Huge check from my Dad!!!!

My father passed away October, 25th 2016 at the age of 75.
My father gave me this check on my seventh birthday.
I found it in a box of stuff and never knew I had it.

Happy Father's Day 2017

FP Edit: Yes I reposted this from the first time I found the check but it's my first Father's day without him. I regret nothing!

My mother worked for that bank in a different town about 40 years ago.

That's the most beautiful dad joke I've ever seen.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

aw...that's my bday

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Happy bday to come.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I feel like your Dad missed his ultimate joke by not naming you John, but Steven is good too.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Stuff like this is so helpful in coping. I have a dollar my grandfather lost on a bet with me in the envelope he mailed me.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My dad can't afford that.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I actually can't see, the tears are falling too fast, help

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

My dad's getting to be about 75. I didn't need this D':

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I feel that :(

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I grew up in 14621, Marine Midland is quite the throwback for me

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

With infation this check is worth at least tree fiddy

Aug 31 1990 is my bday too

How could anyone downvote this ?

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 13

People are mean

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 7

I usually downvote whenever I see a comment that says who would downvote this

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Same. "Don't tell me how to live my life!"

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 6

There may be a way to alter that check to like $100,000

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It will probably bounce

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'll give you $20 for it.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If my Dad had given me this, it'd bounce.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

If this stays popular long enough- I think you just predicted tomorrow's bad-dad joke!

August 31st? #highfivebirthdaybro

9 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

My birthday is October 25th, the day he died

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't mind us. Just a group of birthday besties. #highfivesallaround

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Never met an 8/31 baby before irl (besides myself). Glad to know there ARE others out there!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is the absolute perfect example of how to utilize a dad joke and show your love at the same time. What a champ.

9 years ago | Likes 2191 Dislikes 2

I like how the heart is carefully still a zero, just in case.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

While also being a cheapskate. Classic dad.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Gonna be sad if it bounces and costs him a $35 fee. "Your love is overdrawn".

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

This seems to be a much higher resolution than the others I've seen. +1

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thanks. I'm not op of it but you're welcome.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"... and you can take that to the bank!"

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You go to one of those check dashing places though and they take like ten percent of your father's love

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

I have literally never understood why those places even exist.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Convenience.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They let you write them a post-dated check (i.e. you get cash now, they cash the check in a week etc). Basically short term loans.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No you can't lmao.. If they took personal cheque they would be out of business from scammers. You can cash a post-dated certified cheque tho

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or a work or government cheque, but they will call to verify with employer.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Post dated personal checks are exactly what they'll do. They check you have a job and verify bank account 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I remember Marine Midland!

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Me too! I used to have an account!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

My Grandparents adopted me. Both of them died by the time I was 15. Their handwriting is the most precious thing. Their thoughts on paper.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Don't write checks your ass can't cash Daddy.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Your dad was 41 when you were born?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I dated a girl, dad was in his 70s when she was born. Her mom was like 25 and went on to become a lesbian after his death. Girl had baggage.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This was my first thought. I'm so thankful my mom had me young so barring unforeseen circumstances I'll have a lot of time with her.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm 46, and my son is celebrating his 1st birthday this month. It's pushed me to get back into shape more than anything else.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not too unbelievable. Mine was in his late 40s when I was born.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Kinda looks like a heart and not a zero. I think you were supposed to deposit it in your heart. Who gives their kids checks at 7 anyways.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 6

(It *IS* a heart. It was supposed to be cute.)

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I thought so myself, have a kitty.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My grandparents used to mail me checks when I was a little kid. Gift cards were uncommon in 1990 and you should never mail cash.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I was sent cash o_o

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My gran still sends us cheques in the post for birthdays and Christmas. Old people love cheques.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Tell that to my father, who sent me a $20 when it was time for my car's emissions test.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All of the comments about the last name are why, when I got married and changed my name, I was kina relieved. Having to spell Hancock (1)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

over the phone, etc. always went "yes..h-a-n...mmhmm c-o-c-k...." The cock part always needed to be repeated. Good times (2)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The struggle is real. Hamcock

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or Handcock

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I bet you can cash that outside, now how about that?

9 years ago | Likes 186 Dislikes 61

We have a winner here.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Huh! I got downvotes once for saying pretty much the same thing. I guess people don't like winners

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 0

Hahaha... also you're going to hell.

9 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Stop

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Well dates not right so the bank won't let you cash it

9 years ago | Likes 499 Dislikes 17

Too valuable, putting it back in the system now would crash the economy.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And I'm not sure they'd accept the "Dad" signature.

9 years ago | Likes 92 Dislikes 0

Well a signature can be anything afaik. Right? I thought

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You guys are horrible. +1

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

A signature can be anything you use consistently by law. Can sign "The Once and Future King" on everything and that would be legal.

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Being legal and being accepted by a bank are different.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Until the 90s they would accept anything as long as they had record that you signed like that every time. Now checks aren't common, so (1/2)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

you're probably right about banks not taking them now, but I honestly don't know. (2/2)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hypothetically if you did that would your actual name not be legal?

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Name and signature are not related legally. Laws were made when a lot of people couldn't read.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Most Somalis at my job sign X for their names on everything

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What is wrong with the date? "Aug 31 1990"

9 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 2

Try cashing a check dated over 25 years ago and see how far that gets you.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

It's probably the DOB of OP

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The check is stale dated. Generally anything over 6 months old is void.

9 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Date is correct, too old to cash. Irritated me a little too that that person claimed the date is wrong.

9 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

As a consumer / commercial banker / analyst, I got a little secret on this. For all intents and purposes, "stale dating" is gray area, 1/

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

and there is no legal regulation being voided when a stale dated item is negotiated. Rebate checks and the sort are the most frequent 2/

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

violated, not voided* :(

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

source of stale-dating. So that institutions do not get burned by random old arse checks being sneaked into ATMs and the sort, 3/

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Maybe they're foreign and are expecting the D/M/Y format?

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

This is the internet. The only foreigners are the ones crossing the border from 9gag and iFunny.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Well, I mean...the internet is always a strange and foreign place. So...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is anyone outside the US even using checks in day to day business anymore? Because I'm german and here it was outdated before I was born...

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Checks are kinda rare even in the US. It's mostly folks over a certain age that still use them. Mostly. Some yung'ins use them too.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks for the info, US is the only place I ever heard is still using them (even mailing them? seems kinda risky but idk)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yeah that was the mid90's in Iceland.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I am black and this is offensive!

Well so what? --Stephen Fry

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How can you take offense to a father showing his love for his son - I think that this is a person issue... completely irrational!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 8

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lol hes definitely not black, i've never met a black person. I've met a lot of brown people though...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 7

Term for actual black people is skillet black.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

As a black person, maybe definitely don't call us that. #PSA

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I know you're kidding and you're probably white, but I don't get it

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

why do they gotta be white rectangles? rectangles can be black too

Yes. It's the act of being negatively stereotyped.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 9

People can be niggardly which has nothing to do with the slur, but idiots jump to conclusions, so we can't use it anymore.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Haha, my comment was forcibly deleted, imgur doesn't like the n word. Be careful!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, my GF was called racist for referring to black Friday.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is that because it's a check ? Or you don't know your dad ?

I love me some good barbaric responses. Excellent!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Trying to understand.... Please clarify.... Why are you offended by a check from a young boy's father? #BLACKMOM

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

It's a joke. Because it's a sterotype that black father's aren't around and it upset him

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A father would have taught him to manage his feelings better.
