The Trainwreck sandwich at Beck's Cajun Cafe in the Philly Reading Terminal Market. Best sandwich I've ever had. And I think it lasted for three meals.

did you post this because you want people to keep saying fuck you @Lassannn How dare you, New Jersey is the cheesesteak state ooooo this makes me so angry....

2 weeks ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 3

I also disagree with his assessment.

2 weeks ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Using prime rib for cheesesteak just seems wrong. A good cheesesteak is about using a cheap cut of beef and making it into ambrosia.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

*unzips*

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Your man thinks it takes 10 minutes to caramelize onions and it shows

2 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I'm just happy it didn't have cheese whiz. That shit makes me gag just thinking about it.

2 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

Thats what a philly is though. Either Provolone or Cheeze Whiz.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

No, a proper Philly is American cheese. Fuck Pat's and Gino's, neither is a proper Philly.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I dont even put "american cheese food product" on burgers in my home.

Not that cheeze whiz is much better, mind. But its more a philly than american. Pat also put on provolone. Which was before the whiz.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I'd eat it, I'd probably like it a lot. That ain't an award winning cheese steak though.

2 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Doesn't look traditional but as not a big traditional cheesesteak kinda guy (not like I won't eat just it would never be my first choice) I would call it an improvement per my own tastes cuz I don't really want whiz and I'm totally fine with the chicken salad consistency it ended up being

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The best sandwich is the one I get to eat.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

they're all good sandwiches, bront.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So it's chopped up rib roast with a bunch of other delicious stuff? Heck yeah! Sign me up!

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I would happily try it, but a traditional style cheese steak is more my speed.

2 weeks ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 1

It looks a little over chopped. I think the texture would be too buttery. I want a little snap. Oh, and jalapeños! like what? Put jalapeños on it damn you!

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I concur with this. I'm thinking I'd like it, but the relish I'm just not so sure.

2 weeks ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

I think they should have used actual caramelized onions rather than what they actually did. Adding some garnish on top would be nice too.

2 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Never had one. Just never been to a restaurant that served one.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I wanna say the best ones are from street vendors, not full on restaurants

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I'll look around for them then.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Street meat will always win. Especially after the bar!

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah okay but how much does it cost?

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

About three fiddy

2 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Caramelized onions in butter sound great. Sadly, cheesesteak places near me just put slimy onions in that are cooked in oil. And i doubt they're using prime rib.

I love Philly cheesesteaks, but hard pass on that pepper relish. That turns it into something else.

2 weeks ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 6

It looks like it *could* be delicious, but I don't see how this is a cheesesteak.... but then I've never had a Jersey style one so who knows.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yeah something extra delicious with a kick

2 weeks ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 3

It's fascinating how Americans don't have free healthcare, but eat like they do.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The internet: "fuck well done beef"
New Jersey making a Phili: "We cook the shit out of it!"
The internet: "amazing!"

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

irregardless on who or where... people losing sight of the what. what was the philly cheese steak. what did try to accomplish? cheap filling nurrishement.

all the idiots out there trying to make it more and more fancy, more expensive, just to dis-enfrenchaise the working wo-man.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

hate to be that person but irregardless is not a word

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

firstly, i think that cant be right.
irregardless of that, i made my point.
anyways tho thank you for point out my mistake. i will try to Orientate my vocabular to a more correctivitated point of reference.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Maybe it is because i'm not from the us. Looks amazing, but the mountain of meat makes it look horrible. That's like two or three meals of food worth.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I think the folks in Philly might have something to say about that...

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Civil War II will 100% begin between the two and blossom out of control like WWI.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Pretty sure most of the country would dog pile on New Jersey. The only people who like New Jersey are New Jerseyians. It’s like Ohio.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Preface: Live in Philly

Pepper relish is a popular condiment for hoagies and steaks here. Cooper sharp is dope. It's an interesting take. I don't think it'd be bad, it might actually fuck tbh.

That said, fuck you @Lassannn and FUCK North Jersey especially, buncha try hard toolbags :)

2 weeks ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 4

Preface: lived in the PA and NJ ‘burbs, worked in the city. Currently right across the river.

I’d try it if it was offered to me, but I wouldn’t seek it out intentionally.

The onions aren’t cooked enough and all the effort that went into butchering the meat is wasted when they chop it into a paste like that. I can’t believe I’m saying this: too much cheese.

My favorite In NJ is Lillo’s in Mt Laurel. They put the garlic butter on the bread before toasting it on the griddle. Donkey’s is ass.

2 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

doot. will have to try lillo's. garlic bread cheesesteaks are great

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That looks like it'd fall apart if you threw it at a Federal agent, and that might get you convicted.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yuck

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not only is that not the best sandwich, and not the best cheesesteak, it looks foul. He absolutely mashed it into paste by the end. Part of the appeal of a cheesesteak is the textures and slight differences in every bite. Absolutely ruined.

2 weeks ago | Likes 97 Dislikes 14

Yes , just give me those slices of beef with some mustard between two slices of bread. That is texture!, not the gruel he created

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

YES. THAT!

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That and he brags about what a great cook the beef has - to then cook it to absolute death on the flattop. Which is why it’s half cheese and chopped to mush otherwise it would like chewing on boot leather.

