GNU STP tho I can’t remember which this is from

STP again, discworld

Which made me think of Animaniacs

Britta Marakatt-Labba. Indigenous artist and activist.

More STP and discworld

I’m with Stibbons. Life goals.

Margrat Garlick becoming the Queen of Lancre

Traditional sámi gåetie

The Japanese have tea ceremonies, the sámi have coffee ones.

I have this T-shirt

The three goddesses, daughters of Maderakka, the great-grandmother. Uksakka, Juksakka, and Sarakka.

As always, GNU STP

Discworld again tho I can’t remember which book? They hatch from snow globes. An Unseen University title for sure but which one? Help.

#1 no way... he was a hypocrit!?!?

#21 And the red Corvette hero car that Tod and Buz cruised around on "Route 66" was actually a beige/tan. It filmed better

Lennon was no saint but definitely a shit way to start a dump like this

7 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

#1 In 1969 they were both working artists. Are we supposed to be angry that they paid for a hotel room? Are we supposed to be angry that hotels have a staff? I don't think there's any irony in paying for a hotel room and also protesting the Vietnam War.

#43 Reaper Man! Rereading it right now 🥰

7 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

#2 #3 just because they have a 16 yr old kid doesn't mean it was the 33 yr old's biological child.

7 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Wish I could upvote you a thousand times.

For every 30 year old marrying a 15 year old there are 100 good dudes willing to raise someone else's kids when a girl decides it's time to settle down and stop dating bad boys.

Which is more likely?

OP sucks, lots of this dump is problematic.

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You’re problematic. The sexism in your comments is insane! You’re just spewing incel shit

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

#7 honestly this just really cements Connery as the most accurate bond so far

#16 Genuine "devil's advocacy" is meant to be constructive and collaborative - a way to strengthen an argument or an idea by identifying potential weaknesses and finding ways to address them. It's not bad practice when performed correctly, with both parties cooperating. The problem is people frequently misuse the term as a smokescreen to obscure an actual argument they're springing on someone with no sincere collaborative intentions. It gives a bad name to a useful exercise.

7 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

You said this really well, and I totally agree. I like to have someone question me, if meaning well for the understanding of the philosophy or debate. But not as a brick wall straw man argument to just "poke the bear" and waste my energy thinking they are actually that stupid that

7 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

#30 ummmm wtf

7 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah the whole thing about ‘dependas’ is just so baffling to me.

7 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

#41 I judge a woman if she sleeps with me easily. That judgement is "I like this woman. I want her around all the time. I should give her some snacks so she'll want to stick around."

7 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

#29 would you be willing to do a post about Sami coffee rituals? Im interested.

Also thank you as always for all the STP.

Also, hope you are well my friend!

7 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I'm not, but thank you for sharing what you know.

7 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Well that freaking sucks. Please know that this internet friend wishes you the very best of things and that I thoroughly enjoy all our convos. Seriously, I get very happy when I see a comment from you.
Also I’m on so many of the meds for so many of the things, so if you want talk m I can promise I’m a supportive and judgement-free zone.

#41 I had a friend in college who thought he was the smoothest, most seductive guy out there because he could sleep with so many women. Mentioning his ways to a female friend of mine her response was that hardly any women at the school really thought that, but they knew he was easy to sleep with. A little flirting and pretending to fall for his flirting and you got yourself some D if you wanted it.

#10 Seven minutes? I'd still have enough candle to light us both cigarettes and have a chat.

7 months ago | Likes 83 Dislikes 0

Tbf how is 7 minutes enough?

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well not accounting for foreplay or aftercare (which I assume with a sex worker you don't have to worry about much anyways), the act itself is an average of 5-7 mins for a man to finish. Soooo, it could work if you just got down to it or didn't last as long as the average I suppose.

7 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

If thats the average then this meams for half the people thats not working , is that when they have to order a double pounder?

7 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

632 minute georg was an outlier and should not have been counted. average does not mean it splits the sample group in half

7 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I usually run out of things to say in about 3 minutes so I don't know what to do with the other 5.

