I highly recommend you watch it, because it is an amazing editing job and is so much better with the audio.

Edit: He also made an edit of the first four films, re-telling the story from Obi-Wan's perspective.
Check it out!

I've noticed that a lot of shows on Hulu and Netflix uses alternative theme music on shows. Like Married With Children. Ruins it a little.

Greeneyeddevil
McGregor and adding so much to Kenobi's personal journey is the greatest/only decent thing to come out of the prequels
RoyalCanuckistan
How? What? Personal journey? Oh, right, all the stuff that happened off screen. Good job, George! (rolls eyes)
Greeneyeddevil
Yeah, actually. Perhaps I should say 'what we can assume about Kenobis persona journey...'
MrtheOffender
If i found a Genie i'd wish for three more movies starring Ewan McGregor as Obi Wan,
willowhoot
Dude, I used to hate on the prequels but it hit me recently just how fudging awesome Maul, pod race, music, Qui-Gon vs council, droids are.
Greeneyeddevil
It got overplayed in a few places but Duel of the Fates is one of the better pieces of cinema music in a few decades
willowhoot
Agreed. The choreography most certainly changed dueling in cinemas forever as well.
Greeneyeddevil
I think all fighting in cinema. Everything is so much more flowing now, after the 90's 'MAN PUNCH' style

If Anakin played Halo, he would've known not to jump in the middle of a fight. Easy target

Put yourself in Obi-Wan's position; This right here is fucking character development. Star Wars is an epic space opera. Nuff said.

the story of the prequals were solid and great - it was just bogged down by cheese and cgi. Also, GEORGE NEVER DIRECT A FUCKING FILM AGAIN
UncomfortableTruths
He can direct fine, as long as he has input from good people who challenge his bad creative decisions.
percivaldanvers
Yeah I think the prequels were a good story terribly executed, episode 7 was a really dull story well executed...
percivaldanvers
And I guess the originals are an okay story done pretty damn well
TiniestFox
I get a lot of hate for this: I'm not a huge fan of Hayden's acting, but I didnt think it was too bad. Anakin is SUPPOSED to be young/whiny
Falanxzealot
And emotionally stunted
paintingagency
He's an average actor who was given a fairly bad set of scripts. So the result was... not great.
MrtheOffender
His acting was great when he didn't have to Speak, more proof that the writing was meh
paintingagency
... good enough to get me through the Phantom Edit, I'll concede.
PaprikaSix
The problem isn't really with Christensen, it's that the characterisation is just garbage. Can't work with "I hate sand etc"
TiniestFox
Agreed. As a Star Wars junkie, I also always wish that his motivation was more clearly shown as "I think the Jedi are wrong and corrupt." /2
TiniestFox
Because it kind of came across as "You're angsty, so just join the dark side and kill these children." "Mm, yeah okay I guess."
BossJohns
I really enjoyed the prequels, as much as the originals
RoyalCanuckistan
Not to mention the fact that Anakin has little to no real redeeming qualities in AOTC or ROTS.

BojanglesTheFlyingCar
The only way to watch the movies is the machete order.
TastyTastyScience
I like the abridged machete order: 4, 5, a fan edit that merges 2 and 3 into a single movie with boring stuff cut out, then 6.
ParappaTheVelociraptor
I don't understand the appeal behind machete order. It's too jarring to jump from PT to OT. Best order is 456456456, repeat forever.
Phischstaebchen

PaprikaSix
Machete order makes no sense and jumps around too much trying to be clever. Just watch in order of release, skip 1 and 2 if you like
sigmaecho
Machete order includes Eps II, the worst one. I say never watch 1 or 2.
J0hnniefist
Good lord. That was well done. I got a little choked up...i never really thought about how fresh that is in Obi-wan's memory.
cornsays
This post wasn't a comedy? Yikes.
catsinbedeatingtacos
You're not alone.

