Cause of death

Are news outlets saying things like "These people died of respiratory issues" for people who are dying of Covid?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Occasionally, yes.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, but did you remember yo draw your anti bear circle?

6 years ago | Likes 218 Dislikes 4

& inject anti-bear bleach!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yes, but it was more like a oval.

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Doesn’t that only work for seabears?

6 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 0

And you are still doomed unless you wear your anti-sea rhinoceros underwear

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, if you see bears draw the circle.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

This is what’s called an underlying condition. You wouldn’t have died from wounds if you didn’t have diabetes. Why is this so hard to grasp.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I thinks it’s that in this scenario—technically—she didn’t die from the wounds, she died b/c her diabetes wasn’t managed properly, (1/2)

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

presumably by healthcare professionals and presumably while she couldn’t manage it herself.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

AIDS doesn't kill you, the other infections do. Bullets don't kill you, its the blood loss, trauma, and shock. Yet we say people died of

6 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

AIDS, or gunshot wounds. This crap is just more rat-licking plague spreader rhetoric.

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

would the other things have killed you without the AIDS or gunshot wound? If no, t hen t hey are not COD.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm unsure exactly what you are saying, so I'll say it again differently. Every death or injury has comorbidities, barring sudden things

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Like a random stroke or blood clot in an otherwise healthy individual. So people saying 95% of the people that died that hd covid only died

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Becuase of some other issue, so covid isn't a big deal, is ridiculous.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A contractor doing work on my house just told me he thought COVID was a hoax. First denier I've met in the wild. I was speechless.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I know one, but she's fucking nuyts in general, so sure. . . I just nod & get away asap, withmask tightly on.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The irony of America, of all nations, being like "well COVID didn't cause those deaths, obesity did" and acting like they're safe

While siiting in mcdonalds watching netflix

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well, no-one ever dies from old age, or AIDs. They just let something else kill you.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

EVERY death is "heart failure" technically.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

"HosPiTalS get Moarr monEy fOr CoViD!" No shit no shit, highly contagious diseases are fucking expensive to contain

Trump, later today: "A lot of people are saying bears are the cause of COVID-19. Chinese bears. The C stands for China."

6 years ago | Likes 1646 Dislikes 37

CBD. Chinese bear disease.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That's 3 sentences that flow into each other without a tangent. He's never that coherent.

Bear stands for Beijing endangers all Americans, really. So it makes sense

There’s a lot of jobs in bear attacks! Why don’t we want to be friends with these bears? Some say bear attacks are a good thing!

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I want this framed and above my fireplace.

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

i dont regret reading this is my Trump voice

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ew. I can hear it in his voice.

When you're trying to do public health education but you still gotta somehow work in that you run marathons.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The Vegan claim comes in the next talk?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Caught Covid-19. Cause of death? Too many bears in her blood.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I read that as “type 1 ultradiabetes” and was like woah, sounds serious

6 years ago | Likes 1914 Dislikes 13

Pawnee has the first case of Mega Diabetes

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I came down here to find this. Thank you.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Is that like when I see my son's English teacher and I get an ultraboner?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Erections lasting longer to 4 hours = ultraboner. Go to the ER.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can... Can I just go to the house or my son's English teacher? She can help. I just know it. With grammar

It's what the ultramarines get

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And begs the question: tf is a ultramarathon?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sounds dreadful

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It’s a marathon. But ultra. Also, it’s about 50 miles.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

v

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought ultras were 100 miles, or is ultra just any marathon above 26.2 miles?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think it’s anything over 26.2.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought it said Ultramarines not ultramarathons. I was wondering what 40k had to do with diabetes.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only diabetes.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

COME BROTHER, YOU MUST NOT LET THE XENOS FINISH BEFORE US

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can't it be both? I mean, if recovering from the hypothetical bear attack was complicated by diabetes management then both were factors.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

both would be on the death certificate but the leading cause would be the bear attack, in this dr's example

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I work for a LHD in KY. We take death reporting for COVID really fucking seriously. Trump’s comment was an insult to all of our credibility.

6 years ago | Likes 83 Dislikes 3

This, my wife works for a major non-profit hospital system. Getting flagged as a covid death is a high bar.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Retweet, that is. Our work shouldn’t be undermined by our own government.

6 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

He also had a "doctor" undermine your credibility.

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Was this the doctor that warned us of demon sperm?

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yup

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you think these people believe that AIDS isn't deadly? Hardly anyone dies from AIDS. They die from common illnesses after AIDS has (1)

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

weakened their immune system. So AIDS really isn't deadly at all, it's not big deal to get it. Just live your life unafraid! (2)

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes. Aids is not a cause of death. It will still be listed as a contributing factor of the cause. Excellent analogy.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is ted the bear or the diabetes? Asking for a friend

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

the bear is always Fred.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wow. I read this 5 times to make sense of it because I kept reading "ultramarathons" as "ultramarines" and was super confused.

Remember when the death count was 100,000? One of them was disputing that number over this issue, and then acted like they’d ‘won’.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm legitimately confused, what is this in response to? What idiocy did I miss out on this time?

