My sister had an Aussie that imprinted closely on her kid. He was one of those little kids that you have to put a leash on because he ran off any chance he got. That dog qould run after him and gently herd him back to safety. Her name was Mousy and she was awesome.

I have literally just adopted one (yesterday) from the humane society. He had been left in a neighborhood with a collar and leash… no ID. He’s approx. 3.5-4.5 years they say. They spayed him today. Poor thing doesn’t know if he’s coming or going. I really love him already… but he doesn’t seem to want to share the house with my other two dogs. He is such a good boy in so many ways. Will he ever calm down and hang with my dogs?

My brother has a staffy X everything else who is made of pure energy, we never found another dog that could match her at play time they would either tire or not keep up. Until we let her and a friend's heeler off the lead at the same time the two sprinted 5 or 6 laps of a large field and became best friends. My brother's dog had never got to be the chaser before

I kinda always wanted a sheep farm. If I start to farm sheep Ill get an Aussie. But I kinda need to farm mountain goats. The sheep would fall down my hilly land and not get back up. Guess mountain goats probably don't take to being herded as well. Could be funny, could be a bloodbath in the barnyard. Hmmmmm.

Sheep have 0 sense of self-preservation, and like cattle when they give birth they try to get as far away from the barn as sheepily possible. You can't drive sheep unless you can get the flock to follow a path (or you have a trained sheep dog) but you can draw them using treats, mine loved cheap vanilla wafers. Goats are very hard to keep in an enclosure, so if you have any angled cross-braces they WILL climb it and get out. They're also mischievous so be prepared for horned shenanigans.

This is good advice. We do actually have 15ac of hilly pasture that we bought from a local dairy cheap because it was too steep for cows (with a few flatter possible building sites). But we'll probably never farm or ranch on it except to maybe get it back into good, saleable hay. Someday, after we find money to build on it. Now it's just getting brushed up bad, but a Cat with an auger attachment can turn that back into a field real quick.

THIS. We have to take our heeler/ boarder collie on a run every day. Not a walk around the neighborhood, a RUN. He either pulls my husband on his longboard or I bike with him 5+ miles. We play fetch for an hour and it’s still not enough. Crazy amounts of energy

A dog is not an accessory or employee they are pets you have to care for that means understanding and meeting the dogs needs you can more than tire them out with training and generally keeping control while you're doing things. It's important to remember they are physically very strong so you have to use puzzles to *deplete* their energy meaningfully

They WILL NOT tire physically as they seem to not FEEL fatigue until they're overtired and then that's a whole other set of problems

My sister takes them on off-leash runs in forests, also swimming and various dog sports, and they're still nuts sometimes. They'd be terrible dogs for someone who wants to treat them like golden retrievers. They have energy and a need for speed!

Because they're bred to do it every day; they need daily exercise and enrichment. Like I said, keeping them occupied properly is a full time job.

Especially the teething phase. Mine ruined so much of my good clothes and work wear. It was an issue. The scars on my arms, the refusal to kennel, the bulldozing you wherever you walk. They're so much work.

Picked up a "collie" puppy from a litter that was dropped off by a "purebred collie breeder", saying momma got knocked up by a random dog. Did a genetic test, no border collie at all, but mostly australian cattle dog lol. She is, indeed, a spazzy and energetic demon, whom I love to death
