Dude SAME. I have a border collie, usually they're high energy but she's such a sweetheart. She won't jump off the bed till she's sure I'm awake, and if she wants to get up she'll only lay her head on me. That's it. I can go take a nap at any time of the day and she'll curl up next to me and fall asleep no problemo. I saw this post and I was like FUCK THAT. Get yourself a dog that matches your energy.
All my dogs, I don't know how, unless they are DESPERATE to go outside (and I mean out the door insta-squat desperate even in -30C), my whole life, don't bother me but the moment I'm UP they are READY lol all the kisses, and playfulness and wanting food and outside and then they're chill.
We're talking like 12 dogs over 40 years, almost all mutts except for the Dobie (and all were rescues), but even the Dobie was that way, though that's definitely a breed thing hah.
I just finished pet sitting for a lab retriever who wasn't insistent about breakfast. But he politely would let you know. Again if you move. He would stand at the side of the bed and look at you. The thing is he is so tall that he is looking you directly in the eye. His head is taller than the bed. He is still just as sweet as he is big.
For dogs I am not sure, but for cats, I would not recommend them. They are only suited for dry food and dry food should not be the main source of food for cats. If they have access to it via automatic feeders, they might eat too much of it. Our cats loved dry food more than wet food, and it nearly killed them because we didn't know. It was 12 years ago.
The whole point of an automatic feeder is to dispense specific amounts of food at set times during the day. Did you buy some kind of feeder that can be activated by the pets at any time? That would be a pretty dumb mistake on your part.
No, I wanted to point out, that using an automatic feeder does not solve the issue as suggested :) Since you have to feed them regardless of it with wet food. So the pets will still call you if they are hungry. That's what I meant. But I understand that I have phrased it poorly.
We did not use a feeder in general. But the dry food was poison to our cats (we gave them both, but it damaged their kidneys nonetheless and it went better after we removed dry food from the menu)
