my plane landed in tampa just before the tropical storm hit a few weeks ago. by the time we'd deplaned, it was raining so hard you couldn't see the plane at the end of the jet bridge from the terminal. good times.
Always bugged me how the way his limbs are pointed, it shows him leaving Ohio. Limbs are lighter than your head, so if you were being pulled sideways by an equal force, it would drag your limbs towards the direction you're going.
John Glenn, Neil Armstrong, Jim Lovell, and around 20 other astronauts were born in Ohio. All have gone to extreme lengths to try to get as far away as possible.
Cleveland native here. These folks can be excused because we just don't get this kind of weather here ever and this particular storm intensified to almost hurricane force in just a few minutes. We've had several 100 year storms here in the last year. Almost like something is changing with the climate.
My wife and I did exactly that once. Planned activities were forgotten, had tea, cake, and more of both and just watched a tropical storm roll in from the hotel restaurant.
A couple years ago, I was flying home from Toronto Pearson a couple of days before christmas, and my flight was delayed for 12 hours due to a storm. I was waiting in the Air Canada lounge, enjoying the sound of the absolutely horrifying windstorm, when the people working the lounge came out and said to everyone "Don't worry, the windows are designed so that if they shatter they'll explode outwards."
I agree, but it looks like straight line winds. They are either running parallel to the window or hitting the other side of the building. Now, if wind changes, definitely.
Honestly, if I were to go out, I might as well get an award for it. However, if I go out of my way to get a Darwin award, would that count? It feels like it defeats the purpose of a Darwin award a little bit.
The danger isn't just the glass,... its the kinet force of a tree hitting you. which will likely kill you. Id like to reach late game of this stupid little game we call life. Its not worth the risk for a bunch of people to show up to your funeral and some one finally blurts out "The stupid git died because he was stupid. That's why we're today. Because bob liked to like outlets and play under trees in bad weather."
I prefer to be around to live it, instead of doing things to get myself hurt no particularly good reason. The very same logic I use when babysitting a toddler and they think the life experience of swallowing a battery will be exhilerating and additive to their world view in spite of the risk, i stop them from choking down a 9 volt, because I think the thrill of collapsed esophagus can be done without.
* hundreds of lbs of tempered glass… but also it’s not the glass that’s the most dangerous, it’s the debris that was heavy enough and moving fast enough to shatter that glass, which you are standing behind.
… or like the side of an entire shed picked up and thrown north of triple digit speed. Or a 10ft tree branch yeeting along like some greenery ballistic missile. Or… so many random things you wouldn’t want to walk into much less have to try to catch at Highway speeds.

Proper protocol in the midwest is to go stand on your porch to watch. Since this building doesn't have a porch, the window is acceptable.
