder#Treatment) but at elast the cat was healed and while he has a limp (/585oBE1.jpeg" class="comment__media" loading="lazy"/>) it's not in life danger anymore.. Now the problem is if the child will receive adequate healtcare (since this is usa I fear not)
This is the saddest thing I’ve seen on Imgur. As a parent myself, i can tell you this is not productive or positive. This kid will learn eye-for-and-eye and nothing more. And yes he needs therapy ASAP. His mom needs to understand he has a mental issue that needs attention, full stop
So much projection in these comments, it's unreal. This is good punishment, it will stick for years to come. Nobody got hurt and the lesson was very clear. That you guys project so much bullshit such as "abusive mother", "psychopath kid" and "mental issue" shows you folks have far more social issues than the people shown in this clip. Get real.
Shitty parents like her that get satisfaction from tormenting a child and punishing them for all to see isn't a good thing to see or find valuable lessons in. Maybe she abused him and he lashed out against his abuser? You get real.
Because the internet never goes away, he'll always have this video on the internet no matter how good he is, no matter how much he improved, and why post it anyway? For likes?
This will follow him around like a scarlet letter in this society. Should see the rot and hell that is inside “animal rescues” guaranteed it’s circling them currently with comments that are very unhinged and even sexist/racist towards him. Now imagine he gets therapy, heals himself, atones and all of that. He won’t escape this. Court of public opinion has made its mind up (look at the comments all over) he’s cooked from job interviews and beyond with how all these nutters work
But these times we live in? 5-10 years go by, kid gets therapy and everything. Atones for his behavior then some social media scum digs it up, throws it out there and stalks him. Old wounds open, influencer trash gets their clicks and the racism/sexism/hate speech abuse cycle starts all over again. That’s the problem here
Guys, we have no idea the context to say this kid is a sociopath who was hurting an animal unprompted. He could have been modeling abusive behavior done towards him. As a Pediatrician, all I can say for certain from this video is mom is modeling horrible discipline behaviors, and that his actions are most likely reflective of parenting or environment, not innate cruelty. Either way, therapy for all is the treatment, not more violence, filmed.
Notice her “this mf gets everything” comment. Way to tip her hand about the negativity around the house and admitting to spoiling him just in one sentence alone. A full investigation needs to be done what goes on when the doors close and it isn’t pretty. Kids aren’t born out of the gate to harm others much as society likes to spew for its own failures when a mirror is held up to it. Deeper rot internally at play here. This is the other side of the “positive vibes only” rhetoric out there>
I was hoping someone would say this. Yes throwing a cat down violently is bad and needs addressed. However the callousness and detachment his mom is demonstrating and the style of punishment rubs me very wrong. Forcing your child to destroy something they care about isn't a healthy punishment. Even if that thing is an inanimate object and they are being punish for hurting a living thing.
I was thinking this too. It’s possible the kid is being either abused or bullied and he’s taking it out in the kitten. Not saying it’s right, but the kid needs real professional help to try and find out whats going on that’s causing this.
I think we're seeing evidence of his living conditions right here. And she has no idea that this doesn't help. This can't be the first time, and she probably went through terrible things as a child.
Ya shit that mom did no wrong, cuz as a owner of multiple beloved pets, I can honestly say, even if it was my own kid, the rage that I would feel at the cruelty someone did to a pet(even not one I own tbh) I am unsure if I could stop myself from smashing the PERSON who did this to the concrete. She made him do it to his own (easily replaceable, inanimate, unfeeling) item. Mom did good. She is a FAR better person than I think I would be in the same situation. I hope the kid learns. Glad Cat is ok
Yea me too, kids will be kids, but there is a point that is no longer a valid defense. But the kid did look truly upset at his ps5 being busted up (and him doing it magnifies this so..) - Either way kid does need help and.. due to that am pretty sure this family does too. Do gotta say though upon further reflection, she did maybe go at it wrong in the sense the ps5 is not a living thing at all, and the cat was, so was a bad example to use as a tit for tat treatment. Therapy does seem a big need.
