The closest I've been to lightning is about 20 feet. I can't describe it adequately. You're hit everywhere, every hair stands on end, the air rushes past, and then, it's all different, the air feels, smells, and tastes different. I was in a tent, and I nearly pissed myself. In to morning, we walked over to the tree, a thick tall stout old pine, it looked like it exploded, bark and cambium everywhere, most of the limbs fell, in a perfect circle around it. Indescribable, these words fall short.

The guy watching TV was lucky. We had lightning hit a tree down the block from us and our TV was fried.

Ooooh a thunderstorm. I know, I'll hold an electrical device and talk to it. Nothing Bad's gonna happen.

That one at 0:46 was actually a wave motion gun.

Working in a new construction house running wires. It got struck with us in it and felt the buzz for about 15 minutes. Ears rang for days.

It must have been super loud. What a great bar story to tell though!

I love it when I'm no where near it, I'm to cowardly to dance in the lightning.

Did the lady near the end die?

There’s cool animals and rainbows…

I've been 50 feet of a strike in a forrest. You can feel the charge just before. It's a weird feeling. Just enough time to think, "huh, this feels weird..." BAM!

I think I saw that cat's skeleton.

"Fuck this tree here. Fuck that thing there. Fuck that person in the middle of the yard holding the umbrella..." -- Odin probably

Ages ago in summer i was in my appartment, window open and listening to the rain falling and the thunder coming when suddenly a lightning strike must have come down in my area, possibly into the church tower a couple of hundred meters away.

I have never heard such a loud bang in my life, i nearly fell out of the couch from shock.

Poor horses!

If I didn't know better, I would say that our planet was actively trying to kill us. We probably deserve it, upon reflection.

4 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

But leave the horses alone.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What a horrible day to have eyes.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can fix that, all you need is a melon baller. 🤔

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That was actually my street name growing up.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Damn nature! You scary!

4 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

You can really see why medieval people would be...."yup that's a higher power. I'll do whatever the priest tells me to do".

The second one was an intentional explosion and not lightning. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/lightning-striking-a-river/

4 months ago | Likes 431 Dislikes 1

Ah, thanks, I was wondering how the lightning was finding a better route to ground along the surface instead of down.

4 months ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 0

I wasn't. I just assumed it was bad ai lol

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And also the long consecutive linear chain of underwater explosions

Thank you, I was about to comment the same, but I wasn't aware of the Snopes article

4 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yes that was det cord and explosives.

4 months ago | Likes 112 Dislikes 0

yep, got half the thought of 'I've never seen lightning hit at that angle out' then the river exploded, and the thought collapsed on itself like it was wrapped in primacord

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

your FACE is det cord and explosives!

4 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

This is some odd insult that only worked in your head. 🤷🏽‍♂️

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 9

Your face only works in your head…. This seems obligatory

4 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

For the fishes.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did I just watch someone die? The one holding the umbrella.

4 months ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 1

Don't think so, I remember the clip itself, I thought it was longer, with no casualties

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If that was a direct strike (looks like It hit behind her) there is an approximately 90% survival rate. In my opinion it is quite unlikely you watched someone die.

Burns and permanent nerve damage still suck so try not to get struck by lighting.

4 months ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

And the last girl that was struck directly as well...a twofer post of death?

4 months ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

Did w see a horse die too?

4 months ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 3

No, the horses were fine :) and they got a treat later.

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

That said, lightning can travel along the surface of the ground with the strike. If it then goes up one leg and down the other on the animal it can travel through and stop their heart

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But these horses were okay though

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

And they got a treat. In the far away farm where it is always sunny and there is no lightning strikes like that.

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I played it frame by frame. She turns right and heads back, so it must have hit the tree behind her.

4 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Getting outside in a thunderstorm while holding a metal pole, what could go wrong? That's a prime Darwin Award candidate.

4 months ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 3

My neighbor was struck by lightning 3 different times in his life, cancer is what got him in the end.

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Should have played the lottery

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can't these people hold a damn camera steady! Yeesh!

4 months ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 9

If lightning hits that close to me, the camera is not at the top of my priority list.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wanna see you hold a camera steady when a bolt of lightning hits yards away from you. Lol

4 months ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

the Steadicams aren't insured for lightning damage, Mr. Kubrick

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1
