We're going to browse the hardware stores for stuff to remodel my bathrooms.

I always have a nice time hanging out with her. We have great conversations, rarely any lull. She invites me to run errands with her all the time and I never say no. She's great.

Update: Well, that was fun! Spent about four hours just strolling through the stores and chatting. I picked out a bunch of stuff that I like, now I just have to go back tomorrow to buy/order everything with my husband. Such a nice day :)

My MIL is full MAGA.... There is a lot of things about me she doesn't know.

Sometimes I would like to take people like you and your MiL around to certain other people and yell “See?! It’s not that hard! Don’t be a dick/narcissist/nasty fuckwit and they’ll actually want to spend time with you!” but I know it wouldn’t make a teensy bit of difference …

My MIL is also super chill. I don't get all the hate on them, like at all. Feels like some variant of boomer humor. This woman is sweet, kind, generous, and genuinely appreciates all that I do for her and her daughter.

Glad you went through with it and ended up having fun!

It's better to have family that you choose and enjoy than the ones you don't get to choose who drag you down. Enjoy the time with her

I love my MIL too! She's a cool lady. Has the highest tolerance for spicy food of anyone I know, so we like to share hot sauces and stuff. She's way tougher than I am though.

I've learned that how your mother-in-law treats you is based on how your spouse talks about you. I'm sure there are exceptions, but I've never seen any in real life.

I got lucky with a great mother-in-law.
My wife's mother-in-law is the problem.

My husband's mother-in-law isn't a kind person either.

I hit the jackpot with my in-laws. Beautiful people.

My MIL and I are at odds. We have completely incompatible personalities. She's very domineering, and I'm not one who likes to be told what to do, unlike my milquetoast FIL.

Oh, my MIL can be like that sometimes too. She makes everyone do chores for her on family dinner days. I do the least amount because I'm the only one who will tell her no, lol. But hanging out with her is fun :)

Unfortunately, there is nothing "fun" about being around my MIL. She's just a miserable bitch and talks down to everyone (waitstaff are her favorite to berate). I take solace in the fact that I don't have to be around her much.

Sounds like my mom. She's rude to everyone. I never liked getting fast food with her as a kid because she would talk very rudely and demanding to the staff and I was always afraid they spit in our burgers.

Glad you ditched that bitch!

How nice! both my brothers GFs have difficult relationships with their moms.

Aww that's lame :(

I'm happy for you. Having a mil that hates you is no fun. 38 yrs in and no change lol

I also choose this guys' mother in law

You're just going to use her as a hat as well, aren't you?

Bold of you to assume that @OP is a male… given their TT posts they identify or are female, so that’s on you!

Thanks. I'm bold. James bold.

I once dumped a literal *oil baron* simply because his mother was intolerable.

6 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Fast forward 15 years and I have a MIL I adore.

6 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I already wouldn't trust an oil baron to be a decent person, so I'm wondering why you were with him in the first place, if not for his money.

It was generational - we were quite young, it wasn’t as he had struck out in the industry on his own. He was a very sweet guy, but tbh I would have broken up with him eventually because he was extremely boring and sheltered.

When I first met he was doing an international studies MA. We planned to travel the world and live internationally. Mommy convinced him to move back to his podunk hometown and play into his role as a ‘the third’.

I still think of him sometimes…when I watch the Monty Python ‘Upper Class Twit of the Year’ sketch.

Because his mom was an intolerable monster. He need you more than you need him.

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

She wasn’t a monster, she just had Peggy Hill level delusions of grandeur and personal importance. I think she literally considered herself the Queen of their tiny rural community.

The weird part was; the massive amount of bragging she did about the most inane sh*t wasn’t even done by her family. It was her husband’s family.
