Need some advice PLEASE!!!
We got married in the court house in May of this year, just the two of us were there. We wanted to have a big ceremony at a later time within the next year or two. We haven't told anyone! Both of our families are very against getting married "too quickly". Which to them means getting married within the first 4 years of any relationship. I have never been happier! We have a house together, two dogs and we each had a son when we got together from previous relationships. I think we are really worried about hurting feelings because no one was there and no one knew what we were doing! We're just not sure if we should wait to tell everyone when we actually have the wedding ceremony. Which would mean lying for at least a year or two. Or should we just go ahead and get it out in the open.
Our boys! ❤️
Dog tax...we don't have a cat I hope this will suffice. ????

Hey @OP. My anniversary is also May 13
ash1k1
You're probably better off just inviting everyone to a party/ceremony and saying the wedding was just you two
MyOtherCatIsAPokemon
Y'all seem awesome, if your families don't understand at least you have each other and your boys/dogs! Congrats @OP
EatMyTaco
Why not just have a nice reception with all the families? Tell them to come celebrate your marriage & don't let any drama get to you :)
shrimpconsieuer
I just got off the phone with your mom, young man. She is quite upset.
SirT
Have a 'wedding' on May 13th. After the ceremony, give a toast and announce that it's your 1 year anniversary
nunya00
My husband and I did the same thing 4 yrs ago. Tell them! They may not be happy at first, but they'll get over it eventually!
meloncanister
I didn't read this. I just know that your wife used to be a man. Cute childhood photo.

HelloIamPhilip
wait they have kids too. thats awsome
medici
You'll never end up having that party, we never did either. After awhile it just isn't that important. Tell your family and friends that..
medici
you eloped. Theyll be happy if you are happy. The secret will come out anyway so tell them now.
reesnaw5000
I lied to my parents and sister. They freaked out and never forgave me. Tell them asap or never.
Bombastik
Just tell them if you love them. This is your choice, not theirs.
AdmiralJamesTiberiusKirk
We eloped. She eventually told her parents to deal with it or live without her. My dad said, son, we'll miss you if you ever get divorced.

The average American wedding cost $26,000. A good pint is about $4. That's 6,500 pints. Choose wisely.
gizziethefurball
Share it with the people you love the way you want to. If they are upset they can deal with that themselves, be happy ! :)
cucumbersome
@op fuck the naysayers (not literally please) tell em the truth and say you'll have a big party in a year or two!
TextWampa
You're adults. You made your bed, now lie in it. But don't let anyone make you lie on nails. I repeat: you are adults.
TheRicM
@OP what would you want your daughter or son to do
SherMattLockSmith
"We haven't told anyone" POST IT ON THE INTERNET!!
iamthisguy247
Best way to keep a secret? Post it online and make sure to include a picture of yourself.
Gandalfsuglybrother
No, no, no! Do not lie. Tell everyone right now. You cannot maintain that forever and when you slip it'll be that much worse.
dontaskmeimjustagirl
Why lie? Have a long and happy marriage, and people can stuff their opinions.
ThroughTheFireAndTheFlamesOnExpert
This, don't care what people think, not even your family.
WHYYOUDIDTHISTOYOURSELF
As someone who deals with family having high expectations, I get being worried about telling them. Honestly though it's your life. 1/2
WHYYOUDIDTHISTOYOURSELF
If your family loves you then they will accept your decisions. That being said if you aren't ready to tell them then wait till you are 2/3
WHYYOUDIDTHISTOYOURSELF
Ready. You aren't lying to them if you're biding your time until it's right. 3/3
TraitorousTrump3
Also, do it for the boys. They need that way more than the grandparents do.

Are you completely sure that nobody in your family is on Imgur?

And now they know your username
MacGyverofAnxiety
Not sure how to break the news?! Posting about it online, with pictures, should do the trick!
TubaBandito
Perhaps a cunning plot to reveal the marriage?
fearsonfire
Perhaps! ????

Well in stone age Europe your life expectancy would be 20-35 years you'd have had 10 children and each be dead now/soon so tell them that.
CottonCandiJenni
Traditional marriage!
Rivalyn
At least six of those kids would have died though.