Why? Anakin and Obi-Wan constantly complained about how much they disliked and didn't trust each other for ALL of AOTC. Friends? Ha!
ThatgifwithaCat
UncomfortableTruths
akom
The images were thought provoking.. but the video is more powerful. I teared up, not gonna lie.
RoyalCanuckistan
Why? Anakin was a creepy, self-absorbed, murderous psychopath long before he officially became Vader. Basically got what was coming to him
MrtheOffender
Yes, But (and what should've been the focus of the prequels) he was like a Son to Obi Wan, when Anakin fell to the dark side he destroyed >
MrtheOffender
> the Jedi, but Obi Wan felt like it was his responsibility, like he should've seen it coming, it's like a Brother who's using drugs, you >
MrtheOffender
> keep ignoring the darkness until eventually you can't anymore, and pushing them away for their own good feels like cutting out your heart
barnwolf

I got a little toked up.
shadowmech89
The way Sir Alec told the story, it is as if he knew what happened in Episode 3. As if he was the same actor portraying young Obi Wan.
RoyalCanuckistan
Well, except for that claim Anakin was ever a good friend. But sure, whatever.
chillerluvcats
He was great at this part. To bad he thought star wars and scifi was a sham

The prequels would have been amazing with a solid writer and director. The story isn't bad. It just wasn't told right.
AangTheLastAirbender
MrtheOffender
Right, the put the Focus on Anakin and Padme, when it should've been on Obi Wan and Anakin, if we don't see them as Brothers and friends >
MrtheOffender
> then Anakin's fall doesn't have the emotional weight it could've
Jepalaudsadsin
How exactly was the story not told right?
itsakidsbooksantiago
The focus on romance (badly written) and downplaying the stubbornness of the Jedi for staters. Also too much distracting CGI.
Lambdafish1
The romance plot is essential because it ends with the birth of Luke and leia, it was however, badly written, clingy, and creepy at times
itsakidsbooksantiago
Essential, absolutely. But it was poorly done and overly focused on. And since Han and Leia was done perfectly, it's baffling.
Thesinlesssinner
Watch the animated Clone Wars series. I'm serious, it's as if the prequels were done properly.
FroggyBoyyy
Revenge of the sith is a real and good starwars movie and no one will change my mind
UncomfortableTruths
Nah, they needed a better overall creative team on the script. In the prequels Lucas wrote everything himself, which is why he failed.
Horseymcfaceyface
I liked the third one and count it but one and two no they don't exist
Druidichawk19
Well Darth Maul's fight exists.
Horseymcfaceyface
Eh they were okay
lizardbones
The way I see it, the prequels had lots of good decisions in them, but just as many bad ones
HyperCreations
I laughed way too hard at this
lizardbones
1: what defines "laughing too hard" 2: what's so funny as to merits a laugh?
itsakidsbooksantiago
I admit that I kind of live for Yoda fighting Dooku. That shit was legit.
Whydontyougofuckyourself
So many people hate on that scene "he was supposed to be the greatest fighter and all he does is jump around" yeah! Because he's 2 feet tall
Whydontyougofuckyourself
He has no reach compared to his opponent. So he jumps around to utilize speed and disorient
UngratefulNoob

Rainblowjob
he's making a joking reference. see: anakin's opinion of sand

Luminesa
From Obi-Wan's side, it was phenomenally done. (I also really like Iwan McGregor). It was Anakin's side that fell flat and ruined it all.
haveyouheardabouttheseinternetmemes
Had my first job at an F.Y.E. around when Episode 1 came out. My manager had a son, named it Anakin... poor kid. Wonder how much he hates it
itsakidsbooksantiago
Pretty great. He just needs the right script/director. I kind of hope for him to force ghost bitchslap Kylo at some point TBH.

