I only saw them in person for the first time like a year or so ago, and boy howdy when you don't know what they are at first they are frighteningly big wasps!

My favorite cicada killer wasp fun fact:
The females are very docile creatures that like to hang around but are exceedingly unlikely to sting you. Their stings are saved for cicadas and other foods.
The males are very aggressive and territorial and will fly up to you angrily. Unfortunately for them, the males also don't have stingers! It's all performative.

Males aggressively defend their perching areas on nesting sites against rival males, but they have no stinger. Although they appear to attack anything that moves near their territories, male cicada killers are actually investigating anything that might be a female cicada killer ready to mate. Such close inspection appears to many people to be an attack, but male and female cicada killers do not land on people with the intent to sting.
Males are just really DTF.

My initial reaction to "name a bird" is to immediately think of all the, you know, 'special birds'. The birds people watch for with their specific scientific / weird bird names. The "long necked brown breasted gobblers", "siberian invictus hyperionicos" or "Dark Wranglers" or whatever. I could easily momentarily forget that "oh... yeah... chickens are also technically "birds"" when thinking like that.
Also those birds that try to kill all austrailians every spring have to be the worst, right?

It's super cheerful and fun. Kitchen doesn't have to be grey or white or beige, but the misalignment hurts my head. those hinges aren't super easy to adjust like modern ones, but maybe a screwdriver and a little shimming under the hinges could help line things up better. unless like the posts are rotting out and wobbly. then it's a bigger job. You live your life though.

doesn’t just hurt your head buddy I gotta look at it everyday but they are particle board cabinets in a trailer built when Bush Senior was president … the whole set is on a lean and rotted so… until they can be replaced, this is what I’m doing. I’d rather cockeyed and cheerful vs cockeyed and tan