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

I don't know how this looks appealing to anyone. It's just a mashed up cat vomit sludge by the end. 🤢

2 weeks ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 6

Agree. Not certain why the *popular* American view seems to be: more sludge == enhanced opulence, but the burgers and sandwiches that get presented look like utter shit. I guess it must be hatebait.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seriously, I think I get a better cooked cheesesteak from Wawa.
Don't get me wrong, there are ways to make a simple cheesesteak better, but this ain't it.
Then again, it was obvious he was on one when he called JERSEY the home of the PHILLY cheesesteak...

2 weeks ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 4

Wawa cheesesteaks are the best!! So much better than we got at any of the so-called best shops in Philly.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

That is why the restaurant is in Jersey and not in Philly. People who want a decent cheese steak will drive into Philly. Those who don't care go to his place.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

More for me.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Being from the other side of the planet, I’m not too familiar with cheesesteak tradition, but I did find myself getting more distraught the further he chopped and minced it all together. That first flip with the caramelised onions on top, I was all ‘oh yes!’ but was immediately ‘oh no’ as the chopping started. And then it just kept going …

2 weeks ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 2

I was surprised he didn't chop the bread into tiny pieces as well to "better mix it" with the cat vomit

2 weeks ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

It's less of a sandwich and more of a meat smoothie.

2 weeks ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

baby food

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Should have dumped it in a blender and saved time.

2 weeks ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Some of the best secret steaks in tge Philly area maintain(ed) the slice and are/were not chopped.

RIP Cisco's and your cheesesteak and cheesesteak hoagies. Real ones KNOW.

2 weeks ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Hey hey hey, Pat's. That is all

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Preach

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Your man thinks you can caramelize onion in 2 minutes.

That's a fucking sauteed onion.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not enough bread, cheese shouldn't be mixed in, the people of New Jersey can keep their garbage sandwich

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fuck you @Lassannn. New Jersey is not a state. It is a mafia run waste management front on land that rightfully belongs to NYC and Philadelphia.

2 weeks ago | Likes 206 Dislikes 15

They're a glorified crew

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

* the most densely populated mafia waste land

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

Jersey is the suburbs that Philly and NYC do not want.

Connecticut is the suburbs for people to good to live in NYC and Boston, except for Hartford. That is where the help lives.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I swore when I lived there it was the garbage state?

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

It used to have the most garbage dumps per capita but that title has been taken by Michigan which as an Ohioan is fitting for that "state"

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it was more of a play on 'the garden state' isn't that the real slogan?

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

NJ is where PA and NY keep their mistakes.

2 weeks ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 4

Then why don't Fetterman and Cuomo live here?

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Born in NY, grew up in NJ. I'll take one for the team and just say "agreed".

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I was born in PA and ended up in Jersey.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bagel Jersey or Cheesesteak Jersey?

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cheesesteak Jersey. Gloucester.

It's Saturyay! And @mrpuckett's bday, so yeah, #WHIMSYFEST2026!!!

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The Reuben is the best sandwich!

Fuck you Lassann! I will die on this hill.

2 weeks ago | Likes 96 Dislikes 12

WE will die on this hill!

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You picked a winner!

2 weeks ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 3

I hope you have a good day Lasaannn.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Cubano.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And I will KILL on that hill as an ally! Reuben is the perfect sandwich that works at any time of day: Its acidic tanginess wakes you up in the morning or drives you through the day at lunch, the savoriness and slight sweetness is great for dinner, and has a special little zing that makes for a great cheeky late-night meal.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Damn now I'm gonna have to make Reubens this weekend! Mmmm!

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It's also Arnold Schwarzenegger's pick for best.

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I cannot argue with the Terminator.

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I've only had one good reuben in my life. It was St. Patty's day at a house party. I hadn't even started drinking yet, just walked in the door and someone I'd never met before and would never see again was making them. Handed me one fresh off the griddle. Spectacular. Have never enjoyed one since.

2 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Reubens are an old man sandwich! I'll take a Rachel though. And my vote for best sandwich is Cubano

2 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

See, a Reuben is best, because the whole is better than the sum of the individuals. The ingredients of a Rachel, and even the Cubano are top notch stand alone on their own.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Omg friggin preach

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thin sliced reuben. I got a reuben that was too thing and ended up pulling out a hunk of meat from the sandwich. Corned beef is dry cured assholes! You can't bite through a quarter inch of meat!

Now this gets interesting, what about a reuben cheesesteak?

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, gotta be thin deli sliced corned beef. And corned beef is not that great on its own. Still good. However, this is my entire justification that the Reuben is the greatest sandwich. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Individually all the ingredients are ok. Together, pure heaven.

Cheese steaks are good. But there is entirely too much variety in them to top the list IMO. Everywhere you go, the cheese steak is different. All good, but that all knocks it down a notch.

French Dip

2 weeks ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

A good sandwich, third place in my book, after the Cubano

2 weeks ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

hot take, a cubano isn't even the best cuban sandwich. Pan con Bistec, Pan con Lechon, Croquetta preparada, Media Noche, then a cubano

2 weeks ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Hot take I need to try more Cuban sandwiches

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have not tried those! Now I want too!

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

also unless you have a Cuban sandwich on Cuban bread which is rare outside of a Cuban restaurant what you've eaten is closer to a media noche, americans trying to replicate it use softer breads which is the main difference between a media noche and a cubano

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Next you're gonna tell me French dips aren't even French