thats why i hope soooooooo much that the solo obi-wan movies disney wants to do, that they bring back mcGregor (who has said he would)
itsakidsbooksantiago
I'm sure that Hayden isn't a terrible actor, because he's been good at other stuff. Plus the part with the younglings and final fight were
YourWaifuIsTrash
It was the mushy romance that he couldn't do well, and a lot of that is on Lucas for not knowing how to write romance
BillyMaysHereWithOxiClean
Hayden did anger really well. It was the whiny baby moments that ruined it.
itsakidsbooksantiago
It's funny because those moments didn't ruin it with Luke. We didn't want Vader to be whiny though.
channelranger
Well honestly no actor could have saved those terrible lines and direction. Wasn't really his fault.
Bbbrrr000ccckkk1
I kinda would really want to see a fight between 1 Jedi Knight and 30 toddlers with lightsabers. It would be worth seeing 30 children die.
tinkerbug
Natalie Portman is fantastic too, but their love story was just so cringily written - 'you're breaking me heart Ani!'
HalloIamherenow
Their relationship was rushed in the second movie and was a goddamn travesty. Anakin was basically a creeper the whole time, and clearly...
tinkerbug

Sauroctonus
You're tearing me apart, Annie! Oh, hai Obi Wan.
HalloIamherenow
I always felt that if you wanted to see good stories about Anakin, "Star Wars The Clone Wars" does it justice pretty well, they had a...
HalloIamherenow
... good handle at showing his reckless yet compassionate nature, and how his compassion could be used against him to slowly turn him to...
J0hnniefist
I can see that. I love the prequels, but i wish for the same things most others want: no midichlorians, darth maul to have a bigger role etc
Nephus
Is it too soon to redo these?
Thesinlesssinner
They bring Maul back in the animated Clone Wars series. It's bitchin as hell.
teh0khardic
I think that's why people started doing the "Machete Order", losing Darth Maul is an acceptable trade off to losing the rest of the Ep I
Jamesstin
Whats the issue with midichlorians?
MyWeeLadGimli
It makes the Force feel less mysterious and ethereal.
itsakidsbooksantiago
I really don't hate them either. Especially II & III. Feel like it became cool to hate them, you know?
J0hnniefist
100% agreed. I think that ep 3 will always be my favorite...probably due in large part to the 'you were my brother' scene.
Luminesa
That's probably the best scene of the entire movie right there. Calm, collected Obi-Wan finally breaking loose and crying over his friend.
itsakidsbooksantiago
And Yoda and Palpatine beating the shit out of each other. Don't forget that.
willowhoot
Alec Guinness, giving life and depth to a movie 25 years before it's conception.
RoyalCanuckistan
If only George could have made a movie that lived up to it
LarryLevine
Indeed sir, indeed.
AssamLaksa
haha, he should meet Harrison Ford then.
willowhoot
He... Did.... ?
Selerox
The irony being that he detested Star Wars.
LarryLevine
The other irony is that he agreed to 2% of the take instead of being paid. THAT is guinness...er...genius.
ChipSkylar
He was the original pretentious Star Wars fan.
willowhoot
A good actor won't judge a film, even if it isn't their ideal roll. He didn't despise it as I understand it. He merely didn't care for it.
Scyle
I believe he said SW was "fairytale rubbish", and that it wouldn't do well.
Magjee
He just couldn't help being a great actor
UncomfortableTruths
Fun Fact: he got paid in slightly over 2% of the film's profits. Dude made out like a bandit.
Selerox
He might have hated it, but he picked up the ball and ran with it. Fair play to him.
theflyalpha
This is why I want so badly to have an obi-wan film. There is so much about him to be shared
tjayjay
Have you ever read the Jedi apprentice books? They are aimed at younger (12-14yo) readers, but they give obi wan an amazing backstory
hosuli
They're pretty amazing imo. Just gave the whole series to my 11yo cousin and right after that he named his hamster Obi-Wan
JohnnyTitelips
The prequels should have focused on him, like the OT focused on Luke and the overarching story between the two was about Anakin/Vader.
ImLukeSkywalkerImHereToRescueYou
The prequels should've focused on Anakin as they did; they just shouldn't have sucked.
JohnnyTitelips
They didn't focus on Anakin. They didn't have a focus. That's part of the reason why they were worse.
TheManyFacedDog
Ooo membah Obi-wan?
sergei650
The Legends book Kenobi is one of the best star wars books.

