Capital punishment is actually MORE expensive than life imprisonment without parole bc of the inevitable appeals war—a war where the state must often finance BOTH sides bc many DR inmates (not Musk) are represented by PDs. Most appeals don’t last multiple decades except in CA. Besides, a lot of innocent folk were probably beheaded due to the lack of appeals. In any case, the Reign Of Terror caused the 1st Republic to be but an interregnum between one dictatorship (Loius XVI) and an a worse one (Napoleon).
