Sadly it is real and documented. There has been some pressure on lawmakers and now if there is dash cam footage of you doubling back you'll get charged with intentional homicide, but it heavily relies on "pics or it didn't happen".

My issue isn't with the cats reaction, it's with the inconsistencies of the video. The movements appear unnatural, and as another comment pointed out, the pavement doesn't get wet when the cat finally gets out.

The original video is from around 2014 predating AI video by some margin, not sure where the uploader has gone. This video of a different cat was about 2 years later.

Maybe it's just the poor quality of the video and stuttering frame rate, but the movements look very unnatural and the cats legs appear to phase through each other at some parts.