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

People with underlying illnesses that get Corona don’t actually die because of Corona. It’s like how bleeding out kills you, not the bullet.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

everyday there is fresh stupidity happening out there and getting posted on here. ive discovered its not always worth persuing.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

new stats showed most covid deaths are technically something else and it's got the anti-maskers excited.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Not really. Most covid deaths are *still* covid deaths, even technically. Pneumonia is not a symptom of diabethes or hypertension.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

To play devil's advocate, if you get in a car crash, and you go to the hospital, they test you for corona. If you die from the wreck

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Injuries, it's still being tallied as a corona death. Which is wrong.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The amount of shit I got from idiots when I tried to explain this last month was shocking. They don't care that I'm a Dr that saw and worked

6 years ago | Likes 645 Dislikes 17

With a name like @DrDoALittleMoreThanBareMinimum I am also wary of your western medicine.

6 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

My NP friend goes thru the same thing. Everyone explaining to her that it’s a hoax and then looking to her for their personal medical advice

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I am a NP. Can confirm.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just can’t take much more idiocracy

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I finally had it today as well. Anyone still with tRump at this point can go to Hell because that’s where they belong.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It’s making me want to go home to be real. I don’t wanna be here if he wins

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It is so very unlikely that he will. And if he would, I expect a huge uprising. I'm not american but I'm starting to feel bad for them

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why did you explain this? Like I don't get the reference, what is the debate here

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

A few days ago, someone intentionally misinterpreted new CDC data to claim that CV19 had a morbidity rate of "only" 6% b/c most deaths /1

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

occured in patients w/ co-morbidities & only about that many died purely from CV19 effects.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I know exactly what you mean. They’re maddeningly dense when it comes to this.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What is your point exactly? That the deadcount should be called "died of complications related to covid hospitalization"?

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 16

The opposite, I think. That the deadcount should be called "Died of Covid." Covid being the bear in this situation.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

No bear, no hospit..no problem with db, no death. Same logic applies to CV19. Doesnt matter if its the virus who killed or the comorbidities

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

If you lived well with the comorbidities until covid came.. you wouldnt have died if not for covid. So wear a mask and wash your hands.

6 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Explain to them that guns don't kill people. People kill people. You need to learn their language.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

The first rule of idiots and deniers... disregard logic and fact.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm going with "what is the survival rate of those underlying conditions? Is Covid an X factor?"

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thing is it can flip both ways.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 16

Aside from this, right now there's 120 million Americans with heart disease, 50 million with respitory disease, and 100 million with 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 1

Wait holy fuck, nearly a third of the country has heart disease?

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

"heart disease" describes like 40 different conditions. Some are relatively minor/unnoticeable, others are immediately life-threatening.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Yes, as the article points out high blood pressure counts. But it would be considered a comorbidity if someone died of COVID

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just wait till u find out the undiagnosed is a fuck ton higher

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't listen and keep eating processed food! It makes shareholders happy and therefore increases health!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also: there is this new series on netflix so don't bother moving your body

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

diabetes, and about 70 million people over the age of 60. Saying "it only kills people with other conditions and old people!" is dumb.

6 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 0

That's not dumb, that is the empirical truth. Anyone that says its a reason to ignore the threat it poses is dumb.

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 4

Well why would you repeat that fact without additionql info if you don't want to suggest that covid is harmless?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wouldn't lmao, that'd be dumb

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What they are really saying is "It only kills people who aren't ME"

6 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Them or those close to them. It gets close to funny when one of these type of people lose someone and their tune changes.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Which isn't even true. Low risk is not no risk. I will never understand why people think it is.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Because you have a "low risk" of dying from a lot of things you probably shouldn't waste time worrying about.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I thought surely 100M Americans can’t have diabetes, but 34M have it and 88M have pre-diabetes, so it’s truly that insane. Corn syrup maybe?

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

The main risk factors for diabetes are obesity, lack of exercise, and genetic propensity.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sugar is a great contributor to obesity

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No it’s the fact they put sugar in everything, even our bread.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

In America, corn syrup aka glucose syrup is used in place of sugar in a lot of foods because America produces more corn than sugar.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Them-"But only 7% died of only coronovirus" Me-"no shit you don't die of only the flu you die of pneumonia, dehydration, old age, and the flu"

6 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

The current case fatality rate is actually about 3%.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Huh, who are you speaking to? I sure didn't mention case fatality rate.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then what do you mean “only 7% died of coronavirus”. What’s that 7% supposed to be?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's not what I said you took out a only.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can't use quotes and not even quotes what was said.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Even though this is commentary on a tragic and damaging phenomenon, you've presented a beautiful metaphor here.

I never understood this because outside of America really, healthcare isn’t a business & America isn’t even the top in cases anymore...

6 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 1

America, where health is a product and not a service.

6 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

I can’t say my country is perfect re: healthcare but holy fuck balls how Americans haven’t rioted due to medical debt is beyond me

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I love that they think it’s fake. That every country in the world somehow put aside their differences so they could pretend there’s a virus

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So what you're saying, is that fentanyl killed George Floyd?