The problem is that this isn't going to teach him a lesson or make him a better person. If she really thinks it will then she's probably part of the reason he's the way he is. Don't get me wrong, he needs consequences but this just won't address the route of the problem. By all means take the gaming system away but hopefully there was more guidance for him after this so he doesn't become more angry as he grows up.
Given the repetitive nature of slamming the cat indicates enjoying his action. So it would be closer to psychopath that Sociopath where he wouldn’t understand the concept of his wrongdoing
nah, it's better to watch his spirit break. you know what you did you little shit. it may be whoop that ass but we all know mom brought that PS5 into the house and she can damn well take it out.
Fuck this parent. Abusing a mentally handicapped child, Destroying electronics and tossing to create waste instead of donating, Filming the incident like a fucktard and causing way more problems.
It seems really weird to say mentally handicapped and then fucktard, a portmanteau of retard. Why say mentally handicapped at all if youre fine using the slur?
Because Retard is a slur in the context of calling a mentally handicapped person as an insult. "Retard" itself is not a slur and is the correct term Doctors used. "Fucktard" in comparison is actually exempt from this in that the "Tard" part means "someone who is being intentionally stupid" "this Fucking bastard is being intentionally stupid" = Fucktard
I also disagree with the punishment. Tell them you *wanted* them to do it. But that would be wasteful and negative. Tell them instead to bring it to a donation shop.
No, we actually know a lot thanks to decades of psychological science. Punishment does not work to correct behavior. It actually makes it worse and just traumatizes children.
Because? Teaching him that his feelings are irrelevant is good? Teaching him to dissociate and enact rage on behalf of his mom is good? Teaching them that destroying property is a valid response? That destroying property is akin to hurting a live being? I dunno what to tell you, but we DO know the answers to all of those.
Ok, I must have misunderstood "it may have worked a hell of a lot better than forcing him to give it away". Punishment will *never* fix what "could be wrong with him if he's abusing animals". Full stop. But violence like this is going to make it a hell of a lot worse. Which leads me to think the parenting actually explains how the kid got his problems.
Um, maybe? If it takes a world to see and condemn him together to prevent a serial killer, then yes. If the kid already got"better" and wouldn't torture an animal again, I think still yes. Curious, where the no?
If he's a psychopath this only teaches him he can't afford to be caught. If he has anger problems this teaches him he has to hold it in.
Regardless of the root problem, he's also learning that his own mother will punish and publicly humiliate him on the internet instead of helping and protecting him.
Ew. I hope her cat is ok, I hope her son is ok, and I hope she falls down a flight of stairs
except it won't. you'll get a lot of mothers and animal lovers who will agree yes, but then you'll get an equal amount of fucking idiots now mass reporting, and likely doxxing her for "child abuse" i think you severely underestimate how many shitheads in this world love causing drama and problems, so they can get their rocks off.
you severely underestimate the internet and how much toxic and hate it spreads. for every single good post someone makes, like let's say feeding kittens and making sure they're safe, you're going to get a number of assholes who will shit on the OP for "overpopulation of animals" and "not spaying their pets" you call them out? "WELL IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, IGNORE MY POSTS LOLLLLL!"
The thing is, he’s destroying a “thing” something that is obviously precious to him, because of his emotion. I think she’s trying to convey that to him, but this maybe should be done in a therapist office not online.
Destroying "a thing" in retribution for harm done to living beings just reinforces the thinking that living beings are comparable to objects. Also, it doesn't tell the kid you were hurt. Continuing it as a humiliation ritual beyond the mental breaking point is just the mom having the kid act out HER anger issues. Note how she's really riling and prodding. Real healthy way to teach them to acknowledge your emotion and above all IGNORE their own.
and that's exactly where part of the problem is. i wouldn't doubt this bitch is trying to get fame, clicks, and likes, not teach a lesson. normal people don't set up an elaborate video to teach a lesson, they just fucking do it off camera. she's definitely out for reactions
If the child was torturing the cat....that is an indication of a severe mental disorder which punishment WILL NOT help. Kid needs intervention URGENTLY...and it is also a reflection on the MOTHER...like WTF did YOU do to have a kid who tortures cats? That don;t happen without some serious f'd up shit happening in the kids life. Maybe get some internet points and attention by torturing your kid...instead of helping him. He needs help.
