SPREAD THE DOOM!

Throwback to that time I found a resource editor for C&C RA2 and created a clone army of Albert Einsteins who could breath fire and launch SCUD missiles.

still waiting on the remaster

2 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 0

The CNC/RA remaster did so well, I'm hoping we get TS as well

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The 25th anniversary of TS is next year.

Frank Klepacki was 22 when he composed the 1996 Red Alert theme music, "Hell March" and it has lived in my head for all of the 27 years since

Watch his concert with Tiberium Sons on youtube. It's glorious.

Kirov Reporting!

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I got a laugh playing World of Warships yesterday when someone said "Kirov reporting...." in allchat and the whole match started getting nostalgic lol

Kirov reporting.

Holy shit, Renegade 2 would be so fuckin' baller.

Man the freedom in those games. No unit limit was a beautiful thing.

#14 The Statue is facing South-east, so the airships are coming from New Jersey, going to the Atlantic Ocean. ??

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

looking on Google Maps, there's an IKEA south east of the Statue of Liberty...

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well it's an alternate timeline so maybe in that one it faces the other direction (that's the best I git lol)

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Some pesky soldiers been camped in the middle of nowhere so they aren't easily defeated when their base are destroyed. The Soviets found them, and are now going to shove their entire arsenal on them

Maybe they went over the north pole and through Canada.

I really enjoyed Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge. Probably my favorite C&C game out of the ones I've played.

2 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

the Hollywood level in Yuri's Revenge was fun as we rescue Stallone and Arnie from Yuri's mind control doodads

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same and I’ve tried so hard to find how to get them now so I can replay them but it seems practically impossible :(

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I got you, friend :) check out the EA Origin store. Download the Origin launcher, and play away!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All C&C games is in the Command & Conquer Ultimate Collection in the EA store, if you want to give money to EA.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thank you, I finally have it again even though I did have to buy about 15 useless games with it - but that’s EA’s fault

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same! So frustrating!

ACHCHCKNOWLEDGE. CNC95 will always be my favorite as it's the first one I played as a kid, too much nostalgia. But both Red Alerts are phenomenal games too. Played through these campaigns so many times. Why is it so hard for devs to create this magic again.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Grey Goo came close, but ruined it with extremely short campaigns. Five missions per side is just nothing. C&C1 had that much just as hidden bonus campaign.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hilariously, I literally just booted up Grey Goo 30 seconds ago to play the campaign again.

I re-played C&C when it became a free download a while ago. Oh my were my memories romanticised: The controls are AWFUL. So. Much. Redundant. Clicking!

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

The first C&C much like the first Warcraft didn't have the contextual mouse commands yet?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It didn't. And both building and unit construction involved A LOT of additional clicks.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I tried playing it and while my nostalgia was great it fell into a trap of a lot of other great games from my youth where quality of life improvements in newer games become very obvious.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Have you tried to play Dune II on Amiga emulator? There is no drag & drop either!

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That was my first RTS ever and I played it on the sega genesis. Talk about wonky controls :D

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you’re not opposed to spending a couple bucks, the remaster they did is actually quite well done. Probably fixes the issues you’re thinking of.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wish I could get RA2 to run on my Mac. That’s all I want.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You could try https://www.openra.net/. An open source labor of love that should run on mac

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I love you. I just won my first skirmish in 20 years.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fantastic! Happy it works for you

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Still blows my mind that C&C and Red Alert both had an entire 3rd campaign hidden as an easter egg

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Well, they're only like a third of the missions of a normal campaign in the game though.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Starcraft had 3 hidden story missions 👍

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Which expanded the lore.

I want a remastered Tiberium Sun!!!

2 years ago | Likes 236 Dislikes 1

If they do it like they did TD/RA1, the 25th anniversary is next year.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

they did a banging job on the original C&C/RA so it's not impossible.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I love that game, some parts are broken, I would have loved to see more with the aliens.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

https://www.openra.net/ the Dev builds support tiberium sun

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I want that and remastered RA2...

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

RA2. enjoy all of them but RA2 was my jam

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

TS and RA2 rebuilt on a common engine would be epic. Add paradops, better tech structures, and garrison ability to TS and destrictive artillery and dynamic weather effects to both would be literal game changers. Stuff we in the modding community only dreamed of 15-20 years ago.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Tib sun and ra2 used the same engine, though? TibEdit was the lazy person's mod tools and it worked for both.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

personally at the moment I settle for https://www.moddb.com/mods/tiberian-sun-warzone

2 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

They knew what they were doing in 3, I always wonder if it was meant to be pure ham and cheese in 1&2, or if it was just budget constraints, but in 3 you could really see they’d embraced the everloving fuck out of it and I love that

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

My absolute favorite thing about 3. Tim curry crushed it, and having George Takei as the emperor was awesome. Giant mecha fit right in with everything else.

It's less that I miss 90's RTS games, more that I miss my group of friends taking over a basement/dining room/garage/etc. At someones house & having a LAN party all weekend. I'm 40 now, I don't have that many friends, I haven't owned a PC since I graduated college (work has provided one since then). I also don't have the time; nostalgia is a cruel mistress.

2 years ago | Likes 151 Dislikes 0

I had simular feelings, except i've always had a pc, so i just invited my friends over and went fuck it, noone is doing anything important in that week between christmas and new years anways we might as well be playing videogames at my place

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My friend and I would modify the .ini files and play custom games with each other for hours... over the modem. My parents weren't terribly thrilled.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Same, I miss getting together and having all weekend to just play games and goof off. We had an annual gaming get together for years but that stopped probably 5 or 6 years ago. Just no time for it.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Why no time? I work full time and still game plenty

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Full time job, wife, kids & house, then there are logistics, as my few friends have the same stuff going on in their lives, it's hard to coordinate a night out with adults & no kids, let alone an entire weekend. I also don't have any geek friends locally. If I can find time to play Switch it's a miracle.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Work has provided one lol. Me too

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think college was peak LAN party time though; I went to an Engineering college, so a bunch of geeks networked together meant we could get a game going at a moments notice. Played a lot of UT & CS in college, also Halo hit PC in 03, we played the heck out of that too

2 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I miss my LAN days too. RA3 was one of the few strategy games I've ever played multiplayer with friends enough to have our own little meta. It was great.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

UT GOTY FTW! Instagib mode in Morpheus and Facing Worlds for capture the flag. Good times.

Explain to me again how an airship is the most heavily armored unit in the whole game.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

During WWII, the German Zeppelin was notorious for taking a carp-ton of MG fire...then they invented incendiary rounds :/

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's full of hard gas.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Every time it got hit they just squirt some fix-a-flat innit.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'll try, but you have to explain the old AD&D THAC0 system first.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Easy. The lower the number the higher the AC. And you don't even have to remember any calculation with it since playing BG the game does that under the hood.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's easy. THAC0 is To Hit Armor Class 0. If your THAC0 is 12, youd need to roll 12 or higher to hit an oponent with an AC of 0. If enemy AC is -1 you add to your THAC0 so youd need to roll 13 or higher. If Target AC is 1, you subtract from your THAC0 so you'd need an 11 or higher. Don't ask me what the reasoning was behind it but that's how it was.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Actual numbers vary depensing on armor and other factors but that's the gist of it from what I remember. Id have to pull out my old 2nd edition books to see how you know what your THAC0 is.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's the reasoning that always got me. I usually defaulted to playing a bard just so I wouldn't have to deal with it.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I think the reasoning was to have armor act as essentially a penalty to others' rolls to hit you but in the end it was just an unnecessary amount of extra calculation.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Makes sense, but yea way too much calculation lol