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

Phony accusations of counterfeit bills killed George Floyd.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nah, what they’re saying is multiple things can go on a death cert and 1 thing is gonna be the primary factor, choking is for Floyd if you

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

possess more than 2 brain cells.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So yes, it was the bear that killed OP.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Additionally, comorbidity contributes a lot to the statistic, you can’t just discredit someone who ultimately died of cancer if they could

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What are you doing approaching bears? Sounds kinda like partying without a mask on.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

If you're an adult, & you want to be dead, that's your business, but don't involve anyone else.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ya tried explaining this to some Midwestern co-workers, they didn't seem to understand the difference between cause and contributing.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

If you had terminal cancer and contracted covid then died would that be a covid death? This was My grandmother, except her she got pneumonia

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It would be classified COVID, but epidemiologists studying the epidemic 5 years from now would not consider that an "excess death" in 2020

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks you, great info

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

because that hypothetical person would have died in 2020 anyways. This year is going to have many fewer deaths from traditional causes.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The concept here is "harvesting", where an infectious disease is the immediate cause of death in the oldest/sickest members of a population

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

At some point we'll be able to calculate that 250k people died "with" COVID in 2020, but the excess mortality in 2020 was 150k.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Which (using those numbers) means 150k people who otherwise would have lived died because of COVID

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes and no. If the person who fills out the death certificate has half-way decent training, they will list secondary and terciary causes

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Problem is, not everyone is trained.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Technically any "doctor" including coroners(coronaers?) are trained.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Well yeah, the bear is the cause of death

Bear wouldn't have attacked if she was wearing her mask...

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't think a mask is going to stop a bear

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seems like a gray area though. The bear attack would’ve brought her in for medical care, but if she dies from low blood sugar or

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

ketoacidosis, it doesn’t sound unreasonable to say diabetes killed her either. Sounds like teamwork.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

comorbidity, yup.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Which is why its a co-morbidity.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Flip a coin. Heads, we put down "bear attack". Tails, "Diabetes"

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

IMO, If you bled out first, then it’s bear. If you have enough blood but hypo/hyperglycemia or DKA kills you, then it’s diabetes.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Disagree. She's weak because of diabetus. If she was weak from old age you would blame the bear no further questions.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Say you surprise Grandma by showing up to her birthday party. She has a heart attack. You are the cause of death, not the weak heart.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

She was happily having a birthday party till you entered the room.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

"she died peacefully of old age and a bear attack"

Ok, well I guess we’ll just have to disagree.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

i agree with the disagreeing

They should still pit Type 1 Diabetes on your death cert as a secondary cause of death or complication leading to death. Right?

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Yeah, for sure, but jackasses shouldn’t look at 6% non-comorbidity and use it to downplay the severity of bear attacks.

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Sure, but that doesn't mean that the bear didn't kill them, which is what the Covidiots are saying.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Well, yes. The failure to managed her T1D is actually the primary cause of death. Hospital reports can hide the truth.

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 19

The primary cause of death would be that her brain stopped.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

If a factor that wouldn't've normally endangered someone killed them due to an external factor, the external factor is the cause of death.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

You put the immediate COD down, otherwise you can trace cause & effect back & just put "birth" down as COD for everyone.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

CoD: "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void..."

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No argument, or as they(PhDs) prefer to word it: BANG(a big one)

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's considered by many, to be "First Cause" in a static void (I prefer the Oscillating Universe Theory, but ultimately a motion was begun)

Douglas Adams quote would've been more fitting in afterthought...

Is this referencing something?

People saying COVID-19 isn't dangerous because contributing factors are listed in deaths.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There was a stat from the CDC that 6% of COVID-19 deaths in the US had no comorbidities. People of a certain political leaning ran with...

6 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

...that and said "look, only 9,000 true COVID deaths, everyone else died from other causes, COVID is a hoax!" Which is not how any...

6 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

...other medical condition is treated.

6 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Americans being fucking morons & intentionally undercounting COVID deaths because people caught COVID, it exacerbated some other condition >

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

so medical authorities are like "Well, COVID stressed out their organs, but they technically had a heart attack so that's what killed them."

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Some are going with a comorbidity narrative. ‘They didn’t die of COVID-19 but rather asthma or diabetes hashtag sixpercent’

6 years ago | Likes 117 Dislikes 1

There are some legitimacy to the process though. As many countries log everyone with covid positive test as covid death if they died within

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

x days of the test, you can later go back and read the actual records to tease out cause of death. E.g. if you had covid-19 and got

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

fatally attacked by a bear, to keep with the example. In Sweden that lowers the number with 15%, so most are still covid-19.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I have a engineer who works for me. Masters in nuclear engineering. He told me today that only 10,000 people have died of COVID

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's an important distinction, even in the bear scenario in the report it would likely be logged as trauma from bear attack and hypoglycemia

6 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

Hypoglycemia is too low of blood sugar. Injury and pain generally cause violent up spikes, not down spikes. Then again, I'm type 2.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's important in some ways, not in a "the bear attack had nothing to do with it" way.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It would most likely be hyperglycemia, easier to fix hypo. Hyper would damage vessels and slow healing, increasing risk of infection.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not important in the way people typically want it to be, it’s not important to distinguish only to downplay severity of bear attacks.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Agreed.
