Yeah totally agree here. Just having a record of exactly what steps were taken by a human team gives you a way to back-check in a way that you cannot with AI. Who knows what fuck ups are hidden away in the AI code/instructions.

Ever heard of molecular gastronomy? Rocket engineering is very much closer to science than that. Furthermore, the Science, the fundamental experimental science, is a highest grade engineering. Because it is not "just" coming up with a clever experiment. It is making it work (which is very non trivial more often than easy) and doing measurements with a required precision... is real science. So is a rocket science, they are doing research and making publications while building that rockets.

Because most people baking a cake are just following a recipe and not doing any experimentation to learn what ingredients have what impact. But there is absolutely a discipline called Food Science and it involves researching recipes and ingredients and flavours and preservatives and nutrition and all kinds of things related to how food is made and enjoyed.