Specifically, THIS kind of punishment. They learn to dissociate even more from their feelings, and also associate grief with guilt. This is just counterproductive. At best.
agreed. child needs professional help, and perhaps intervention by child protective services. a child who kills animals (multiple times) is at risk of serious harm to adults when they grow up.
Posting this online for engagement demonstrates something is deeply wrong with her and this is not making it better for either of them. This is how severe social problems transfer between generations, she's not escaping any cycles here. I can't even identify and name the strong feelings I'm having about this.
Punishment doesnt stop psychotic behavior. He needs a mental health evaluation. He wouldnt even be able to connect the punishment to the out of whack impulse to harm the cat, so you'd just be torturing someone who doesnt understand what is going on, for your own sense of power/revenge.
He's still a kid, and he now associates throwing things at the ground is something that is bad. So no, I hard disagree with you and the armchair psychologists on Imgur.
Hey, when your kids get in thrown in jail because you never taught them how to properly function in society, please do me one thing. Let them know it's because you're a half measure of a human being and weren't strong enough to teach them basic decency. ❤️
Better than your children who you would never teach lessons to being assholes like you. It's actually kind of pathetic. Weak cunt and his cunts, Karens in the making. We could make a TV show out of it.
While poor parenting exasperates mental illness, it's not a requirement. A minority of serial killers had happy home lives growing up, and still ended up f*cked in the head. The attempt at public shaming here is evidence of poor parenting, but I caution against using a kid's psychosis as proof of poor parenting absent other evidence.
It usually requires a trigger, and even if not, seeing the early stages, such a charming animals, should lead to intervention, and thereby, hopefully prevention of some of the more harmful developments and outcomes.
Perfect time for child protective services to be involved, if the public welfare services were not getting gutted left and right by this malignant, evil and incompetent administration
Life and twenty years of parenting make me deeply suspicious of this kind of public shaming parenting. Yeah it's possible she had a rational lesson to teach about an analogous event in her parenting life, but... It's possible yes. It's probable...
Yes it's a l son this kid won't forget. But what's the actual lesson he learns...
Emotional and psychological violence are still violence and she is publicly inflicting both on her kid while the kid is dissociating. She is repeatedly mocking him and does jack shit to solve the issues of her kid.
I'd say it is a sign of probably worse abuse, but hey that's just me. If you let the kid forcibly repeat the ritual after the breaking point, you're just instilling hate and reinforcing anger as a solution.
ODD can be addressed- the behavior can be channeled into less destructive forms...there can be cognitive approaches that lessen the likelyhood of more dangerous patterns
mobial
Where did the anger issues come from?
apLundell
With parenting like this, It sure is a mystery why the kid has problems!

As a Pediatrician, all I can say for certain from this video is mom is modeling horrible discipline behaviors, and that his actions are most likely reflective of parenting or environment, not innate cruelty. Either way, therapy for all is the treatment, not more violence, filmed.
swofromtherock
And with this video as evidence, he is absolutely modeling inappropriate behavior that he sees in the home. This is awful, terrible, cruel.
