LOL orange turd is so delusional he had more than two insane demands and expected them to be met; nothing like holding no cards in every deal and thus, losing every “negotiation” he has ever dealt with
Once again, he's delusional and thinks he's king of the world and can dictate policy in other country's, If I were Canada I'd cut diplomatic ties and close the border, he's getting really unhinged.
As a US citizen, these demands are an insanely insulting affront to Canada as an independent nation. Why not just demand that Trump gets to appoint their Premier and be done with it?!? I hope Carney tells us to shove those demands up the orange pedo’s ass.
He and his regime far too incompetent for that. They haveran up too much debt, and broken too many pieces to have a stable government and economic base to work from. Then wasted too much armaments on a failed war they still haven't won...
Don't get me wrong, they are arrogant enough to want to, but their stupidity keeps shooting themselves in the foot.
He thinks he does. He mistakes the U.S's position, developed over decades getting the world to invest in U.S interests as submission. He can't contemplate relationships in other way but whom fucks who - and like the impetus that has ended many an imperial power he's over-extended the U.S's position from hubris. He cannot build or add to anything that he isn't given or stolen. And he's too stupid to disguise it. He didn't have to for dumb fuck U.S citizens.
Pretty typical of Trump's "negotiations", when a deal is done, pull out changes that benefit him and force their hand. Canada just said "Fuck You then"
I've never seen a faster way to get Quebec to side with the rest of Canada on anything, than the bullshit the US negotiating team tried pulling on Saturday.
It can affect the compliance of US goods imported into Canada. They want US companies to be able to export products to all of Canada, including Quebec, without providing compliant French-language labelling. It's still bullshit, but it's about trade.
That's what all the current US states are to them, why not prepare the places they want to grab fall in line pre-emptively? Surely everyone will fall all over themselves to become a vassal to king drumpf. Just like the Ukranian people were totally going to celebrate their russian liberators, eh?
Trump can go f*ck himself with a rusty pitchfork but he wasn't demanding Canada couldn't trade with anyone else. Just that Canada didn't have any free trade deals of its own and followed the US trade rules. In effect it is the same as any EU state like France or Germany that cannot sign their own free trade deals and has to obey the EU trade rules. The only difference is at least they get some say when those rules are made.
An important point - EU member states, in exchange for giving up their right to make their own external trade deals, get unrestricted free trade with other EU member states. This deal, as proposed, would have meant Canada giving that up and yet still having a 25% tariff applied on virtually all trade with the US. So Canadian goods and businesses would still be at a severe disadvantage compared to all 50 states. Vassal state, indeed.
It categorically wasn't Trump. He doesn't know what half those words mean, and if he did he'd fall asleep while trying to pronounce them. Since when has Trump ever even acknowledged the existence of something as subtle as linguistic policies in Quebec?
The problem is that rump can only think in terms of "business," but international trade requires flexibility that doesnt align with traditional business ideas and rump has no concept of how to effectively run a business, because someone always bailed him out when he fucked up every business.
The Federal government literally isn't able to deliver on some of those demands. Either the US negotiators wanted the deal to fail or they are utterly unqualified morons. (or possibly both)
Well that too, but Carney could deliver on that if for some reason he wanted to. He can't force provinces LDBs to bend to his whim though, they choose what alcohol to stock, the Federal government has nothing to do with it. Likewise French language laws in Quebec are provincial, Fed can't touch them.
RoamingEast
yeah, no brainer for Canada to say stuff that.
Centroid
Fucking up the Canadian relationship might be the #1 dumbest thing they’ve done next to this Iran disaster.
lightfoot2
Gee the US didn't mention these. I wonder why.
madmax17
THese are some nazi demands, truly shocking. I would tear the paper up in front of the Americans.
AmaraDela
He made us toothless. At this point Great Britain could reclaim the colonies and we'd not only welcome it, we'd help them.

For fucking real. I’d move back to New England in a heartbeat if the UK took it back.

Change French-language rules in Quebec? Pourquoi?
Clockworkdancerobot
Almost like It was designed to be refused. Totally unreasonable demands.

The reduction of the de minimus is a direct tax on regular people.

Or at least start with getting Hoekstra declared persona non-grata and kicked out of the country.
HolyFreakingToast
what are these demands - that is absolutely ridiculous!
DaisyfromDownunder
Simply reverse these and send them back for Trump to choke on. He won't like that.
mothmam

Farreg
A lot of these are ridiculous to ask of a sovereign nation.
ButtblasterMcAssmaster
Austria-Hungary's demands of Serbia in 1914 were less domineering than that....
c0i9z2
Forget cumulative, most of these are completely unreasonable!
alcamar
Complete capitulation or you are being unreasonable. This guy is really going to try to rule the entire world

Every time some mainstream corpo "news" jockey uses this phrase when referencing trump's "negotiations" I wanna throw rotten tomatoes.

Oh. So, the demands were prep to become the 51st state.
Otherwise who the fuck would care about French language rules in Quebec or Canadian cultural content in Canada?

StevenAlleyn
Honestly the French language stuff would guarantee a Canadian breakup, and a bunch of the asks were straight up unconstitutional
IgnisInvictus
It's why they were asked. He wasn't trying to "make a deal" he was trying to see if Canada would roll over.
Thankfully, they didn't. I know what side I'm on if it comes up a batshit crazy war.
mrthewhitee
US territory, not state. They'll never allow Canadians to have that kind of voting power.
Hexidimentional
look at the reaction to mamdani, what do you think 30 million more socialists would do
Hexidimentional
Alternatively, any prime minister that allowed that particular demand would be immediately lynched by the bloc quebequois
foolkiller333
They would be lynched by most of us. Capitulating to the US on anything now as a Canadian politician is suicide.

Can we get a legit source for that list, please?

Carney said no. And I don’t think there was any other realistic option. I think we have the right leader.
StunttheRunt
That first one is ridiculous and almost as of he wanted the negotiations to fail.
"You can't trade with anyone else", what kind of trade deal is that. Who in their right mind would even consider agreeing to that. No one that's who.
To the downfall of Chump and his ilk. Elbows up.
kraeftig
What is this elbows up thing i keep seeing it and I dont know what it means, can you explain it to me? Please?
StunttheRunt
Hockey reference. Predominantly from Gordie Howe and how one keeps your elbows up to deter an opponent from hitting you, taking away your puck, etc.
madmax17
It's like they want a slave state.