Rogue wan
MyWeeLadGimli
He probably didn't do anything between Episodes III-IV though.
samsonguy920
Pretty sure he did a lot. For one, he would want to keep tabs on Leia as he wanted to get the twins back together in time. >
samsonguy920
> He no doubt hoped that there were other Jedi survivors, as well.
Foxhack
I think a comic series showed that he kept tabs on Luke and his family while he grew up.
imonewiththeforceandtheforceiswithme
Yeah, there's a really good single issue arc where Luke finds Obi Wan's journal and it goes through a story of him protecting a tiny Luke

To be fair the issue with the prequels was down in the writing and letting Lucas do it without restricting forces.

Irishda
For how much people hate the prequels, they did a lot more for the star wars universe than the original trilogy did.
Alpine262
I dont hate the prequels. I hate the writers and director of the prequels.
Sprixxen
So George Lucas and George Lucas?
Alpine262
Bingo. He had a great story and then he balls it up with shitty dialogue, terrible writing, and terrible directing.
Sprixxen
At least he's working on personal projects like salad unboxing these days.
The22ndDoctor
No offense intended, but your statement , if you believe it is true, only shows you were not around between 1977 and 1983.
Irishda
I think it shows how nostalgic people are for a movie they usually see when they're kids.
Sprixxen
Ya, like Jester Dexsters 50's diner. What a wonderful and memorable addition to the Star Wars Universe.
Irishda
Yep, that one example, and not the numerous expansions of alien races and planets beyond "Guy in reptile suit and vacuum cleaner we built"
Sprixxen
Yes like the hilarious Jar Jar Binks, the clever Nute Gunray, the spectacular Fode and Beed pod racer announcers, all great additions.
Irishda
The pod racer announcers were so I don't know what you're talking
Sprixxen
I sure am glad George engaged in "universe building" instead of writing a coherent and exciting script!
JumpyJoey
Not all of it good.
Irishda
Neither was the OT either though. But at least neither of them were as bad as the Expanded Universe
JumpyJoey
I'll have to take your word about the Expanded Universe, I just know that I enjoy the OT whenever it's on TV.
Larkos
The expanded universe did a lot of good by giving names to things and expanding on concepts presented in the OT. There were also problems. 1
Larkos
The slave girl who gotten eaten by the Rancor was a Twi'lek so nearly all Twi'leks became slaves or former slaves. 4
Irishda
There's a dog Jedi Master
Larkos
They would often take a character from the movie with a unique position, look, or character and expand it to the whole race. 2
Larkos
Boba Fett was a Mandalorian and a bounty hunter/warrior. So all Mandalorians became bounty hunters and warriors. 3
decadentmcgangbang
Every one knows the prequels were bad, but Ewan McGregor was a jewel in those movies. Terrific
TheRealCaveJohnson
Cant believe I'm saying this, but I now yearn for the care & quality of the prequels. Ep 7 was a steaming pile.
toddthewee
What's wrong with "A Newer Hope" specifically? (except for the fact that it's a copy of IV) Oh, and that they use the falcon like a hammer 1
toddthewee
, and somehow Poe survives all day in a desert and Finn recognizes him while he's whizzing by at mach whatever. And suddenly everyone can 2

What makes them somewhat watchable is when you realize that Obi and Padme had a secret love affair and Luke and Leia are actually his kids..
Chappers2701
He's a brilliant actor but always seems to get roles in shocking films. I don't get it
DelaysAction
Not everyone! I greatly enjoy the prequels, and they birthed the clone wars series which has some of the best Star Wars stuff ever.
ChefCourt
He made Obi-wan my favorite Jedi of all time