RubbleTrouser
Agreed .
mohavewolfpup
Notice her “this mf gets everything” comment. Way to tip her hand about the negativity around the house and admitting to spoiling him just in one sentence alone. A full investigation needs to be done what goes on when the doors close and it isn’t pretty. Kids aren’t born out of the gate to harm others much as society likes to spew for its own failures when a mirror is held up to it. Deeper rot internally at play here. This is the other side of the “positive vibes only” rhetoric out there>
mohavewolfpup
Which is just as toxic as this. Even got the name toxic positivity for a reason
kahlas
I was hoping someone would say this. Yes throwing a cat down violently is bad and needs addressed. However the callousness and detachment his mom is demonstrating and the style of punishment rubs me very wrong. Forcing your child to destroy something they care about isn't a healthy punishment. Even if that thing is an inanimate object and they are being punish for hurting a living thing.
datphone777365
Ehhh, sometimes empathy needs to be bruteforced into folks. That said there are def systemic issues at home.
EmailFail
That was my thought. Seems like it just inflicts trauma for absolutely no gain.
shinagami091
I was thinking this too. It’s possible the kid is being either abused or bullied and he’s taking it out in the kitten. Not saying it’s right, but the kid needs real professional help to try and find out whats going on that’s causing this.
nik282000
Kid need to go into institutional care, parents need to be investigated for raising a child who tortures animals.
LuminoZero
Sometimes it's not their fault. There are numerous mental disabilities that have almost nothing to do with your living conditions.
I'm not prepared to condemn the parents for this, though the child does need serious, professional help.
nik282000
If the kid was born with Marvel Villain Syndrome it doesn't matter. The parents failed to do their job.
LuminoZero
Dude, it's fucking disgusting to minimize real mental illness and the lifetime struggles that come with it to a cartoon villain.
Grow up.
nclu
I think we're seeing evidence of his living conditions right here. And she has no idea that this doesn't help. This can't be the first time, and she probably went through terrible things as a child.
devasto
Is the cat ok?

TL;DR - No. Don't look any further into it for your own sake.

perlninja
No. Kid got off lightly as far as I'm concerned.
rezpawner
Yeah, that's extra late term abortion type shit. Kill that little shit before he kills someone else.
perlninja
Wouldn't go that far but...
kenistod
Kid was torturing the 4 month kitten until it couldn't walk or eat
TheWhiteBarry
Let's slam this kid into the pavement instead.
AtmaDarkwolf
Ya shit that mom did no wrong, cuz as a owner of multiple beloved pets, I can honestly say, even if it was my own kid, the rage that I would feel at the cruelty someone did to a pet(even not one I own tbh) I am unsure if I could stop myself from smashing the PERSON who did this to the concrete. She made him do it to his own (easily replaceable, inanimate, unfeeling) item. Mom did good. She is a FAR better person than I think I would be in the same situation. I hope the kid learns. Glad Cat is ok
figuringeights
I have my doubts that she did no wrong. But breaking the ps5 was a good lesson. I hope they all recover as a family
AtmaDarkwolf
Yea me too, kids will be kids, but there is a point that is no longer a valid defense. But the kid did look truly upset at his ps5 being busted up (and him doing it magnifies this so..) - Either way kid does need help and.. due to that am pretty sure this family does too. Do gotta say though upon further reflection, she did maybe go at it wrong in the sense the ps5 is not a living thing at all, and the cat was, so was a bad example to use as a tit for tat treatment. Therapy does seem a big need.
hiyesthisissatan
The problem is that this isn't going to teach him a lesson or make him a better person. If she really thinks it will then she's probably part of the reason he's the way he is. Don't get me wrong, he needs consequences but this just won't address the route of the problem. By all means take the gaming system away but hopefully there was more guidance for him after this so he doesn't become more angry as he grows up.
kenistod
Kitten has been to the vet. Has a slight limp, but is doing good now
SuperNintendoEntertainmentSystem
omfg thank you for this update. I really, really needed to hear that.
NinjaCongo
That is literally the first sign of a budding serial killer. Child needs to see a professional.
TheWhiteBarry
Let's just slam him into the pavement instead.
NinjaCongo
Yes, mentally ill children should be assaulted! Please don't have kids bro.
