I wish my school had cool jocks. My school had the jocks that would fight over girls and weed, and hit you if you looked at them funny. Only people they were nice to was the special ed classroom, and only while teachers were around.

I want this in my life, but I'm the one with a face that says "I can and will kill you"

Could be real. But it reads so Disney my skeptical side is awakened

Shout out to all the dudes that got thought of while this was read!

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

This is 1000% something my brother would do, no joke. He has massive labrador energy.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is my husband. At first glance he makes queer folk a little nervous because he looks aggressively hetero, jock, football and wrestling, but he has the heart of a Labrador.

2 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

hes hip deep in any nearby body of muddy stinky water? or do you mean you bff if you give him 1 (one) cheese poof?

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

He can be hip deep in my muddy stinky water... If ya know what I mean....

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

probably both.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Yes.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

So the solution to the whole thing where guys can't talk to anybody about their feelings is to have a lesbian friend?

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It takes a village to raise a himbo right.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This post inspired me to make up a new word: "Jockward"

2 years ago | Likes 530 Dislikes 1

Joke*?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's a good word tbf! Lol

2 years ago | Likes 62 Dislikes 0

Solid word. Also, I've played competitive sports and anecdotally, the hot jock that everyone talks about has always been super insecure. The people who are cocky assholes are usually good high school athletes who wind up going to a mid-tier college and then being insufferable in the 30+ adult rec league.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

This honestly takes me back to the before times. To the long long ago. To the days when I didn't have the world's knowledge in my pocket behind a paywall. This takes me back to the playground.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Wow. You just invented a whole anime trope.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

and cue the fan art in 4 . . . 3 . . . 2 . .

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just FYI as a lifelong awkward jock, it's been a thing forever. I've known several too. It's been in media but it's not noticed or used as much as the asshole jock trope.

Someone needs to illustrate this.

Just a reminder: people seem to think Tumblr is dead or has lost relevance. It's actually still quite lively and there are a lot of cool people there. It's also very easy to block people like trumpers.

So, you know, if you want to hang out or whatever, come on over. A lot of cool people. A lot of art, a lot of people angry about all the bullshit, a lot of people talking about how great life is despite all the bullshit. It's quite nice

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is so frighin cute.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's what a lot of straight girls want too. Some of us just want a friend who happens to be a dude

2 years ago | Likes 63 Dislikes 1

Had so many female friends tell me how exhausting it is to be hit on all the time and not being able to trust a guys motivation, so I just stopped. It's so much nicer to just be friends with women without all the relationship drama. I think guys lose out on some really rewarding relationships being horny all the time.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

On the first day of college I randomly sat next to this girl and we became friends over the next few months. I thought she was pretty cute and was going to ask her out, but she probably picked up on that and told me that she's gay (lesbian). We continued to be good friends for many years until we moved away from each other and drifted apart. I still miss her friendship dearly. Also, it was awesome having a cute wing-girl in our crew at the bar and we could talk about which girls we both liked.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

As a straight guy I want lady friends too. I honestly haven't had a close one since pre Covid and I lost touch with some people. That's some good friendship right there

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Some straight, cis dudes genuinely want that too. Let me tell you, the programming to see most women as something to sleep with runs deep. It's like a religious indoctrination. Especially for us older gens (I'm X). I suspect it's because that's the only intimacy men were allowed (by themselves) to have for so long

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

It's actually pretty nice. I have several women that I'm just friends with, we talk, bullshit, send odd humor things back and forth, swap recipes, ect. One commissioned me to make lightsabers for her and her friend, with another I swap scones for biscotti when we see each other. It's entirely plutonic friendship, as I am devotedly loyal to my family, and is a lot easier than all the posturing found in guy friendships. A few of them I refer to as family members, because they are to me.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I love my little female friends. Too many guys are just sports sports sports caaaaars!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As an ace dude… wouldn’t mind being a male friend

2 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 2

It gets kinda awkward after a while if you don't set boundaries though. Speaking from experience, it can lead to some very awkward conversations if they get a crush on you and you just... Don't feel that way with people.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Pretty much all of the matchmaking services seem to be "Do you want to marry this person? [ ] Yes [ ] No" and I'm over here going, "Hell if I know. I just want a friend and we'll see a year down the road if it's more than that." And finding that seems to be nigh-on impossible.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Forgot to add: And if you check "No" because it's "Not right now," then it's all "okay bye" and they never talk to you again.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

A few of the dating apps have a friend search mode. Eg bumble.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is true, but even there, I looked into them a little and it's like, "Yeah, this is for 𝘧𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 and you're not supposed to be doing 'friends with a chance of maybe some romance somewhere down the line.'" Apparently I'm configured weird.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Hmm yeah I understand. The black and white distinction would be hard to navigate when it's not black and white.

