Me back in 2010! Saw all the art of other artists thinking I was never going to learn this. But here is the thing! Just start... Learn, practice, study, read tutorials and you will get there. The learning curve is the joy. No matter if it is digital or traditional art. Don't think 10 years ahead. Pretty much any time there are multiple subs that look very similar in their content, it was almost always a mod schism. The reputation of some subs is absolutely so far in the pits that the only people posting there are either people who have been there forever or brand new people who have no idea of the sub's reputation.

Those detectors are pretty bad. They flagged my undergrad math work all the time. I wrote those files back in 2010. Problem is that the AI's were trained to write like that too.

Yup, easiest thing to train AI on is classic lit and college papers, because both tend to be available online for free, so they were the first things to be gobbled up. Most of the big "tells" for ai writing are just it basically following MLA and similar standardized writing formats. Meaning, unfortunately, that people who use those same formats (like college students who *have* to use them or get points taken off) get false flagged as being AI.

I remember the US Constitution tends to get flagged as AI-made. The thing is, generative AI produces stuff that is an average of its training data. So it looks average. Thing is, a lot of human-made thing is average too.

A lot of art is average too, which is why some detectors go off. And AI works are undetectable in increasingly more and more complex artwork. In five years it will be impossible to know anymore.

I've tested those detectors by inputting real human text (technical documents written by me) and AI text. Most detectors were unable to reliably spot the AI, and consistently flagged my writing as AI. It is appalling to me that even my own professors have integrated these detectors into their course policy as a way to spot plagiarism despite such unreliability. Frankly, I'm left dumbfounded and without a solution. Do I simply write more poorly?
I also don't see this ever improving...

Been several artist on Twatter and reddit who took the easy route and started using Ai. One went from 50 000 follower to just 400 in an time span of a year. People know and won't put up with it. The sad thing he complained, not seeing why he lost his rep.

Not all but a lot are and when you run into them it's pretty irritating. They will make a subreddit about a major, popular topic, and then treat it like their own personal domain because *they* claimed the name & moderate it. IMO if you run a sub that is the main sub for any major topic, you have a responsibility to treat it like a public resource.

For whatever reason, for example, the /r/tarantulas sub mods are absolutely insane like that. The one blanket-banned an entire thread's worth of people because they didn't like the topic (which broke no rules), added a different forum to the blacklist/censored text because they didn't like that, and previously threatened to ban people for even mentioning it because linking it was against their personal rules (not in the rule list...) and even a mention was "skirting" the rules. Just silly drama.

The problem there is it's one of the main resources for a popular hobby which has very few large public forums, and it just becomes a popularity contest & highly restrictive overall, limiting your other resources (can't discuss certain things, can't point to helpful content on other forums) etc. Like... it's a whole hobby's forum, stop treating it like your own personal playground. You didn't pay for that shit.

AI has been absolutely garbage at setting host and switch level policies and configurations in my experience, but I haven't really used a trained model beyond, "we paid for the tokens now make with the rapid design implementation!" Doesn't really help when AI is convinced that you can just daisy chain smart switches and let them handle all the traffic distribution.

i think the plot in the beginning is someone is isekai'd in to a sort of litrpg, and stuff happens and basicially makes the Hippocratic Oath as a child but oaths mean some serious shit. Pretty sure the series is beneath the dragoneye moons or something close enough

Same shit with stuff I write... I write like a combination of Dave Barry and William Faulkner... people used to find it funny and creative, now I get people saying it's AI... now I just stick to writing stuff at sites where people already know me, but even then I've lost the enjoyment of writing. Don't get me started on what AI has done to CGI... I used to make fun images using 3D models I made and photoshop... forget that now because its less special or interesting because of AI.

I am not really an artsy person, but have played around 3D modeling in Blender, spent many hours following tutorials and getting the hang of it. Eventually did some things with cloth physics, and modeled a (low poly lol) car. The topology probably was terrible, the results mediocre, and never shared what I made because I did it because I enjoyed learning, enjoyed the process, and the end result is something special to me. You don't need other people's approvel to enjoy making something.

CGI makes great use, and has for a long time, of generative stuff and AI can be a very useful tool for people in that field. Although, I do get the enjoyment of the struggle to make the product even if it is just some amatuer shit in blender. I'm no programmer but one of my favorite "games" is getting 500 mods to work on skyrim (actually, my Fallout4 game currently has 2k+ mods running). I actually tried to use one

of the earlier versions of these LLM's to make a mod in fallout, out of curiosity see how far it'd get with it. Basically the simple prompt was "make a mod that changes your gun when you reload it" and the mod 'worked'. Problem being having to load up every single gun in existence within fallout crashing the game. That was fun but not as fun as figuring out how to convert the whole game/edit the physics engine etc.

But I was hired because I know how to use Gimp, Inkscape, some Adobe - who can afford Adobe these days - Camtasia, DaVinci Resolve - FFS! I've used Corel! Actually, Adobe’s one of the better ones on training: they licensed their dataset from their own Adobe Stock program.
The controversy over terms was basically that Adobe was sufficiently *vague* in their terms to make it *possible* for them to do nefarious shit, but they’ve since updated the terms since to narrow it a bit and *explicitly say* that they won’t train on people’s work that way.
Adobe sucks in many ways, including pushing mediocre AI tools, but that specific complaint is bunk.

Which unfortunately makes it flawed, I've already found 1 legitimate artist being claimed AI within 5 minutes of using it and less than a dozen images. And not a 'maybe', but a "90%" and a "medium" confidence, where it has only ever used 'low' on declaring 'real' images 'real'.
It seems reasonably good with photos and photorealism but is questionable at best for digital art in other styles.

IMO, one hint that that pic is not AI is the hairs. They are continuous and seem individually drawn - maybe even too detailed to be real. AI hair and similar patterns are the other way around: they kinda lose individuality and blend with each other forming blurry waves.

There was an *ancient* video of a cat poorly rotobrushed to look like it was riding an alligator (like it had the green halo around it, and bad artifacting and everything) that I first saw when I was in high school in the mid 2000s that was part of a vid dump on here awhile back, and there was some guy in the comments arguing with *everyone* that it was AI, for literally no other reason than "a cat wouldn't be riding an alligator".

AI paranoia is very real right now. People hate AI, understandably, but everyone wants to be the first one to point it out and as a result a lot of legit stuff or pictures edited by more traditional means (Photoshop, etc.) get called out as AI. And the AI hatred is so high that most people won't bother to verify the claims before burying the art under downvotes, bans, the whole thing. It's a good reminder that even if you're on the right side morally, it doesn't give you a license to act dumb.

There's also AI "upscaling" and AI recreation of old images. If a meme was popular 20 years ago with 20 pixels you can ask a chatbot to recreate it at higher resolution and probably get some fake points for minimal effort.

There's actually a user here that posts daily AI slop posts--AI "articles" often (but not always) accompanying AI-generated images. But because it is usually ragebait political posts he's rarely called out on it. People get too caught up in the content to catch the source. JamieGeorge if you want to see it. He's a person and defends it by mocking anyone who calls him out, which is rare.

I saw an author accused of using AI art in their book, they swore not only did they not, but the art was commissioned before AI was a thing. Turns out their PDF editor automatically used AI to retouch the pictures and they didn't know it. AI is a cancer.

Yeah there's a fine line between ex. a sharpen tool and a contrast enhancer vs. a tool in a program that hits those functions automatically. My issue is more that such tools are becoming increasingly opt-out and often don't inform you they are working on your stuff. A friend has a phone camera whose default software AI-edits the pictures to "improve" them and you cannot turn it off, only install an alternate photography app.
