It is not biodegradable, it is degradable. It will not naturally breakdown. Instead you need to introduce heat to help it degrade.

3/ Most of the face shield frames and other medical things perms are printing right now are PLA. It's literally going to war right now
PLA can print without a heated surface to adhere to, so it's great for lower cost printers as well as a good material for general printing.
2/ if you see a neat 3D printed thing on a shelf, 95% of the time it's PLA. That said, it is strong enough for a lot of applications.
4/ and saving lives.

1kg spool lasts a long time since when you print stuff, it's mostly hollow. You can change that in settings.

If you have the money, a Prusa MK3S is great. Go for the kit version and you’ll know how to tweak and fix anything that may go wrong.

Honestly the lead time even in normal circumstances is rather long, kinda annoying.
It's up and down, yes. I got a MK3 right around when the lead time was dropping. Now they've got some production capacity and personnel
devoted to making face shields. And I bet there was heavy demand for the Mini.

You can always upgrade parts. All metal hot ends are usually things to look into, but I'd get it first and learn the basics.

I just bought an Ender 3 two weeks ago and it worked out of the box with no upgrades and the ones i did make were purely cosmetic.
The ender 3 is really the best budget 3d printer around.
