I don't know why people hate this stage. It was always easy for me. Now jumping the gap to get to the roof of the building before this stage is rage inducing.
This and the BattleToads level...fuuuuuuck me those sucked. This entire game was pretty tough. Redownloaded it on PS5 and only lasted like 5 min before shutting it back off.
They nerfed the seaweed. Should do damage equal to the attacker's toughness -1. Even if you survived that level, most of the time a stiff breeze would finish the job after.
I owned this game back in the day and if you know the route, it's not hard to beat taking zero or almost zero damage. Now, the technodrome? That was some bullshit. Battletoads- I could beat the speeder level but not the rest of the game.
Once you got the pattern down, it really wasn't that bad. Honestly the only part of this game that was absolutely insane, was the crazy jump you had to do to get the grappling hooks. After that, the whole thing was pretty repetitive (inside the technodrome was a bit of a maze)
Zelda taught us to map out places with graph paper (we had to make the graph paper from college rule because mom was unsympathetic to the cause.) I'm sure if I could find my old technodrome maps there would still be some unexplored areas, as there's no way I was going back after I knew how to get to Shredder.
This level isn't that difficult, just switch turtles when they get low. Its not even close to being the hardest level. The airport and technodrome are much harder.
It's perfectly possible. There was only one place where u HAD to take a hit, the rest u could do close to perfect and take maybe one or two more total.
Could never beat the game as a kid, did pass this level but would then lose the game once I got to the overworld car area. Came back to it 20 years later and was finally able to beat the game!
It's not even hard. But everything about the underwater section stresses you out and you mess up moving in a straight line. Turn the music off and cover up the timer and it's easier than the Technodrome.
Emulator ofc. I've seen it on a weird ass janky knock off called a Terminator 2, but I didn't speak English at that point and couldn't figure out what we were supposed to do to even beat level 1. I was also 8. I re-played it after completing Dark Souls 3 if not Sekiro(can't remember, I go on a retro binge whenever I'm done with Miyazaki's offerings or I can't enjoy anything that isn't Souls-hard), so I was wise to games trying to put the pressure on me.
Yeah, the range of attacks was the only thing that really mattered and his was the shortest. But as a kid 10 something that just meant I avoided using him, not that it mattered in this stage...
Basically each turtle counted as one life, so 4 in total. I do think the system was cool for its time though, it remembered the health of each one separately and I think you could switch at any point.
Yep, if you were careful, and judicious in your use of Donnie, you could keep everyone alive to the end by abusing pizzas that were located near exits. You also needed (read: it was strongly-recommended that you stocked up on) scrolls. I say "you," because I sure can't do it. Either my old-ass reflexes are a LOT worse than they were (they are), or the Cowabunga Collection had terrible input-lag.
Oh, boy. Do I have video have music that does that too me, too. As much as I love the underwater ambiance from Donkey Kong Country, I swear my heart beat speeds up when I hear it.
I played this level hundreds of times, all failures. Never made it past. NEVER in my childhood would I have figured out that you're supposed to sacrifice turtles to advance in certain places.
TheFastpaws
People have went over it and it was programmed poorly. Such as hitboxes not matching the visuals. The level is a mess.
Cranbananarama
Someone made a meme game of it: https://store.steampowered.com/app/434970/That_Dam_Level_redux/
cenfou2tout
That game is like...

Ah right the dam level.
rbudrick
I owned this game. I regularly got through this level only getting hit 2-3 times. Never 0, but it wasn't that bad.
MyspiritanimalisJohnZoidberg
Same.
Rufferstuff
chingadamadrex
I can already tell this is a failure run…. I saw at least 2 mistakes.

Having the opportunity to replay it recently, I can say with confidence that I hate it as an adult, too!
YippeeKayakOB
Games were insanely difficult back then. Nowadays, I just play for the adventure on easiest level.

Loved that game! Still do!

