No phase. Once, always.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fascist's are scum and if anyone had that phase then they are scum as well.

4 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

This guy extrapolates 90% of the guys he knows to 90% of the whole popupation. Like no, it's not 90% of all men dipshit, it's just you and your moron friends.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And you post a meme with the "beard guy" who looks like the aryan ideal male in a nazi regime...

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I can accept some people get sucked into or are born into cults and can eventually break out. But 90% is fking insane.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm not always going to write off a decent adult who got sucked into some extremist shit as a teenager and moved past it, but there is a limit to what we should be willing to forgive. And if your "Nazi phase" lasts into adulthood and you got tattoos about it, you're beyond redemption.

4 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I don't recall a Nazi phase here. Hm.

4 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

The German-American Bund certainly had a Nazi phase in the USA. 1935 Los Angeles, German-American Bund celebration of Hitler's birthday.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That dude needs to spend time outside his nazi bubble. Many of us never had that phase.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I’m an American male. I had a communism phase, but not nazism.

4 months ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 2

Communism have never been correctly implemented yet.

4 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

For communism I think that the maximum number of people it works with is about 100. Once you have a population big enough that people don't interact regularly and don't know each other personally is when things start getting rough. And it really falls apart when you add "supervisor", "manager" and any other job meant to oversee others rather than work with as those jobs rarely add anything beneficial to anyone other than those higher up.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"90% of men are nazis" That's either a satire account or they're telling on themselves.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

4 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

wtf is a "Nazi Phase". once a nazi always a nazi. you made your choice. don't cry about the consequences

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

If we're being EXTREMELY generous to this individual, maybe they mean "90% of US men have drawn a swastika or thrown a sieg heil at least once as an edgy teenager" which I could believe but wouldn't really call a phase.

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

once you know what these symbols mean there is no reason to use them just "for fun". there is no gray area for me there

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Guys you can stop burning the strawman now, I think the "Nixon Center for Crooked Governance" was just making a sarcastic point about the state of politics.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

A Nazi phase? WTF is that? "Yeah, sorry about that genocide. I was just going through a phase..."

4 months ago | Likes 67 Dislikes 1

If they had a "phase" like that when they were 10-14, then sure, maybe, but like... Not when they are older and should know better

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sadly some dems are hypocrites, look at Platner in Maine. I think because of him susan collins will win again and dems may not retake senate

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

So, I am guessing that poster hangs around with a LOT of Nazis, cuz he is probably a fucking Nazi.

4 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

If 90% of the guys that guy hangs out with have had a "nazi phase"...he's just hanging out with nazis.

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

False consensus effect demonstrated by a single post.

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

90% My man is living in an echo chamber.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Reminds me of a guy on a messageboard ages ago who was like "rape fantasies guys amirite" and when virtually everyone was like "um no" he got extremely upset.

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Is the nazi phase what comes after my current gay phase, or did I skip over it? I'm asking so that I can properly plan for it. Can I combine the two to get it over with quicker, because those Hugo Boss uniforms...

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No, you've already skipped over it. Continue on to gay space communism, which has better human rights and much snazzier uniforms anyways.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Do you think the Nixon Center for Crooked Governance, who posts regular sarcastic attacks on capitalism and Republicans, and says he's not left or right, he sides with whichever policy does the most harm, might be some sort of satire account? A+++ trolling, everyone is attacking him for it. He's pinned it as his greatest bait of all time.

4 months ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Sure: the username does obviously signal this as an attempt at satire. But you are aware this is an actual position that actual people hold right? Well, it's at least an agenda some people are trying to push: sane washing Nazism.

Without knowing this person's larger body of work: here they just looks like a Schrodinger's Douche Bag. Spouting the nazi talking points and deflecting with, "it's just a joke look at my silly username," when called out. Lots of that in online "satire" spaces.

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Took a shockingly long scroll to see someone else read the username and recognized satire as satire.

4 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Am I the only one who thinks volunteering to kill and then reupping as a mercenary for (formerly) Blackwater is worse than *any* tattoo...?

4 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

That guy is a genuine psychopath. Revels in murder, gets sad when promoted, because no more combat roles and murder.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I really wish the tattoo weren't the biggest talking point. I mean, it's awful and unforgivable, but this freak should've been disqualified long before that even came out because because he was a fucking mercenary for an indescribably evil company.

4 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

THIS is what #notallmen should be about

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

People who had a Nazi phase grossly overestimate how many people have had Nazi phases. Similar to the way a lot of openly racist people think that everyone else has similar opinions to them, but are too scared to voice them.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I had a libertarian phase when I was 13, then I found out what it really meant and I've been comfortably crackpot designated as a socialist ever since. Hey, at 13 I thought libertarian meant the government actually worked and took care of everyone and THEN everyone got extra shit if they felt like working for it, not that no one got anything except evil bastards willing to steal from their dying mothers.