TheWhiteBarry
Oh fuck off. Kitten torture defender over here. You can go next 👋
HelloImMarshall
Yeah. He's likely going to use this as an excuse to do more in the future and a life lesson to not get caught again
unkemptthought
Sociopath, not all of them become serial killers, they also do very well as CEOs.
Goldensands
Serial killers being the lesser evil.
GrandChampion
Given the repetitive nature of slamming the cat indicates enjoying his action. So it would be closer to psychopath that Sociopath where he wouldn’t understand the concept of his wrongdoing
GrandChampion
Psychopathy than *
Stupid autocorrect

ah yes, CEOs, the social murderers

"The extra steps protect me from legal liability!"

Sounds the making him throw down his ps5 isn't quite enough imo
BrickSprickly
Are you suggesting she throw down with him?
superdinglebudgie
nah, it's better to watch his spirit break. you know what you did you little shit. it may be whoop that ass but we all know mom brought that PS5 into the house and she can damn well take it out.
TheShoggothOfMosquitoCreek
Honestly I'd adopt him away to some nice family somewhere in another country and pray they don't have any pets.
TacoPoweredHelicopter
Maybe... Try and get the kid into therapy.
You would be a shit parent.
BrickSprickly
Nobody wants Americans lol
AvsFreak
Torturing animals is sociopath stuff, not generally bad parenting. An actual mental disorder.
chicharrone
I think it's great as long as he's not allowed to have a new one until he's old enough to buy his own
MoopsyLD
Fuck this parent. Abusing a mentally handicapped child, Destroying electronics and tossing to create waste instead of donating, Filming the incident like a fucktard and causing way more problems.
SirSage
It seems really weird to say mentally handicapped and then fucktard, a portmanteau of retard. Why say mentally handicapped at all if youre fine using the slur?
MoopsyLD
Because Retard is a slur in the context of calling a mentally handicapped person as an insult. "Retard" itself is not a slur and is the correct term Doctors used. "Fucktard" in comparison is actually exempt from this in that the "Tard" part means "someone who is being intentionally stupid" "this Fucking bastard is being intentionally stupid" = Fucktard
LayingDaPipe
i agree with the punishment but not the recording and putting it out for the world to see
DenAzhir
Mother should have blurred that kid's face.
LayingDaPipe
agreed
IncognitoEnthusiast
No, that is abuse plain and simple. This was revenge not punishment.
LayingDaPipe
i can see that

TheDoctorCrankenstein
Fix yourself if you think mentally abusing a child for your sick sense of power/revenge is helping this kid learn to be a better person.
Punishment is counterproductive and does not work. Decades of psychological science proves this. Quit being ignorant.
gronzilla
I also disagree with the punishment. Tell them you *wanted* them to do it. But that would be wasteful and negative. Tell them instead to bring it to a donation shop.
thickythickydumdum
Filming was unnecessary...but no doubt she created a very core memory consequence that is directly related to the thing he did wrong.
No idea how effective it will be...but for all we know it may have worked a hell of a lot better than forcing him to give it away
MoopsyLD
no hes going to grow up hating and likely will kill her
TheDoctorCrankenstein
No, we actually know a lot thanks to decades of psychological science. Punishment does not work to correct behavior. It actually makes it worse and just traumatizes children.
gronzilla
Because? Teaching him that his feelings are irrelevant is good? Teaching him to dissociate and enact rage on behalf of his mom is good? Teaching them that destroying property is a valid response? That destroying property is akin to hurting a live being? I dunno what to tell you, but we DO know the answers to all of those.
thickythickydumdum
I dont think anyone watching this agrees it was handled the right way so calm your righteous rage there, little buddy.
I can only assume shes working with whats shes got, which is to say not enough..its not what i wouldve done.
