Every republican guy I’ve talked with in the past decade has used many anti gay slurs in common banter. Not spurred on, just out of the blue. Another common thread is their references to ‘men’, as if to attempt to include themselves outwardly while simultaneously showing inwardly they aspire to one day join those ranks. Just an observation.

I have not watched a football game since 1975, but I see no reason to ban it. I do agree that it is not a wise choice to choose it as a career, because it means that those who do will suffer serious brain damage and die decades before their normal life expectancy.

I agree that banning football at the 8th grade level is the proper thing to do. It is also dangerous for highschool kids, but the colleges and pro sports venues need for kids to develop their skills in HS to supply the various college and pro teams. So I doubt that a ban through the 12th grade would be possible.

Honestly it is a fitting term for football (soccer) in other countries where teams are tied to a national identity and the hooligans are absolutely rabid and violent. Not so much for American football (hand egg).

I always wondered about that. When I was a kid I couldn’t figure out why they’d bother calling a team the World Champion in a sport that only one country plays the way we do. Canada has their own rules (forward motion before the snap will always freak me out) and Aussie and Gaelic football are different animals altogether.

Oh, and if you’re talking about rugby, the absence of padding means they don’t hit nearly as hard as they do in football. It’s sort of how bare knuckle boxing is a lot safer than standard boxing - no gloves means more damage to the person throwing the shots if they hit too hard.
Nothing wrong with rugby, it’s awesome, but the players don’t tend to last very long when they get hit at NFL levels

There is no way tackle football should ever be played by any non-adult.

Kids should not be playing it at all. It is a business first, perfectly suited for maximum ad revenue. 3 hours of air time for maybe 12 minutes of snap to whistle play. Players are just another piece of expensive equipment.

My grandfather was a football star. He taught phys ed after he retired from pro sports. He had a long and difficult decline with Alzheimer's. It was hard on our family and we miss him very much.

Rugby is awesome but they don’t get hit nearly as hard as an average NFL player. Rugby players have tried out for pro football to try and make more money. It never works out for them.

Fun fact: They have fewer serious injuries due to a lack of safety gear compared to American Football. Said safety gear is creating a false sense of security, leading to a dangerous play style. Traumatic brain injuries in particular are a huge issue among even young American Football players.