4 months ago | Likes 92 Dislikes 0

There are governments that actually work and take care of people. Eg. Canada, Northern/Western Europe, Aotearoa.

Another distinctive feature of such governments outside the geographic scope it is allowed is that the US eventually invades.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I had a libertarian phase in my 20s after I got out of the US Army, they were the only political party that was in favor of equal rights for gay and trans people at a time when it was unlawful to be gay in certain segments of society.

Then I realized they were insane.... and Murray Rothbard was no different than any other Utopian Socialist, constructing a preposterous system that ignored the greed of humanity.

4 months ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

It seems to be a common attribute of third parties in the US. In order for people to not be able to hold their nose on certain issues and vote for one of the two primary parties, they have to be pretty impassioned in their beliefs which are typically not mainstream. That seems to attract the weirdos. I took a look at the LP and saw that a common litmus test for candidates was their opinions on driver's licenses. That seemed like a pretty minor thing to fixate on, (1/2)

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

even if I did have a problem with driver's licenses (I don't). (2/2)

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So, my litmus test for a political party or candidate is, 'who among us do you think should be stripped of rights'

For the RNC that list includes basically everyone that isn't white, Christian and male... some add land-owning that list.

For the LP, it is no one... but the LP (like the RNC) does not see systemic racist structures as a thing and does not see any effort to rectify those structures as valid... they are rights-neutral, as long as the current powers retain all power.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah on a very thin surface level libertarian ideas seems ok but any look other than cursory and you realize they are fucking nuts.

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I reject the idea a “Nazi phase” is in the same hemisphere as normal.

4 months ago | Likes 212 Dislikes 0

The behavior is normalized so much in some families that they don't even understand it as prejudice but "hard truth that people don't like to hear"

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They want to normalize being a Nazi. It is not normal.

4 months ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

Is the guy posting under "center for crooked governance" not a joke poster?
That 100% looks like a joke account to me, but even if its not, the guy is still a joke, fucking nazi phase, wtf.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was on a knife's edge between the alt-right of the late 2000s and the progressive demsoc I am today. I thought Gamergate was about ethics, I hated "SJWs", found feminists annoying, and even said bullshit like "I'm socially progressive and fiscally conservative".

The kindness and patience of close friends willing to put up with my bullshit pulled me back from that edge and into the light.

Today's polarization makes me think that if I were born a decade later I'd not have been so lucky.

4 months ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

I lost my best friend to "fiscally conservative". The last time I talked to him, he was vigorously defending fascism. This makes me think it's not terminal and he might come to his senses someday.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You know the "PC babies" from South Park? That's conservatives.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yeah. I'm glad you arrived where you are now. I wasn't nearly so close, but I hung out in the right environment to have the same thing happen. Fortunately, by the time "Gamergate" happened, I was already seeing the problems with the environment and didn't fall for it.

4 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

"The kindness and patience of close friends" ranks along with "the unearned emotional labor of those impacted by your bigotry" as the top saving graces for young adults casually parroting the bigotry they've learned.

I think I'm a bit older than a lot of folks on this thread, but late-teens me was... probably kind of confusing for lot of people, because I simultaneously uncritically believed a lot of bigoted talking points of the day (racism, homophobia) and didn't "hold it against anyone" (cd)

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

anyone I actually met or interacted with. Patience and guidance from people I hadn't earned it from gave my empathy a chance to kick in and for me to start unlearning shit.

Indoctrination is real, indoctrination is insidious... and indoctrination can be reversed, but only if the person isn't too far gone to recognize the personhood of others.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If "fiscally conservative" wen't just a dog–whistle for racist the only people who actually are would be broadly on "the left" in US politics.

Would universal housing cost a pretty penny? Sure. Would it be vastly cheaper than criminalizing homelessness? Every study and test so far says "yes."

Similar things play out on issue after issue. Why spend trillions of dollars propping up fossil fuels when you could spend nothing and just let solar and wind win in the market?

4 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Anyone who is ACTUALLY fiscally conservative should be voting for Democrats, since they're the only ones that have reduced the deficit since Reagan. Republicans have increasingly driven us into even more debt, with Trump being the worst.

4 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

In fairness I know a couple people like that. They've historically identified as "ideologically republican" but voted democrat (and even occasionally green) almost every time because of fiscal conservative stuff.

That said I *think* they've maybe stopped with "identifying as republican" thing thanks to Drumpf? Or at least they don't voice that association anymore.

But yah, life–long vote blue because democrats are better conservatives than republicans are.

That last line... Congratulation on understanding what 95% of this site's users don't.

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

There's a lot of very justified anger. Unfortunately, I think that anger is counterproductive to bringing people out of fascism.