I've found OKCupid to be tolerant to a broader spectrum of intent and preference. But that's in Europe, not sure where you are.

Still won't be perfect, but meeting new people through apps for any purpose is hard, time and energy consuming.

because he's tall?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I don't see it. I see an unreliable narrator projecting their own preconceptions onto this guy. "He's a jock, but he's nice... So of course he's a himbo!".

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 11

At no point anywhere does the tumblr poster even remotely suggest that the dude's a himbo, or project her own preconceptions on him. You're blind and, ironically, projecting.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

You're right, they didn't explicitly say himbo (although wholesome idiot is pretty damn close), but that wasn't the point of what I was getting at. I merely meant the narrator has clear preconceptions about what a "jock" is, be it a "dudebro", or whatever else. And they possibly in their own mind exaggerate the interactions they have with this guy from the viewpoint of "Oh, big scary jock isn't actually so big and scary...he's a loveable idiot!".

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It's very possible (even probable) I am reading too much into it, but these kinds of stories always irk me because people treat the world like it is made up of stock characters from a high school coming of age film.

Miraculous Ladybug, Kim i think his name was, but considering he has recurring bullied and pranked multiple characters in the show, so he seems like a bit too much of a asshole to be a Himbo.

Took me too long to realize that himbo is actually a good thing. I always thought it had negative connotations since it came from bimbo.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

“He’s a male bimbo, he’s a mimbo.. “ ?1

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It all depends on if you consider being a dumbass as a negative thing or not.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Big of heart, dumb of ass.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know two tall jockie really good looking guys. One is a total lying cheating thief that thinks talking up girls, getting them to have sex, and then ghost them is funny. The other who is actually taller and buffer and more attractive is the nicest guy you'll ever meet in your life. Just an absolute teddy bear of a man. Been with the same woman since 16. Masters in engineering. I used to hate jocks just out of stereotypes from HS, but the himbo can be very very good

2 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 0

How can you be a himbo and an engineer. A himbo is a he+bimbo

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Ok but I was told a himbo has to be stupid.

2 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Or at least niaeve or oblivious.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nope, intelligent people can be kind and a little silly sometimes.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

lemme tell you a thing or two about engineers....

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

A friend of mine is a teamleading engineer, and until two days ago thought that a Hamburger was a porkmeat version of a Burger, and also that Hamburg, DE, was named after the Hamburger because the citizens loved the food so much.

A diploma means shit.

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

Pretty common misconception. A degree is much more about your time and energy and tenacity and thereby becoming an expert in your field. If intelligence = degree then you'd just need an SAT and boom degree. A degree, especially a masters, means you worked under many leading experts in your field and they gave you a letter of recommendation. That would take decades if you didn't go to college. There's a very very good reason people with degrees make more than those without.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

haven't met a lot of engineers?

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'd argue "clueless" would be a better axis to chart the himbo on. At first glance, it can look very similar. But it's really not.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Intelligence vs wisdom.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

By definition, yes.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I believe if the guy hits the Trifecta of Strong, Kind, and Smart then they are a Hunk

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Elle Woods did not get a law degree from Harvard Law School, eventually scoring 179/180 on the bar exam, for you to suggest bimbos/himbos can't also be highly successful academically

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

According to the diagram, yes. If he isn't stupid, he's just a good man.

2 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

Isn’t that a hunk then? I thought chart said kind and stupid was just a good man.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

JFC at least one person got the reference. Thank you.

2 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

He's muscular and athletic, so the stupid is assumed, just not true in this case. And it vaguely makes sense because muscles take a lot of time to build, and so do brains. To do both at the same time is extra challenging.

That being said, yes I agree on your logic that both takes times and effort, but we have to be careful about overgeneralization.
