Stylistically, Batman Begins felt way more Batman-y. I really enjoy The Dark Knight, but the shine wore off on it over the years.
That said, I'll never forget how my folks were deep in a conversation while the movie was running, but both fell completely silent when Heath walked in fake laughing, interrupting the mob meeting. Total silence. Each time Heath was on screen, he absorbed everyone's attention. It's a shame we'll never get to see what his future performances would have been like.

If it wasn't for Heath Ledger (he thoroughly deserved that Oscar), the movie would have been "meh" at best.
It was too long, and didn't do justice to Two Face, either.
But, hey. That's just my opinion.

Also, Gotham looks like Gotham in Batman Begins and less like straight up Chicago like it does in Dark Knight.

I still like original 89 batman more, although being nine years old and one of the first movies I fully remember seeing in the cinema and became obsessed with might bias it with rose tinted glasses.

It's just a better movie overall, better story structure, more focus on the character of Batman/Wayne, which I thought was a bit lacking in The Dark Knight. Also Gotham actually felt like it's own city with a street crime underbelly. The later two movies its like they just stopped bothering and made it modern day New York. The Dark Knight is not a bad movie, its excellent in many wats, just not as good in my view.

I'll add my unpopular hot take to this in solidarity (even though I'll get downvoted). Heath Ledger was a terrible Joker. He was an AMAZING and SCARY psychopath, but that psychopath was a shit Joker. The Joker tries to patent smiling fish, or kills everyone in the Gotham phone book with the middle name of Roger, all in service to THE JOKE. Ledger's "agent of chaos" Joker doesn't look for a punchline, he's just a killer. The Joker is about THE JOKE even if the rest of us don't know what it is.

Ledger's Joker wasn't the Joker, he was just a scary guy in clown makeup. The Joker serves a punchline. That character did not serve a punchline he served as an agent of chaos. There was no joke he was trying to make.

I'll add on to that one. The Dark Knight Rises was one of the WORST movies made to date. Staggeringly stupid story, with three of today's best actors reduced to a handful of one-off lines. Even for a superhero movie, the suspension of disbelief required was ridiculous. Continuity errors that a first-year film student wouldn't make. I've been a fan of superhero, fantasy, sci-fi for decades, and I owe Nolan a kick to the balls for having subjected my attention to that drek.

The football game at the beginning sets the stage...there are crowds in some scenes, but pan back...nope. The stock exchange...it goes from sunny to rainy to sunny (don't get me going on how stupid the concept THAT stock exchange bit was). Batman throws punches that connect with people 15 feet away. That weird jet thing flies at different times of the day (day/night). I only watched that POS once. It just became a riff-fest.

Oh dear god I read that as "The Dark Knight was one of the WORST movies made to date." I was reading your synopsis like "What movie did he watch?". I completely agree having re-read it. Rises was too much super hero movie foo foo. Made batman less of a caped crusader in Gotham and more of a one man army across Metropolis. Tons of unecessary shots and happenings (I'm looking at you Anne Hathaway motorcycle gratuitous ass shots).

Marching EVERY cop into the sewers, and somehow blocking every single access point to a metropolitan sewer system. A nuclear bomb timer set to what 5.5 months? The ending with the nuke was oddly similar to the ending of a game that I was playing back then...was it Prototype? I like how a nuke in a truck for that time, and getting banged around while being carried by a hover jet NEVER had its' shaping charges misaligned? Was that how Batman survived? Just so stupid.

What do you mean? It's normal procedure to send the entire police force into a sewer. Also surely it is above board normal day ik the stock market, when gunmen invade stock exchange and suddenly the richest man in the city made weird trades losing every penny he has.
