I lived next to a family of immigrants from China when I was in high school and they made the BEST food. My family would make baked stuff for them and they'd always bring over extra hot pots, stews, noodle dishes, the works! Their kid always beat my ass at basketball though lol. Dude had a mad shooting game. Their aunt (she was older) taught me how to appreciate teas and taught me mahjong!
I hope they're doing okay, I never had contact with them after we moved.

I grew up in the 80s in an ag town. Nobody, not even the ardent racists, gave a damn about people's immigration status. The paperwork was rightly viewed as a pointless formality, because the people who came here to live and work benefited the community in a big way. Folks would drop racial slurs in private, but in public it was "Jose is a damn good worker."

I once watched some video were a snob was shitting on snickers salad like, my guy its literally just snickers, green apples and cheap cream. God the lengths some people go to just outright refuse something because they worked in restaurants or went to culinary school and they just come to the table super preconceived. Like I don't know what to tell ya, it's not tiramisu. What it is is a pretty satisfying, nostalgic dessert you can make in literally 20 seconds and cheap as a birthday suit