A diamond in the ruff
Bbbrrr000ccckkk1
Yeah I kind of liked the swashbuckling McGreggor better than shuffling Sir Guinness.
CaptainAsshat
You also have to acknowledge how much he looks like the original Ben. Perfectly cast.
mywaysnotverysportsmanlike
I enjoyed the movies except jar-jar and anakin. If they used better actors for anakin and left out jar-jar then they would have been great.
Jamestown37
I've seen Christensen in other movies and he wasn't bad. It was honestly just the dialogue that was terrible.
TheRealCaveJohnson
This. The dialog was awful for everyone, but better actors (like McGregor) minimized it for their parts. Christensen wasnt skilled enough to
chillin223
Hayden was fine. No one can make lines about sand sound good.
04FoxSake
Unconfirmed he had a voice cameo in Force Awakens, during Rey's vision. :o
MyCatHasA75PerCentMoustache
Actually he did confirm it, his voice and Alec's voice was mashed together saying "Rey"
lilmizmuffet
It was when Alec said afraid the cut it down to say Rey, really cool stuff
04FoxSake
nnnniiice. I just love how McGregor was kinda "meh" about the new films leading up to the release, that sly fox!
MyCatHasA75PerCentMoustache
He seemed rather "meh" about E7 even after its release. At least on The Graham Norton Show
04FoxSake
Maybe he's just meh. I've visited Scotland, they can be very meh. Oh well, still 5/7 would bang.
JohnnyTitelips
Eh, 3 was a decent flick.
WellintheNavy
The book made me realize all the potential the third one missed out on. Couldn't appreciate it after that
johnvictor
One of the biggest problems was that rush of an ending. They could have cut out a lot of filler so they could make it less messy.
sumowoman
If you're a motherfucking queen you don't go off dying of broken hearts and shit. Your people need you goddamit. All I've to say about that.
JohnnyTitelips
She wasn't the Queen at that point. She was a Senator. :P
sumowoman
Well, that changes everything.
JohnnyTitelips
Yeah, it actually does.
Bacxaber
Palpatine drained her life force to save Anakin.
phonedog365
Is that canon or just a theory?
PaprikaSix
Biggest problem with 3 is the boring fight at the end and the way it ends right before ANH but with 20 years to spare
Littleman88
Eh, I thought the fight was alright. Little goofy, though, especially the legs getting cut off part feeling a bit forced.
PaprikaSix
It was just way overdone IMO, 20 minutes of flipping around and dancing over lava when a more grounded battle would have had serious tension
Littleman88
Lol, I think that's a matter of preference. The hardcore Star Wars fans were probably flipping their $#!%.
JohnnyTitelips
Well it ended right before ANH because there was shit going on on Tatooine during that time. It's like space New Mexico.
PaprikaSix
Not sure what you mean. I'm just pointing out how weird it is that the droids just sit around on the Tantive etc
Doingitforthepeople
boring fight...? You're kidding right
PaprikaSix
Nope, it went way over the top and got tiresome, especially considering we knew the outcome already
Radicool21
Still salty about how much of a pushover they made Gen Greivous tho
Murraylastname
And Plo koon he was epic.
51rebaS
He's part of the holy trinity of cool looking characters that do absolutely nothing: General Grievous, Boba Fetta, Captain Phasma
Radicool21
Oh man, you're right, one per trilogy. Although Grievous was super legit in the 2003 Clone Wars cartoon, and Fett in the EU.
Radicool21
In case anyone hasn't seen - rare footage of Grievous being a badass: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIj7gIDFDe4
TwoSeamer
I love the old ones, don't mind the prequels. But in all honesty, I thought they developed characters well and explained the back story too
decadentmcgangbang
I do like the prequels a lot actually even with there faults but I feel like if I say that I'll get maliciously attacked so I refrain.
percivaldanvers
I think the prequels were telling a much more ambitious story and failed because it was much harder to do. I respect the ambition though.
CallmeJack02
This, the prequels are like trying to explain the apocalypse, all it's destructive and terrible beauty beyond the description of mortal men
DurendaI
Apocalypse? I don't think the Galactic Empire was that awful. Humans just had racial superiority.
DurendaI
And what replaced it was even worse.