7 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

That is 8 minutes, not 7.

7 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

how'd they get the spine upside down?

7 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

#3 Wait. 34-16=17. Which means she was 16 or 17 when she got pregnant. 50-16=24. Which means he was 23 or 24 when he committed Statutory Rape.

7 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

You're making the assumption that he is the bio father.

This may come as a shock to you (and apparently everyone else on imgur) but there are MANY dudes out there raising some other guys kids, often marrying single moms who hoed it up when younger, caught a baby, then figured out they didn't like bad boys any more and found a decent dude who would raise her wild oats babies.

How does that feel?

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Woah chill with the sexism dude

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I believe 50-16=34. He was 34 yo

#46 While funny, this isn’t a real translation. “Das Fluten” means “The Flood” or “The Flooding”, and “Duten” isn’t even a real word in German, though it does sound like it could be, which is probably why someone made it up for the meme.

7 months ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Thank you. Always annoys me. German is plenty funny enough when it's correct. Maybe Okarina der Zeit doesn't sound as good but I like it

7 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Just for fun...here's some silly German words: Schmetterling, Krankenhaus, Radiergummi, Fledermaus, Hell literally means bright which as a migraine sufferer is so true...I could go on,see it's funny enough when it's real.

#22 recently saw an exhibition with her work here in Stockholm - it was absolutely brilliant! I even bought the whole book with all the artwork so I can read and learn even more about the backgrounds to the different art work and about her too.

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

She’s amazing! I missed the exhibition but would love to own a print of ‘Kråkorna’ which is one of my favourites.

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My friend who recommended the exhibition to me, and who’s part Sami, bought that print! And it is definitely one of my favourites too. You should order one for yourself - as a treat!

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I really hope this comes off the way I intend it but I have a thing about saying ‘part sámi’. To me your friend is sámi. And hopefully in the Stockholm sámi society? (Stockholms sameförening). Oh and also on the National day we raise the flag at the town hall. Starts at 9 usually, and then there’s fika after. They/you should come!
I’m off to find that print now 😁

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You’re very right in “correcting” me! And I will absolutely talk to her about the 6th - avd if she wants me to join I’d happily do so!
Hey - you go get those prints! I hope we see each other at some point soon :) kram!

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You’re a sweetheart! I always feel a bit bad as I’m basically saying ‘no this is how you should identify’ 😬
Thank you for understanding. And it would be so awesome if she/you join! And I hope it goes without saying that you’re so very welcome even if she can’t make it. Send me a message and I can meet you by the entrance if that’s ok ❤️ kram!

#1 This is the same surface level histyory that gets you thinking that pointing out Zohran Mamdani's wife having $600 boots or Rage Against the Machine making money is some kind of "gotcha". John Lennon had some serious character flaws but playing the press to get them to cover protests wasn't one of them.

7 months ago | Likes 77 Dislikes 4

I read a couple of the original Bond books last year because I wanted to see the origins of my favorite movies, but I had to stop because of the racism. Also, "Chinese negroes"??

7 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Seemingly every country has a darker skinned ethnic group who have historically been shit on. Mongolians in China, Ainu in Japan, hill tribes in Thailand, Tamils in India, etc, etc. It sucks.

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Real question because I'm not a Bond fan. Is that take real?

7 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Austin Powers. So Bond parody.

7 months ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

Eh it's a bit exaggerated but otherwise the gist is kinda there.

7 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It should be noted that Bond, the character, is /not/ a good man by any means, and only the more recent movies have tried to portray him as one.

7 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Didn't Sean Connery hate the book character?

7 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

#43 you are looking for Reaper Man. One of my favorites.

7 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I have mixed feelings about that book. The Death portion of the book was fantastic (including his time as Bill Door), but I did not care for the wizards half. It feels like Pratchett had a beautiful story in mind, wrote it, realized it only took up 60 pages, and decided to turn a barely-enchanted rant about how much he hates shopping malls into a B-plot to make the book long enough to publish.