But I can confidently say simply taking away his ps5 wasnt going to fix what could be wrong with him if hes abusing animals.
gronzilla
Ok, I must have misunderstood "it may have worked a hell of a lot better than forcing him to give it away". Punishment will *never* fix what "could be wrong with him if he's abusing animals". Full stop. But violence like this is going to make it a hell of a lot worse. Which leads me to think the parenting actually explains how the kid got his problems.
thedill2000
Um, maybe? If it takes a world to see and condemn him together to prevent a serial killer, then yes. If the kid already got"better" and wouldn't torture an animal again, I think still yes. Curious, where the no?
cambam3000
If he's a psychopath this only teaches him he can't afford to be caught. If he has anger problems this teaches him he has to hold it in.
Regardless of the root problem, he's also learning that his own mother will punish and publicly humiliate him on the internet instead of helping and protecting him.
Ew. I hope her cat is ok, I hope her son is ok, and I hope she falls down a flight of stairs
LayingDaPipe
that is a kid. its never ok to embarrass and shame a kid for the whole world to see.
i18736524742069
At least there’s one person with sense around here
Whitebeardthepirate
except it won't. you'll get a lot of mothers and animal lovers who will agree yes, but then you'll get an equal amount of fucking idiots now mass reporting, and likely doxxing her for "child abuse" i think you severely underestimate how many shitheads in this world love causing drama and problems, so they can get their rocks off.
thedill2000
Ah. I did not think that angle. Worse doing more worse. No argument
Whitebeardthepirate
you severely underestimate the internet and how much toxic and hate it spreads. for every single good post someone makes, like let's say feeding kittens and making sure they're safe, you're going to get a number of assholes who will shit on the OP for "overpopulation of animals" and "not spaying their pets" you call them out? "WELL IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, IGNORE MY POSTS LOLLLLL!"
thedill2000
I gotta ask, you ok my dude? That seemed overly angry
vanishinggirl
The thing is, he’s destroying a “thing” something that is obviously precious to him, because of his emotion. I think she’s trying to convey that to him, but this maybe should be done in a therapist office not online.
gronzilla
Destroying "a thing" in retribution for harm done to living beings just reinforces the thinking that living beings are comparable to objects. Also, it doesn't tell the kid you were hurt. Continuing it as a humiliation ritual beyond the mental breaking point is just the mom having the kid act out HER anger issues. Note how she's really riling and prodding. Real healthy way to teach them to acknowledge your emotion and above all IGNORE their own.
Whitebeardthepirate
and that's exactly where part of the problem is. i wouldn't doubt this bitch is trying to get fame, clicks, and likes, not teach a lesson. normal people don't set up an elaborate video to teach a lesson, they just fucking do it off camera. she's definitely out for reactions
nowinsituation
If the child was torturing the cat....that is an indication of a severe mental disorder which punishment WILL NOT help. Kid needs intervention URGENTLY...and it is also a reflection on the MOTHER...like WTF did YOU do to have a kid who tortures cats? That don;t happen without some serious f'd up shit happening in the kids life. Maybe get some internet points and attention by torturing your kid...instead of helping him. He needs help.
gronzilla
Specifically, THIS kind of punishment. They learn to dissociate even more from their feelings, and also associate grief with guilt. This is just counterproductive. At best.
showsovermoveon
agreed. child needs professional help, and perhaps intervention by child protective services. a child who kills animals (multiple times) is at risk of serious harm to adults when they grow up.
Bubbells
Honestly it sounds like both the kid and parent are bad people
nclu
Posting this online for engagement demonstrates something is deeply wrong with her and this is not making it better for either of them. This is how severe social problems transfer between generations, she's not escaping any cycles here. I can't even identify and name the strong feelings I'm having about this.
Tuksuky
Your Freud is showing
awkungen42
No. That's bullshit. And he needs to be punished for torturing a cat. Letting him off with no punishment will ensure the behavior continues.
nowinsituation
He needs to learn and see why what he did was wrong. Punishing him likely will not do that. He will just make sure not to get caught next time.
