Watch friends and family ignore quarantine go out have fun act like it’s no big deal. Wife and I haven’t interacted with anyone since last year.
We had our first born this March and she has some health issues so we have been deathly afraid of covid. I’m talking one trip to the store every 2 weeks. No outside contact with anyone. Masks anytime we leave the house. Haven’t seen family and family hasn’t seen our daughter. Since March! Planned to go see family finally for thanksgiving, but cancelled flights last minute that were supposed to be yesterday since the covid is spiking again. Today wife and I start feeling sick, sore throat, cough. Headache. Positive test. Scared shitless for my 8 month daughter. No way she doesn’t have it when we do. So frustrated watching friends and family go out to dinner, party, vacay like nothing is wrong while we are super safe and still get it. Ugh sorry just had to vent
Edit: wow thanks for the support everyone! So far symptoms are mild, so I am hopeful. Stay safe and don’t travel for Thanksgiving!
Second edit after reading comments: Should clarify my wife returned to work after maternity leave where she works in the office complex of a hospital. Minimal person interaction, zero patient interaction and strict safety protocols. But guessing she caught it there. I am able to work from home fortunately. When I said no outside contact I meant with anyone socially, sorry for the lack of clarification.

Thank you for doing the right thing anyway, and wishing you all a speedy recovery
EpilatorAlligatorBothReduceGrowth
Stay strong! There are actually examples of families where dad/mum has had it and the children not. Continue precautions, viral load matters
chiphimjo
My 14month old son tested positive for covid, he showed no real signs of it except for symptoms related to teething, he also got 8 teeth..so

I feel you. Friend of mine has been to 3 weddings, goes out to dinner weekly, and goes to Disney every weekend. I don't get people.

Advice for parents of babies with COVID: dye free Pedialyte! Make sure baby is hydrated! Mix with formula or mama milk, or by itself.
MellifluousJoker
I feel you. Some of my family are very much the same, when I haven't risked seeing my parents in months. Cunts.

To clarify, @OP did nothing wrong, I just think this is a relevant infographic.
librarianian
If she's breastfeeding make sure she keeps doing it, she could pass on antibodies to baby! Just wash hands before/after and wear a mask
Shouldawoulda
And fresh shirt before picking up and cuddling the baby!
mellymelsf
All the people I know that have gotten it have played by the rules. Sucks.

Yep, partner has a bunch of health issues so being super careful. I've given up a sport that is basically my life for now. Her family, 1/

Somewhere one of you got exposed. Hopefully you can help the Tracer locate where you got it

For those freaking out right now: his wife works at a hospital! Regardless, continue to mask up and take it seriously.
clevonjr
In the offices of the hospital with super strict safety protocols. Minimal people and zero patient interaction
pooperscooper3333
How do you think you got it?
elvispelviss
Our safety directly depends on other people judgment, this is the scary part.
Doddsy96
Well on the upside due to your due diligence you delayed your case and as such the medical understanding and treatment is more advanced.
Doddsy96
Still not great but look at the bright side

There’s missing info here. Are you saying the only time you have been in proximity to other people is at the grocery store? What about doc?
ocularpatdown
Annnd...there is! His wife works at a hospital. In office, but still!
clevonjr
Sorry should’ve worded it as quarantining as much as possible. Wife had to return to office job a few months ago but safety protocol is high
HappyHobbit123
Make sure you rest. Hot fluids and paracetamol (NOT ibuprofen).
TheyDontKnowAndYouCantTellEm
COULD be a false positive + a mild flu. Don't panic. You got your towel? At ur age CHANCES ARE you'll be fine. Little one will b fine.
Bluegrasslass
No matter how hard you try, other dickheads are spreading it around. Hope you all get better soon!
GiddyKipper
Sorry you are both ill - kid will almost definitely be fine. Statistically far more likely to be unaffected, asymptomatic, or very minor
wipethatfaceoffyourheadbitch
Especially if breastfeeding still. We had hand foot and mouth ravage the house and our 3-mo barely had a little bum rash. Lucky bastard.
fivefrozenfishfingers
I quarantined for two weeks off grid with no bathroom or shower. It was brutal.
whereisdannymo
my niece didn't have it when her mom did. I couldn't believe it, but was so relieved. That's why we asked everyone to be so cautious.
Rijtjeshuis
Good luck. My wife and I just had our first a three months after yours... It really isn't easy.
MAN9000
The nice thing is that it's so much work taking care is a little one that you wouldn't be out as much anyhow.
FreyjaAE
Congratulations and good luck, times are tough
PhillyArmadillo
Had our first in April! Sooooo not easy.

