Proper protocol in the midwest is to go stand on your porch to watch. Since this building doesn't have a porch, the window is acceptable.

my plane landed in tampa just before the tropical storm hit a few weeks ago. by the time we'd deplaned, it was raining so hard you couldn't see the plane at the end of the jet bridge from the terminal. good times.

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

I would probably move away from the window

If you die in Ohio, do you die in real life?

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

If you are in Ohio, you are already dead inside.

Me too, but if you step out into that storm over there, you end up in Oz, not in the Shire

Exactly the same for me

You can check out anytime you like but you can never leave.

Except, like, maybe in a little while after things have died down a bit.

Always bugged me how the way his limbs are pointed, it shows him leaving Ohio. Limbs are lighter than your head, so if you were being pulled sideways by an equal force, it would drag your limbs towards the direction you're going.

Oh I would. Take every conservative in this country, *give* them Ohio to do with as they please, and watch it burn.

John Glenn, Neil Armstrong, Jim Lovell, and around 20 other astronauts were born in Ohio. All have gone to extreme lengths to try to get as far away as possible.

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

Boy haven’t heard this one before. You’re so funny! Maybe Ohio has smart and brave people that make great astronauts!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's half the story of Ohio. The other half is that they came back despite those very impressive and quite-sensible efforts.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Second mistake was going to Cleveland....

Ohioan here that loves Ohio - that's the first mistake, but otherwise you're right

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Cleveland native here. These folks can be excused because we just don't get this kind of weather here ever and this particular storm intensified to almost hurricane force in just a few minutes. We've had several 100 year storms here in the last year. Almost like something is changing with the climate.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I dunno, get some tea or coffee and enjoy the view?

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

Having grown up in the Midwest my reaction was “order dinner”.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My wife and I did exactly that once. Planned activities were forgotten, had tea, cake, and more of both and just watched a tropical storm roll in from the hotel restaurant.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

That sounds lovely. Best wishes to you both.

Na bugger that, I've never seen a storm that strong. I don't value my life highly enough not to want to be up against them watching out

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

why. are u afraid of the glass pains?

A couple years ago, I was flying home from Toronto Pearson a couple of days before christmas, and my flight was delayed for 12 hours due to a storm. I was waiting in the Air Canada lounge, enjoying the sound of the absolutely horrifying windstorm, when the people working the lounge came out and said to everyone "Don't worry, the windows are designed so that if they shatter they'll explode outwards."

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Everyone in the lounge then got up and moved away from the windows anyways.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I was gonna say move away from the window....

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's Cleveland, not Cleverland :)

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I agree, but it looks like straight line winds. They are either running parallel to the window or hitting the other side of the building. Now, if wind changes, definitely.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You cannot tell straight line winds from observation....

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yeah, there's no way to tell which way that tree out the window is blowing.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Literally my first thought. That glass is strong, but that storm is stronger than you'd think.

2 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

But it's not because the glass didn't break.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It’s not *that* the wind is blowing, it’s *what* the wind is blowing.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I see you won’t be collecting a darwin award any time soon. I hear they are shiny though

2 years ago | Likes 120 Dislikes 0

Honestly, if I were to go out, I might as well get an award for it. However, if I go out of my way to get a Darwin award, would that count? It feels like it defeats the purpose of a Darwin award a little bit.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shame. Oh well.

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Looooser! :D

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But but but... my evolved ape brain says safety away from glass. My midwesterner brain says it can't be *that* bad. And my raccoon brain say ooh shiny

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You get to see it once.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

You don't have to die to get the Darwin Award.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

But are they crinkly?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's windy outside, not inside you silly goose.

2 years ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 6

Pressure changes can blow glass out as easy as pie.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Inside is just outside with more walls

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Winds can carry stuff, something that just may be heavy and flying fast enough to bust through that window.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Eh, it's tempered glass. Sometimes the show is worth the risk!

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 30

The danger isn't just the glass,... its the kinet force of a tree hitting you. which will likely kill you. Id like to reach late game of this stupid little game we call life. Its not worth the risk for a bunch of people to show up to your funeral and some one finally blurts out "The stupid git died because he was stupid. That's why we're today. Because bob liked to like outlets and play under trees in bad weather."

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Look, live your life: I'm not here to tell you what to do. I just prefer my life be interesting, rather than simply interminable.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I prefer to be around to live it, instead of doing things to get myself hurt no particularly good reason. The very same logic I use when babysitting a toddler and they think the life experience of swallowing a battery will be exhilerating and additive to their world view in spite of the risk, i stop them from choking down a 9 volt, because I think the thrill of collapsed esophagus can be done without.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That just means it shatters into small fragments instead of large pieces. With that wind behind them the shards it will still mess you up good.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Sometimes the show is worth the risk!

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

It's not *that* the wind is blowin... it's *what* the wind is blowin. You get hit with a Volvo....

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

To be fair, I'm probably more likely to get hit with a Volvo while driving

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Are you Ron "Tater Salad" White?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You've been hit by... dun dun.
You've been struck by... dun dun.
An airborne Volvo.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

* hundreds of lbs of tempered glass… but also it’s not the glass that’s the most dangerous, it’s the debris that was heavy enough and moving fast enough to shatter that glass, which you are standing behind.

2 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

Right? Clearly someone didn't watch Final Destination growing up.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

That'd be pretty difficult for me, since I was already an adult when the first one came out...

… or like the side of an entire shed picked up and thrown north of triple digit speed. Or a 10ft tree branch yeeting along like some greenery ballistic missile. Or… so many random things you wouldn’t want to walk into much less have to try to catch at Highway speeds.
