Once had a friend that believed in all the ghost hunting equipment and she got really mad when I'd ask her how they verified all that equipment worked. Like is there a certified standard ghost in some lab somewhere they use to calibrate and test their equipment? Otherwise you're just guessing at your equipment and methodologies.
Yeah I mean you can make gear that detects changes in EM fields, etc, but we're practically bathed in radio waves and EM fields so the source of it could be anything
Apparently Huey Lewis was asked to do the composing for the movie's theme, but couldn't do it because he was busy doing music for Back to the Future. Which is a bit like missing out on hanging out with Karl Urban because you were on a date with Ana de Armas
Damn I want the alternate timeline theme song of Huey Lewis's Ghostbusters. Power of Love/Ghostbusters mashup would be not bad, actually. Power of Bustin'
He had a great part in Heavy Metal. It's okay, man. If there's one thing I know, it's how to drive when I'm stoned. It's like you know your perspective's fucked so you just gotta let your hands work the controls as if you're straight.
One of my favorite franchise; I just wish they could have made GB the video game into the 3rd movie as intended. Really worth playing for those who haven't btw; it was written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, plus the original cast lent their voices and likeness.
Yup. There’s a couple different copies floating around out there. One I know is a sourcebook for a Ghostbusters RPG, and the other is a coffee table reference book (but I think it only covers the movies’ ghosts, no Original, Animated, Comic, or Video Game spectres).
They have a great open house once a year. If you like spacy/sciency stuff I highly recommend a visit. (I hope that this is still true. It's been years since I've been and a lot of right wing anti-science has happened in the meantime.)
It was renamed for John Glenn, because it's in Ohio and John Glenn is from Ohio. My dad also did some research work on the Stealth Fighter, back in like 1978 or something. That only lasted about six weeks. Ronald Reagan was always threatening to close this facility. https://www.nasa.gov/glenn/
I tried to think of the most harmless thing. Something I loved from my childhood. Something that could never, ever possibly destroy us: Mr. Stay Puft...
Honestly I doubt not deciding would have worked. I mean eventually one of them would have thought of something. Or Gozer would have simply decided for them. I doubt you can easily trick a god.
The best argument I've heard about ghosts not existing (especially to the point they can "haunt" or hurt people etc) is that their wouldn't be a white person who could sleep at night.
One of my favorite moments, generally in life hah, was standing in line for Chow on my ship while in the Navy. 300+ sailors run the ship, 700+ marines ride the bus. So we're in line, my buddy and I, and some young marine kids ask us if the ship is haunted. It was the USS New York, had a lot of stuff (including steel it was built with) from the wreckage of the towers. They asked so eagerly and a bunch turned to look at the response my buddy just leans forward and says "No, cause ghosts aren't -
real you fucking morons" and he gets back in line. (the line was so long it was wrapping around so we're on other sides of the bulkhead) all these YOUNG ass kids probably talking all the time about it being haunted and then they reached out and my buddy was capable as few are to cut you with sarcasm. The whole line got quiet, he hurt their souls haha if those existed.
This is not true - ghosts are real, because everyone knew what you were talking about when you made that statement. Manifestations caused by dead people aren't real, but ghosts, warp drive, 'the space of a minute', Bigfoot, and true love are all real because we know what people are talking about when they say that.
Language, contrary to Wittgenstein, does not need something to exist to have a word for it. The presence of a concept is not the reality of that concept.

It predates NASA, in fact! It's a joint venture between NASA and Caltech. I'm a former JPLer myself, did five years there working on MSL.

Wait does vacuum "exist"? [Wanders off into a German coffee shop...]
