Saw this post again, and I'm game. A personal act of rebellion, small maybe (especially considering how often I don't use these apps anyways), but I like it, and don't even have to leave my house. But, then, and maybe I'm just getting to that age ("old") but WTF?! Can't log out of Messenger from the app - had to do it through Meta/Facebook? Can't log out of WhatsApp app on my phone AT ALL - it's just not an option??!! Had to delete my account just to "log out". WTF?! /rant over

In today’s world, unless you’re employed and making good money by someone else, or rich already, the rest of us are dependent on what’s out there to find an audience for our work. Be at writing, art, or music. These are areas that require time and effort to get an audience/following . this is the reality of today’s creative Enterprises. The days of publishing houses discovering writers and new work and, putting a publicity machine behind it, are long gone.

The lucky ones sometimes get to a place where they can make a living from it. The days of when Stephen King became a powerhouse are long gone most publishing now except for the three big ones are small little indie publishers, and they use social media to find, and invite writers to projects.

Imma tell you the same thing I told Twitter users: slowly make the switch. Going cold turkey is not possible, it starting a presence on a better platform, informing your current and potential future clients that you want to make the switch and finally when you have the following you need on the other platform making the switch final.
Also, both Twitter and Facebook are largely populated by both bots and people who you probably really don't want to be your clients anyway.

Especially because I don’t have everyone’s numbers and android and apple devices are vert shitty at communicating images between each other. Facebook does own a VR property - they bought out Oculus, and are now making a line of Quest VR HMDs. They make good hardware, and given their competition's pricing, are probably taking a loss on sales.
I suspect they are doing this to lock users into a VR ecosystem in a bid to become the VR steam, where you can't play anything good unless you do it on their hardware and use their platform to buy it. They have funded a number of game studios with deals that they will be exclusives.

Use Facebook containers and other tools to avoid their tracking. Use unlock origin, use non-chromium browsers, use alternative search engines etc. Don't cede your data privacy protections just to use an app. There are absolutely ways to mitigate the privacy threat to you from apps and platforms. But just like with anything else you have to put in some work to do so.

I'm not sure you know how whatsapp works, but everything client side is run through the app. You must have the app running on an active device or no messages for you. And I don't want to run it on an emulator on my laptop or something dodgy like that because I am dependant on it to contact practically anyone in my life.

My point is that while you may not be able to limit WhatsApp specifically (although you absolutely can do full device DNS blocking), you absolutely can set up your device and other apps to protect you if you're going to continue to use WhatsApp. Using WhatsApp is not an excuse for not doing your due diligence to protect your privacy.