The irony of how we wouldn’t have had an oil dependency if we hadn’t voted in the fascists in the first place stings so badly

1:09 on bomb #4. Ralph ain't gonna make it.

That's, uh... that's 1:03.

IYKYK.

fuck that level so much

I'm glad that I no longer work in the planning & scheduling department of an oil company in the Gulf. It would be a nightmare right now.

MyspiritanimalisJohnZoidberg
Yeah, I had the game and this was far from difficult once you got it down. Gave up on the technodrome.
Keitterman

Sooo much pizza farming

Fuck you, Lassannn
Photeus
Let's all be honest with ourselves: this level, sonic drowning, Blitzball, SMB3 World 3...
Damn, water in video games sucks.
Imapancakenom
Water Temple in Ocarina of Time.... such a huge pain in the ass
JadeNB1729
Wasn't there a bastard of a BattleFrogs level, too? I forget which one.
Photeus
Yeah but that game is just an exercise in brutality to oneself
Lexgeddon
I think it was level 3 that was the first crucible. Scooters, walls to go around or over, and VERY unforgiving timing.
JadeNB1729
That sounds like what I'm remembering.
IgnisInvictus
Everyone hated that level. I'm not convinced it's possible to pass that level.

The hit box is misaligned with the graphics, depending on the direction you are moving.

I've seen speed runners get through this with only a little trouble, and my envy started to flare up.
thoushaltnotpass
I did it on emulator because I could restart to start of level at no cost. On original NES it was nightmare
IgnisInvictus
Our mom rented this one, original NES, for one of the school days we were all puking and had to stay home.
You die, you start over from the beginning. Might have beat it once, died promptly in the next level and handed the controller over to a sibling.
DianNaoChong
After we got out the first time with a lot of tries, we didn't have problems after
TicoGuy
Could never beat the game as a kid, did pass this level but would then lose the game once I got to the overworld car area. Came back to it 20 years later and was finally able to beat the game!
aShogunNamedMarcus
I could beat this and the Battletoads speeder bike level but only after a LOT of practice
LuminoZero
Same here. Never beat either of those games on the NES, but got further than most people did back then.
CptRobotNinja
Jesus, save some pussy for the rest of us sir
NeoNeanderthal
It's not even hard. But everything about the underwater section stresses you out and you mess up moving in a straight line. Turn the music off and cover up the timer and it's easier than the Technodrome.

IgnisInvictus
Pffft. Try it on the original NES then tell me how easy it was to learn how to get through that level.
NeoNeanderthal
I have no interest in wasting money on "original hardware" that my phone outperforms, not to mention my PC. I don't even have a CRT TV anymore.
Radix865
It is, I did it. Then quickly died in the next level because I only had raph left.
Rubyrose99
Same but I always lost Raph and half of Mikey
IgnisInvictus
Wasn't Raph the least effective one in a fight?
Radix865
Yeah, the range of attacks was the only thing that really mattered and his was the shortest. But as a kid 10 something that just meant I avoided using him, not that it mattered in this stage...
vnqx
I couldn't remember how the lives worked, but yeah. Always died right after clearing it
Radix865

you just gave 80s kids a PTSD attack.
vizeroy42
I somehow liked this level. Wasn't even the hardest bit of the game.
selfishsarah
go sit in a corner and think about your statement
JaceTiger
That damn dam level
VidaVita
If the controllers weren't so damn light and TV glass so thick back then, I would've definitely smashed a couple TVs over this level.
Renza0
why was the seaweed electric?!

The horror. The horror.
Anaphriel
I unpacked my NES just so I could throw the controller across the room.
DemSumBigAssRidges
I played this level hundreds of times, all failures. Never made it past. NEVER in my childhood would I have figured out that you're supposed to sacrifice turtles to advance in certain places.
mak10z
jebus is THAT the strat you're supposed to use? Konami is run by the Shredder it seems
mynameistc
Not exactly. If you know the right route you dont have to sacrifice any of them.
