My dog hears it, but since it's out of sight and can't be found outside, it doesn't exist. She ignores them for the most part, stands and boofs but gives up quick

I had a dachshund that went deaf. What made us realize that was that he didn’t come running when any mentioned that is was dinner time, treat, or pill (a treat with medicine) time. He thought with his stomach and rarely came running when his name was called.

We have cordless blinds that you can just push up, my pup figured out that he can open them with his nose years ago, he watched the big show last night wagging his tail

My dog just doesn't care about fireworks he can hear a pin drop outside the front gate though, what I did was take him for a lot of walks on NYE and bonfire night as a young dog... conversely growing up we would make a big fuss, keep her in, set up a bed under the stairs for our dog and I think maybe inadvertently conditioned her to think there was a reason to be scared (until she went deaf and stopped caring)

Unfortunately our 12yo Lab can hear a pin drop at 100 yards and was having a panic attack all evening. The fact that there were still explosions going off at 2am did not help.

Yeah, that happened to my old girl. It was awful that her eyesight also started going at the same time so she was doubly handicapped. Poor thing was surprised constantly because she couldn’t hear any of us walking around, and her habit of lying or sitting in the middle of hallways really came back to haunt her

Same with our old puppers. He used to be terrified, but this year he just chilled on the couch.

Use intuitive hand signals to help guide her. Holding down your open palm facing towards her as a "come" command, for example. She will start watching you for more cues now so take advantage of the adaptation

In his later years, my cat had definitely gone deaf. I realized it once I was following him with the running vacuum and he wasn't reacting at all. In a way, I feel like it's a small blessing- they don't seem to care overly much, and its one less source of stress.

Happily this year there were FAR less fireworks than previous years. Between what I have heard from neighbors and work colleagues, the mixture of inflation and not seeing any reason to celebrate may account for that. My doggos and cats are quite thankful for that!

Lucky. My neighbour served in 'Nam and every year he holds a reinactment. I had a 0300 shift. Dead on my damn feet today, ugh.
He's a great neighbour 363 days of the year, but the 4th and NYE he is blowing shit up till dawn. So, we let him, no changing old guy's minds and no need to harass him for his one really annoying habit when it's pretty infrequent. I'll just have to use my brain next year and take the 5th off work!

Ouch. But I’d do the same as you. Having good neighbors is a blessing. I have had horrible neighbors and my current ones are lovely. The odd leave blowing at 6 am on a Saturday but I won’t rock that boat. Hope you can get some rest tonight!

My puppy hasn’t reacted either (his first fireworks ever!) but he can hear the sound of kibble dropping into a metal bowl, so I think he’s just chill.

Got my dog 3 years ago in June he was outside with me everyday during summer. He loves fireworks now

My dog is NOT chill, he can hear a thunderstorm 20 miles away and commence to tremble, but fireworks down the street? He snooze. Dogs are weird.

Elder pet advice. Stomp around. Hearing loss is not totally devastating. They adapt.

We stomp, open and shut cabinets, wave in his peripheral vision to get his attention. We also found that jiggling or lifting the side of his bed wakes him gently, as opposed to touching him and scaring him into next week. Took us a long time to know too, since he's been selectively deaf all his life.

My girl became much less anxious when she went deaf. She didn't worry about storms anymore or fireworks or gunshots or the pans in the kitchen clanging on their hooks. She learned hand signals very quickly. It was kind of a relief. Then she went def and we had to buy a lot of track suites and gold chains

It's true my cat is deaf, but she knows when I'm in the kitchen. Doesn't matter where in the house she was just poof and suddenly loud meowing.

Don't stomp if you live in an apartment building unless you wanna anger everyone and the people in the next building. I would recommend knocking against the floor when you wanna catch your dog's attention. That's slightly less awful than stomping if you have neighbours.
