I spent two days cleaning up this one spot just west of the Reconciliation Bridge. At the end of the second day I was really tired, so I grouped up the bags and decided I would do the back-and-forth bringing the bags to the trash can the next morning…
Well, I get there the next morning and they were already gone. I thought to myself “9 AM on a Sunday? Did the city already grab it!?”
Lo and behold, while I was taking the after photos, a homeless man came over and I found out he moved them all further down the path to the trashcan for me!!! He asked if I had an extra picker and I gladly gave him my extra. Moments like these fuel me to even greater heights! And speaking of which… (See Part 2)

I remember when I used to think just get a job. Now I understand life doesn’t work that way.

People want to do good things and contribute. It's just such bullshit that all contributions need to be monetized or else they have no "real world" value.
Give people something to give them dignity and a purpose, and you'd be amazed how much someone can accomplish.

ain't gonna lie, ya had me in the first half

So I am a general manager for a collision shop. I was just put into a new region with a new regional manager and 7 other GM's. If you didn't know, collision repair is a very conservative trade. Well, these fuckers were joking about homeless people for a solid hour. I sat on it for a while and finally thought, "fuck it, I'm going to hit them with some knowledge." I called them out on their bullshit and used stats to back it up. They got real quiet after that.

I'm afraid that (almost?) anyone making fun of homeless people or marginalized groups is either too evil to care or too dumb to understand.
Nooooooooooooooooooooo
and yet everyone is patting this idiot on the back for doing exactly the same at first

My understanding is that being homeless is REALLY boring, so in addition to being a good deed, it's also a smart way to alleviate boredom. Besides, only a fool would mess with a homeless person who is doing active cleaning in an area. Hell, the city could pay him for cleanup and probably save money.
CleaningUpCalgary
It’s funny cause I started the hobby first THEN became homeless.
Eldibs
That is truly ironic, and funny in a kinda "laugh so we don't cry" type of thing.

Bro, you’re incredible! Thank you for showing what it means to build community and make the world a little bit better. <3
MostlyAngryButNiceAboutIt
Hell yeah broa
slausage
I thought it was going to cut to trail cam footage of raccoons tearing up all the bags.
makalalala
Fellow Canadian. Good on ya bud.

People want to talk about "Patriotism", well, this is what it looks like. Patriotism is CARING about your community, your country, your fellow humans and the world they live in. If you care about your nation, you help to make it a better place to live in for everyone at a base level. The rest comes later.
thedudeman519
Many of the people that talk about things like patriotism and duty or service , do so to pound their chests and beat the drums of war.
There are many ways to serve your country, community , and humanity as a whole

I think you're wittingly or unwittingly being used as a dupe to clean up homeless camps. Please stop persecuting them- these are the poorest of the poor. I'm a former homeless worker and I bet where you're from it's illegal to throw homeless people out of their camps, tents so you're doing it illegally and then trying to campaign against them- do you wreck the camps first? Someone is- then paying you. STOP THIS!

Did you watch the video?
JahSureYouBetcha

Launch good, the link on your post. Please tell me i didn't click a scam! Oh and it's AUD so the amounts will vary.
Nooooooooooooooooooooo
Why do you think it was an unhoused persona and not some shitty kids?
NickRivieraMD
I think you didn't watch the video through
Nooooooooooooooooooooo
No, I watched it. He learned a lesson about biases and still chose to post this nonsense.
NickRivieraMD
Nope. He is, himself, a homeless dude. The format is intended to subvert expectations, in such a way as to teach people to recognize the bias you're talking about.
TheLastBootyBender
It's called a misdirection. You watched the first half expecting there to be a mess, the second video corrects it.
He didn't make any assumptions, because the bags were just gone, thinking the city took them.
urusername2
Homeless people are just people who are unlucky. Do YOU think your luck isn't a fragile thing?
freakdiablo
All it takes is one missed rent payment for many. No one chooses to be homeless.
AmericasHouseguest
Which makes this video even nicer. If you watch the whole thing.
Nooooooooooooooooooooo
It isn't NICE to first sight at an unhoused individual and then pull a gotcha.
urusername2
What gotcha?