It's fucking half-masker's fault in the stores

Where i live the stores are very vigilant wiping touched surfaces down with disinfectant, except Walmart. Walmart is disgusting.
clevonjr
Yeah and here in Alaska there’s a lot of anti maskers so you see people not wearing masks in stores. Have tried to keep distance from them
thissitestealswhatcouldvebeenmyproductivity
Hands carry germs. Still. Masks are touched a lot, even when worn correctly. It’s all part of the game of life.
VInTheSkyWithElephants
This. Everyone is ignoring the Swiss cheese model; I can’t tell you the # of times I’ve seen ppl put a mask on to be all in someone’s bubble
tyrfin
"the safety's on so why are you mad that I'm casually poking you with the muzzle of Schrodinger's rifle?"
SecondAccountforDoingOtherShit
Of course! Quantum russian roulette! Are there rounds in the gun? Are you alive or dead? Which will collapse? You or the wave function!?
DrRad
Research says lids are surprisingly resistant to getting covid. Whole serious, complications in children are rare, if they get it.

Who is it?

Mel B from the Spice Girls. The show is a big Fat Quiz of the Year. Can’t remember the year but it’s easy to find.

Look up the age groups most affected in terms of mortality. You might find that newborns and toddlers are surprisingly resilient.
imnotdone
Thinking they may have some protection from having the MMR vaccine.
cadesama
Not sure what the down votes are about. You are right that there is emerging evidence that learned immunity from other vaccines may help.
imnotdone
Yep!
pukeycakes
Mortality isn't always the scariest issue. It can be lifelong complications such as overstretching of cardiac muscles.
pukeycakes
Which could lead to heart failure way before 60s
Nuttsy
Yeh, but also...developing on shredded lungs and circulatory system?
Zahnradfee
But OP said the baby already has health issues. He doesn't specify which kind, but still.
whateverthevoicestellme
Yeah, under 10 have super powers. Worry about your wife
andsoyouwonder
Had a coworker who contracted COVID and somehow his wife and kids never got it. Hoping OP gets that lucky.
thisguyonline1988
Same. Always hope for the best.
TaterTits
Death is only one outcome. We don't know what lifetime of complications a child may suffer after contracting C-19.
AsiagoTheSuperVillain
True, but if you have an infant or toddler, it is impossible not to worry.
CritterrCatcher
Agreed. My entire concern is that my babies will get it.

But what are the long term effects on the organs, which are developing? Scary shit for babies, IMO.
EvilAbedsBoneSaw
More like what are the long term affects from the virus itself? It could lie dormant like chickenpox, we could lose immunity to it, etc etc
eveneverythingstakenistaken
Icu nurse here. That's like saying what are the long term effects of the flu? Most people nothing, some people life long debilitation.
Blud4BludGod
If I'm gonna get a bit of organ damage, I'd rather it happen with the bodily plasticity of youth. Seriously, I got stabbed in the eye as...
Blud4BludGod
...a young child and my vision recovered as I aged. Kids bounce back like crazy, it's insane.
Blud4BludGod
Obv my first choice would be no damage at all, though. Best wishes to OP, I hope you and your family have mild cases and feel well soon.
privatepublic
The long term effects have been completely ignored from the risk assessment conversations. It's bizarre.
haerdoepfu
Long term - we simply don't have data on that yet.
privatepublic
Exactly my point. We see the havoc it creates on the body in the short-term and have seen 'long-covd', seems wise to consider the LE risk.
Acc87
A worrying effect some scientists propose is infertility, as covid roundhouse kicks certain types of protein.
WellWellWellLookWhoItIs
Long term is on the order of years, not months. The virus simply hasn’t been around long enough to collect that data.
faab64
Sorry to hear that. It makes me mad when people say it's nothing and play it down. Hope you get well soon and thanks for sharing.

Guys I’m pretty sure they’re being sarcastic “even if they feel sick and have a fever”... come on
clevonjr
Thanks. Same here. So mad I really don’t think we could’ve been safer and I see idiots going to bars or ignoring all recs
Morsalbum
recs? recommendations? are they rcmndtns? not mandates that ppl ignore for some reason? ima go out on a limb and 'guess' too, that its USA?
FreyjaAE
It sucks :( im not religious but sending hope that ur family gets through this!
SlutAtNight
It’s a very contagious disease, and all those morons you pointed out are probably why you’re sick...I’m sorry ❤️
HandymanJake
I’m in the exact same boat. Because we just had a little boy. We are healthy now but for my own education, how do you think you got it?
greentights
My guess is the grocery store. It only takes one plague rat.
PieAndPunch
Weird. I always assumed grocery stores were safer because everyone is wearing masks. Not like my stupid ass co-workers
neverborne
Hubby and I work at a hotel, go to restaurants occasionally, and grocery shop. I also go to school. We wear masks but we're both pretty 1/
neverborne
Sure we had it back in February. And I feel like we would've caught it by now if we were going to. Idk, it sucks. Sorry you caught it 2/2
TheRealGritty
My fucking gma (I live with her) thinks it's a hoax because her nurse friend says they put covid on all death certificates for money
TheRealGritty
If her husband catches it, it's a death sentence. Glad to know she cares
Lexiloohoo
They.. What? Where? CoD is supposed to be a physician/coroner decision, absolutely would I get fired if I did that as a nurse
TheRealGritty
It's a big republican thing, they say if someone has a heart attack they write down covid to get money. They're stretching the concept of
