Why don't people just not go to college if they can't afford It? You can always go later and you don't need it to make good money.

not impossible, in 2008 some forclosures were nixed and the people given the deeds because in all the selling of debt the bank lost it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

doesn't the bible say something about wanting something because other people have it?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was going to say the same thing, though I wouldn't have expected you to say it first, Mr.-I-broke-the-8th-commandment-in-my-username.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or, you know, don't go to a school you can't afford in the first place.

8 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 140

It is possible to have a well paying job and be paying off your loans but still wish they were forgiven; you could invest that money.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

You're adorable. Never change

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Ah yes, because 18 year olds make reasonable decisions while being pressured into an education they might not need.

8 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 1

Shit, if we couldn't pressure 18 year olds to join the Army we would never have been able to invade the mideast.

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Careful man, the hive mind! Lots of ne'er-do-well college grads on here.

8 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 74

Who apperently don't understand you have to pack back money you borrow

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 56

*apparently. Lernt how two spel that word rite in collige.

Sarcasm?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Butthurt libtards are downvoting you.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 67

I’m a registered republican and even I know this comment and yours are bullshit deflections in order to shift blame somewhere else

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I am also a registered Republican and I know it's pretty easy to simply not go to college. It's not a requirement to make good money.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

When more and more people are quitting and wages are being driven down (Reuters), college degrees are needed to build a life in some states

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I can't afford any school. And I won't be able to, until I finish my fucking degree

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Then consider a trade guild. The Electrician's Guild in the US, for example, is always looking for apprentices.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

I did, thank you :) I decided against trade school at the time and went with the debt lol. But the bigger issue is that it is so MUCH debt

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Which is why you should never go for the debt. I mean, the deed's done, but it was a foolish choice. Debt should only be used for

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

tangibles that can be surrendered, never for something you can't surrender (customized items, etc) or intangibles.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Wait what? -everyone that has student loans

8 years ago | Likes 122 Dislikes 3

So ...everyone?

8 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 3

No because America isn’t the only country in the world.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nope, only the 98% that have to borrow money to pursue a better life. Not everyone has to bust their ass to succeed.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 5

You’re right. I’m not having to borrow money because I joined the Army so obviously I’m not busting my ass

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Like for example here in Canada, a good college is 4k per semester. ~6k for out-of-country students. You should come here.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Your government won't let us. :(

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

yeah because everyone can afford college

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

jokes on you i dropped out [sobbing]

8 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Me too....me....too...????

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

congrats!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That doesn't mean you don't owe money for the first few semesters...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Your loans will stand as is unless you learn to crop.

8 years ago | Likes 428 Dislikes 6

I grew a whole field of crops but they still keep asking me for money.

8 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

They’ll get worse, he’ll have to go back for his minor in cropping.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Did everyone seriously miss the joke or is somehow everyone in on this?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I missed it . I want my school loans to disappear.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Convincing everyone they need a college degree was the worst fucking piece of advice ever, it’s going to be the next economic bubble pop.

8 years ago | Likes 63 Dislikes 5

The intention was good but then when investing to handle more people someone realized all the money to be made from charging people for a

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thinking shit degrees would get you jobs is the problem. Fuck, they added Arts to STEM (STEAM) to appease these retards and give them hope.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Grinds my gears

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As someone who went from studying liberal arts, followed by social sciences, and finally programming: fuck arts in the ass.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Interesting idea, would you be please explain your reasoning?

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Because there are jobs that make 100k+ that don’t require college and people go and waste time and money getting a degree?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Too many degrees not enough jobs at the end meanwhile the trades industry has a vacuum of apprentices and workers

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

While that's certainly an issue, the housing bubble was caused by banking industries lying about the quality of housing loans.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This caused people to think everything was fine and continue to invest in an industry which was doomed to crash and hard.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Society will always need doctors, lawyers and business executives. The same is true for houses but I don't see how student loans can cause

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Too many people with degrees they don't need, owing tens/hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Government. With ever diminishing 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

values of income owing to pay rises not even closely tracking inflation rates, the whole system will just become bloated and unworkable 2/3

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

with folks defaulting on debts their degree will just never pay off. And even if the Gov. is happy to write off those debts, 3/4

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

it's still billions per year going down a drain. Added to this are the worthless degrees that make it harder to get graduate jobs. 4/4

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I think I'm the only one who worked their way through college, got out with zero debt, and three degrees.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 9

Not easy to do, but definitely not impossible either. My student loans are under half of what they would be had I not worked through college

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Cheers!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In uk student loan payments come out of our wages once we are earning a certain amount.

8 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 4

In Ireland we've free education. So glad I didn't have to leave uni in debt.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

In Denmark we receive money for studying. But when we get a job we pay (as a standard, it can be more) 38% of the income in taxes

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Rub it in, why don’t you

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Something like 35K/Year right?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It used to be 21k till very recently but it might have changed, and it's only a percentage OVER that you have to pay. Not of the whole thing

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ah, fair enough.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is the absolute best system. You're making, you're paying. Virtually impossible to corrupt so you'll never see it in North America.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In the US gov’t ed loans have an Income Based Repayment system. You make $0 you pay $0, it’s private loans that screw ya.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And if you’re in public service you can (in theory) get your loans discharged after paying for a while. If DeVos doesn’t kill the program.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep, those 120 cumulative payments at an eligible non-profit. If you do IBR and PSLF you could only have to pay back 75% of your actual loan

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Where do you get 75% from? I’m not going to get anywhere near that, based on the math I did with financial aid before I graduated.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fair enough however my point is compare the two systems and the US relies on the private loan system whereas the UK and Ausie don't.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Same down-under, quite generous too I think if I were to die before paying off the loans it doesn’t get passed on to any of my family.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

...debts don't ever pass to your family

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No loan will never be passed on to family. Your estate will pay it, if there isn't enough money to cover it, it will be cancelled

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The purpose is to identify low paying jobs that require education, andmaivrhow to address or subsidize the industry to provide competitive
