I've seen one at the Georgia aquarium in Atlanta. They're freaking huge. Technically sharks but they don't have teeth and eat like most whales do.

It's sad that some aquaria have whale sharks in their exhibits.

I think this might be in Mexico where you can snorkel with them. You can see some snorkelers in the background

What goes on under the ocean is none of my business. I wish them well but hope they won't interfere with my trainwreck.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I wanna see a surface view of that. likimage, they are just below the surface and from the boat, all you see is random"holes" in the ocean

It is a dream of mine to swim with them some day <3

My coworker was snorkeling in the Philippines when one swam right up to them and hung out with them for a few minutes before taking off.

I live in a little surf town, Todos Santos north of Cabo San Lucas in Mexico. North of us about an hour is La Paz where the resident whale sharks live, mate, nurse and grow to the size of a bread truck. You can take tours and dive with them right now. It's really amazing. So gentle. Friends went last week and said they were everywhere in the bay. I spearfish up there and get lucky enough to see them by myself once in awhile. Truly in awe

I knew they were filter feeders but somehow this method never crossed my mind.

They expel the water through their gills, which fish do anyway in order to take up oxygen. Breathing and eating in one go. Baleen whales had to evolve filter teeth for this purpose, but fish already had built-in filters.

They're going to need to pee so badly later...

sobv... they aren't drinking the water, watch their gills

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 9

Fun fact: fish release a continuous stream of urea from their gills, so they're still peeing.

8 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

That's their secret, cap. They're always peeing.