"You kill fascists with bullets, but you kill fascism with love"

As corny as it sounds, it's true. The diehards of the party probably can't be converted and either need to be banished to the margins of society or removed from it. The "little Nazis" (people who just go along with it to make their lives easy) need to be brought back to the light with arms outstretched.

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I think it was a holocaust survivor that said something like "in any conflict, there will be 10% of people on the right side no matter what, 10% on the wrong side no matter what, and 80% that can go either side."
A lot of the time, people who fall into extremist groups do so emotionally, because it makes them feel part of an in-group, more than because of the ideology.
I can never recommend this video enough: https://youtu.be/P55t6eryY3g The Alt-Right Playbook: How to Radicalize a Normie

I think I stopped lurking right around when the tide started to turn, thankfully. Once I started getting pushback I was forced to confront how much my view was just because it was the popular opinion. Sorry for my shitty teenage opinions...

It's human. The important is that you learned.
This is also why it irks me when people here act like people are unredeemable. The reality is that people are manipulable.

4 months ago | Likes 575 Dislikes 2

I had mine. Oh snap. I still stuck in that . Wait. Does 'Nazi phase' INclude being pasty white? If not, nvm then...

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 18

I managed to dodge the neo nazis trying to honey trap recruit me as a younger person. Only today I see what they were trying to do.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Only someone currently in a Nazi phase would think 90% of men had a Nazi phase.

I had a libertarian phase for about a year and a half. Then I realized how stupid it was.

4 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Same, and in defense of young people first learning about it....the ideology has a few premises that *are* important, such as bodily autonomy, and for somebody raised around conservatism that sounds downright progressive until you learn more about shit lol

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hello from a country that has a "nationalsozialistisches Wiederbetätigungsgesetz".
We do that.
We still have enough far-right blowhards to go around.

Also "90 %"... if you're serious, that tells me a lot about the people you hang around with.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had a surrogate nazi phase. Some dipshit in highschool brought mein kampf to his class. When the teacher called him out, he gave him my name because nazis are nothing if not cowards. Can't even own up to their own beliefs

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I've never personally known anyone who went through a Nazi phase.

4 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Ditto. And only someone with a very extensive or still ongoing Nazi phase thinks 90% of men have one.

I'm a German and can say I never had a Nazi phase.

4 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I was definitely more conservative when I was younger but in a "government shouldn't harass small businesses" way not a tiki torch way. i've always been anti-nazi it just didn't come up so often before

4 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

same. I grew up knowing nazis were the bad guys, and I never wanted to be a bad guy.

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I never had a nazi phase either. I did think they were snazzy dressers, though.

I was religious when I was young, which meant a few socially conservative views, but never racism. Never hated, just thought things were "sins", and that's the closest I've ever come to that. Started getting out of all that bullshit in high school.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had a 'wow darth vader looks cool' phase, and then I found Medal of Honor, Wolfenstein, Sniper Elite, and nazi exterminatus became SOP.

4 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Closest I ever came was trying to maintain a relationship with my father just before Trump's second term, as soon as I realized the only thing he was going to do was drag me over the edge, I cut ties and went no contact. He still "doesn't understand why I won't talk to him". You're a racist Nazi pedophile protector Dad.

I always knew they were the bad guys. But before I understood WHY, I did think the haircuts and outfits looked kinda cool. Not really a Nazi phase I guess. More like an aesthetic moment. But it didn't last long bc it led me to look into what they were, and after that I couldn't unsee it - they didn't look cool to me anymore. Chills me to think that some folks got the same info I did, but it made them seem even cooler to them. Gross

Watched Indiana Jones as a kid. Grew up knowing there's only one proper way to deal with Nazis. My punk / goth phase just reinforced that.

I used to think their uniforms were cool. But I never thought that wearing one was a good idea. That's about as close as I got.

I had a friend from my WoW days who once confided in me that her husband proudly collected nazi shit. She showed me a swastika flag that he kept on a web call once. Later on, she told me that he killed himself. If I'm being perfectly honest, it still makes me smile when I think about it.

4 months ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

90% of people they hang out with, and they assume everyone is like them.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Echo chambers are way more prevalent that people think. Companies deliberately design things so that you only hear positive reinforcement no matter how weird and out their your viewpoint is, so people with weird viewpoints get linked together with the millions of others with that viewpoint and think they're the majority viewpoint. It applies to most every topic and is why it's important to seek out multiple different places and not get all your content feed from one source, no matter what.

4 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Plus all the bots enhancing the echo chamber.

The last sentence is most definitely not true. I'm assuming you're talking about in the US, because the first part is about right for the US, but we've had active Neo-Nazis here doin serious shit steadily since before WWII. It is partly out of them that the current Nazi resurgence grew.
