Windows in planes are useless anyway. Install cameras so you can “look out of the window” anywhere you sit. Surely “holes” in the aluminium tubes we are travelling in causes stress points.
Excuse me stewardess I hope you don't mind but I'm going to use some det cord to make a window, it might get a little loud and breezy though. Since I have paid extra for a window I am going to get a window
Seat 3A on Delta's smaller jets is my usual seat flying between Detroit and Syracuse or Rochester. It's a window seat that is between two windows, so not a great view. It's my favorite place to take a vodka nap.
I always sat out window seats, where the window lined up with my shoulders, if it was on a flight, I was familiar with. I have very wide shoulders and if I'm in an aisle seat, I get smacked constantly.
So...funny you mention that. There is research into removing passenger windows altogether and replacing them with OLED panels that reproduces what would be outside it the plane. Safer, cheaper to build, and more economical (windows are relatively heavy)
This is not usually the case, speaking of someone who had platinum status on Delta for a few years until I retired.
The only consistent exception that I am aware of is if the only window seats remaining are in a more expensive area, such as first class or business class or premium economy.
For certain fare categories, you do not get to pick your seat, so there is a fee to be able to select the kind of seat you get. You might randomly get window or you might randomly not.
When I last flew (I'll admit it's been a few years), it was on Jet Blue, and we got to pick seats. We also could select seats with more leg room, window, or aisle for upcharges in certain zones.
Discount airlines will charge you for anything and everything. "do you wish to pay an extra $20 for a text message alert if your flight is delayed or canceled?"
Sun Country flights always show as if they are on time, even up to the point when you're sitting in the waiting area at the gate. Sometimes there is no departure time posted until an hour past the original departure time established.
A window seat should have a window and a seat. Or would you also say it's ok to be next to a window, regardless of the existence of a seat? If they charge you extra and call it like this. You shall get both.
You can still buy a deluxe version of the aquarium screensaver that was used in Windows XP. https://www.pcgamer.com/gaming-industry/a-former-air-fo">s-day/">https://www.pcgamer.com/gaming-industry/a-former-air-force-pilot-was-so-disappointed-with-windows-95s-aquarium-screensaver-that-he-established-a-25-year-dynasty-of-digital-fish-that-continues-to-this-day/ , https://www.novadevelopment.com/software/marine-aquarium-129007
Ah ok, so it's an emergency exit in the hull, but they put a window plug into it because the plane doesn't need it with a lower capacity of people. Make sense, thanks!
If you ever feel like you are dumb, just remember that an attorney actually said this:
“The use of the word ‘window’ in reference to a particular seat cannot reasonably be interpreted as a promise that the seat will have an exterior window view”
In fairness,a corporate lawyers job is to say literally anything and everything that can get them off the hook. Its not arguing beliefs, its arguing "we dont want to pay or say we were wrong".
To be fair, buddy has a shot of convincing the judge this is a valid argument. After all, Ohio supreme court rules that boneless chicken wings do not actually have to be boneless.
If you were a conniving corporate lawyer, maybe you could make an argument like "When riding shotgun, you're not expected to carry a twelve gauge. The word used to denote the position of the seat is selected via a descriptivist framework deriving from cultural history. Inner and outer seats on aircraft being denoted 'aisle' and 'window' are taken to be in-line with cultural usage, rather than to denote available features."
No. A window seat means there is a fucking window. It is NOT okay even if it was the same price. If you sell seats without a window, call it "outer seat" or "side seat" or whatever.
They can get around this argument by having a disclaimer saying that "a widow seat does not guarantee a widow. " But charging extra for a widow seat is what may get the law suit through.
What kind of widow we talking here? Hot mom whose husband died tragically, elderly lady who lost her husband after 60 years, or 3rd time widower in a large fur coat and all three of her previous husbands died mysteriously?
I'll take any of them, I just want to know which one first.
DJThuglifeSupreme
This is why I liked when you could pick your own seat on Southwest

It's a matter of time before Ryanair latch onto this.
Icanthavemyusername
That is, in fact, a Ryanair's 737-800. And that's just how the aircraft is built.

I thought it looked like Ryanair

11A and 11F on Ryanair's 737 (at least the NGs not sure about the max).
Kablooeeey
Wont be laughing when all airlines decide that you don't need windows on a plane and replace them all with slot machines.
marsilies
The craziest are the planned "quiet" supersonic planes that replace the windows with LED screens. NASA has a prototype with a windowless cockpit: https://aerospaceamerica.aiaa.org/flying-blind-how-nasas-x-59-could-bolster-the-windowless-cockpit/

The enshitification - “window” seats are any seat next to the fuselage, regardless of the existence of a window.

Problem is, they are still charging customers more for them

Nah thats where the AC ducting is. According to some other imgur poster when something like this was posted before.
Icanthavemyusername
That is correct.
lightfoot2
Oh ok. They do have a blank panel there or something; I thought that blank panel is what blew out on the recent airplane oops.
Atomic2
The recent oops was a broken window after debris from an engine failure broke the window. The other big oops was a door plug.
lightfoot2
Oh ok, that was what I was thinking about: Plug. Though I thought it was a window plug. Hm.
marsilies
The "door plug" that they put in a spot where a door *could* go, but the airline wants another row of seats there instead, has a window in it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alaska_Airlines_Flight_1282
lightfoot2
Ah ok, so it's an emergency exit in the hull, but they put a window plug into it because the plane doesn't need it with a lower capacity of people. Make sense, thanks!

Again, door plug, because it plugs a doorway in the airframe.