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I do agree the shopping mall stuff was weird. But I personally don't care that much about any of the wizard books (except Unseen University and maybe Interesting Times). IMHO the wizard stuff focusses to much on the parody and not enough on the story. Most of them are just joke characters and work better as supporting cast.

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've been currently re-interpreting that section as a clever parody of Aliens and LLMs that's well ahead of it's time.

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

ALL THINGS THAT ARE, ARE OURS. BUT WE MUST CARE. FOR IF WE DO NOT CARE, WE DO NOT EXIST. IF WE DO NOT EXIST, THEN THERE IS NOTHING BUT BLIND OBLIVION. AND EVEN OBLIVION MUST END SOMEDAY. LORD, WILL YOU GRANT ME JUST A LITTLE TIME? FOR THE PROPER BALANCE OF THINGS. TO RETURN WHAT WAS GIVEN. FOR THE SAKE OF PRISONERS AND THE FLIGHT OF BIRDS.

7 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

As always, you’re a freaking star!!!!! (Five exclamation points? Well. Now you’re bound to know I wear my underpants on my head)
I’m off to re-read it. Thank you friend!!

7 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It's one of my favorites, for that speech in the end. And I read it during harvest season. For the grapes, I am the Reaper Man.

7 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Honestly I need some sort of ‘time of the year’ schedule for discworld novels. Didn’t realise until now, I just reread them at random intervals but matching them to a season would be class. Hmm. Off to the internets I go. Thank you!

7 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fwiw, the only real seasonal ones for me are Night Watch (May), Hogfather (December-Jan), and Reaper Man (August-September). I occasionally re-read Small Gods and Carpe Jugulum during Lent.

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

#9 is from the Discworld novel "Guards! Guards"

7 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

No, but it is from the City Guards set of books. Specifically, it's from Snuff. Constable Upshot is the local watchman Vimes meets in the Shires. Also, for some reason the quote has been changed. Masher's father was a wild boar.

7 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

#43 -pretty sure it’s Sourcery.

7 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Reaper Man. Love that book!

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Reaper Man actually. Just finished it. It's when Death moves to the farm and nobody can die so life creeps into everything. The snow globes are just one of the zany side plots.

7 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The city eggs and the hive mind trolleys/grocery carts.

Okay, so just what is STP? I'm getting the sense that in this usage it has nothing to do with internal combustion engines

#1 protesting again the Vietnam war

7 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

Jesus FUCK this meme needs to die. They were using their fame (which at this point they had no control over) to try to do SOMETHING/ ANYTHING to change the conventional dialog about the inevitability of war. What did you want them to do? Stay in bed and not let the cleaning staff do the job they're paid for? Lennon and Ono were no saints but GOD DAMN this meme pisses me off.

7 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

Isn't it funny how the only time the Beetles come up anymore is memes about these two and it's always about how silly protesting is or some dogwhistle about Yoko being a woman or not white or both

I always find that really fun and cool and interesting and it never gets old no matter how many times it happens.

7 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 6

I was commenting that they were not showing double standards (I agree with you). They were not 'protesting against the system' (and yet implicitly part of it). They were, as you say, using their fame to try to do something about the war.

7 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

#2 The fact that they have such an age gap isn't a problem... the age of their child (and then the age she had it)... Mmmm...

7 months ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 6

Why has everyone forgotten that divorces happen? One or all of those kids could easily be his by a previous partner.

7 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

He was twice her age

7 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

He was 33 and she was 16 when he got her pregnant. The age gap is definitely also a problem.

7 months ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 0

Yeah. Age gaps are less of an issue as you get older, but at that age, any sizable gap is pretty fucking major. Vast power imbalance when you have one person who has their life and career set up, and another who is just starting out in adult life. But that particular gap? Gtfo. Dude was twice her age at that point and she was still a child then. That's just straight up grooming at that point, she was so young.

7 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

We're assuming a lot though. That it's their shared child, that she is the birth mother (not that the older dad was the birth father), that it was not a forced pregnancy by someone else... lots of assumptions, lots of judgement

7 months ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

Ikr, who has a child under their teens and then marries a much older man at 22? She should have been single her whole life if the first baby daddy dipped.
