Trump butted heads with Dr Fauci. Under Title 42 or standard civil service rules Fauci was protected from being fired or demoted for political reasons. Trump is using his congressional puppet, Rand Paul, out of spite, believing that Fauci would break under pressure, which is backfiring on them.

They were trying to weaponize the virus hoping it would wipe out black and minority communities so less dem votes. They tried to have poll watchers hawk over the vote counters, but got pissed when health workers told them to stand behind a barrier. They screwed themselves with the virus while trying to screw others

They're trying to pin Trump's mishandling of covid on fauci to see if they can once again get away with using govt to create and prosecute opponents... It sets a precedent that it's allowed, so, much like Macarthys comminish witch hunt, it will grow and grow until someone puts their foot down and says the govt is abusing its power. It's about scare mongering and also creating a new distraction from trumps crimes

A lot of Conservatives had family members die during COVID. If it's not all Fauci's fault then their grief and anger would get directed at Trump. Obviously the cult is not going to do that so every single death caused by Trump is going to be redirected to be Fauci's responsibility instead.

I firmly believe Trump downplayed the severity of COVID because it was expected to mostly affect densely-populated Blue cities. But they trusted science, masked up & vaccinated.
It was an attempt to kill Blue voters, but backfired spectacularly, killing more of his own voters because they tried to self-medicate with livestock dewormer.

That was after it was already happening, in the beginning he downplayed it because it was an emergency happening during his term. He didn’t want to get blamed for the consequences so instead of doing things to help alleviate it, he did what malignant narcissists do: blame the democrats for a hoax that they intended to use to steal the election, sowed massive distrust in doctors and vaccines and told them to protest safety mandates like social distancing and wearing masks