PastureofMuppets
Punishment doesnt stop psychotic behavior. He needs a mental health evaluation. He wouldnt even be able to connect the punishment to the out of whack impulse to harm the cat, so you'd just be torturing someone who doesnt understand what is going on, for your own sense of power/revenge.
awkungen42
He's still a kid, and he now associates throwing things at the ground is something that is bad. So no, I hard disagree with you and the armchair psychologists on Imgur.
Regis500
Don't have children please.
awkungen42
Hey, when your kids get in thrown in jail because you never taught them how to properly function in society, please do me one thing. Let them know it's because you're a half measure of a human being and weren't strong enough to teach them basic decency. ❤️
awkungen42
Better than your children who you would never teach lessons to being assholes like you. It's actually kind of pathetic. Weak cunt and his cunts, Karens in the making. We could make a TV show out of it.
ulfgarBentbeak
While poor parenting exasperates mental illness, it's not a requirement. A minority of serial killers had happy home lives growing up, and still ended up f*cked in the head. The attempt at public shaming here is evidence of poor parenting, but I caution against using a kid's psychosis as proof of poor parenting absent other evidence.
leviaton
Now there is also emerging evidence lead poisoning leads to serial killers and shit like this Did Lead Poisoning Create a Generation of Serial Killers? | The New Yorker https://www.newyorker.com/books/under-review/did-lead-poisoning-create-a-generation-of-serial-killers
nowinsituation
It usually requires a trigger, and even if not, seeing the early stages, such a charming animals, should lead to intervention, and thereby, hopefully prevention of some of the more harmful developments and outcomes.
InkyBlinkyPinkyAndClyde
I think the word you're looking for is "exascerbates".
HelpfulCorn
*sigh* exacerbates
ulfgarBentbeak
I was never great at spelling, and autocorrect has failed me here.
Exyr
Or she is a shit parent and she treats him the way he treated the cat and thats why he was doing it. Either way that kid is fucked and needs help.
MySushi
Perfect time for child protective services to be involved, if the public welfare services were not getting gutted left and right by this malignant, evil and incompetent administration
Illinifan88
Yea. If this is how she is punishing him, then I'm sure she does plenty of other fucked up things that are screwing him up.
Kid has anger issues? Make him break stuff! Yea that's totally not going to cause even more issues.
haggerton
"She treats him the way he treated the cat" where did you pull this out of, your ass?
I don't see her slamming the kid on the ground.
CheeseB0t
"it's not in the video so it's impossible"
CyberneticWhelk
Life and twenty years of parenting make me deeply suspicious of this kind of public shaming parenting. Yeah it's possible she had a rational lesson to teach about an analogous event in her parenting life, but... It's possible yes. It's probable...
Yes it's a l son this kid won't forget. But what's the actual lesson he learns...
gronzilla
She's posting this for internet clout
haggerton
Which is totally the same as slamming the kid on the ground, gotcha.
LaronX
Emotional and psychological violence are still violence and she is publicly inflicting both on her kid while the kid is dissociating. She is repeatedly mocking him and does jack shit to solve the issues of her kid.
gronzilla
I'd say it is a sign of probably worse abuse, but hey that's just me. If you let the kid forcibly repeat the ritual after the breaking point, you're just instilling hate and reinforcing anger as a solution.
nemocares
Sadly what's wrong with the kid is likely about as permanent as autism or ADHD. It even has its own letter combination: ASPD. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antisocial_personality_disorder#Treatment
JerBearington
If you’re an adult, yeah, otherwise it’s labeled Oppositional Defiant Disorder
nemocares
Noted, I wasn't taught about this in English so I'm not surprised there's a few bits like that I'm not aware of.
JerBearington
It doesn’t help that the DSM is always changing!
nemocares
Yeah, that too. I should probably be happy that the stuff I was told back in 15-16 isn't seen as completely obsolete by now.
nowinsituation
ODD can be addressed- the behavior can be channeled into less destructive forms...there can be cognitive approaches that lessen the likelyhood of more dangerous patterns
kaoticgirl
My kid had ODD, didn't make her hurt animals.
