#14 So to sum this up, a working antique cello costs one (1) hand made kid's dress and one (1) time juggling at a kid's party? Ok, I'm in.

#12 "You can't see the moon from that far away either but its gravity still pulls the tides. Eat my ass" The power of prose.

#29 Pretty sure communism also works.

#15 Whenever I find out someone doesn't like me, I feel terrible.

... for them, it must suck to go through life with such poor judgement.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

#15 I do this too. You thought I couldn't tell? No, i'm OCD and ADHD, not spectrum. I can most certainly tell. But i make sure to be extra nice. Bonus points for spending half my childhood in the south, so i know what "bless your heart" often means.

#12 Full agreement. For humanity, Earth is 80%, Sun 15%, Moon 5% of all things. The rest is nice to have, amazing to understand, and we would hardly have turned out differently if the rest of the Universe were quite different. So yes, we matter, you matter, because it's "us" humans living with a planet full of other living things, and beyond our atmosphere there's only cold, empty, deadly, and likely mostly dead space.

#13 Here I go with another "technically". Technically... the goth girls will be even hotter.

1 week ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

everyone will be hotter

My wife is looking forward to that.

#5 I guess a substantial number of Russia-US proxy wars apparently don't count here? I've been in the first McD location in Moscow in late 1990...

There's a great track by South Australian band Towns, called "L8tely", and it's always bugged me that the pronunciation was flawed.

Hugh Grants middle name is in fact Mungo, sorta. Hugh John Mungo Grant.

1 week ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Too bad it wasn't Hugh Mongo John Grant.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mom added Mungo after his first diaper change.

1 week ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Mungo after Saint Mungo, the Patron Saint of Glasgow.

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

#1 Not Quite. It's Hugh John Mongo Grant. Too bad they didn't name him Hugh Mongo John Grant.

#3 And one can exactly predict how "independent" the kid later will be... Here the golden rule of playgrounds and slide/climbing stuff/swing design is: only kids that can use it independently should be able to climb up by themselves. So ffs don't carry kids up playgound places they shouldn't be in.

#17 aren't raw potatoes poisonous or something, like not kill you poisonous but like make you sick poisonous.

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Some potatoes (usually green skinned ones) contain a good amount of Solanine (a toxin). Cooking does not effect the Solanine levels, but boiling reduces it considerably by offloading it into the water. That being said, raw potato starches are resistant to digestion, which can cause digestive issues. Raw potatoes also contain lectins, which inhibit absorption of nutrients.

They are part of the nightshade family.

Just like elephants

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you're close enough to an elephant they'll give you shade anytime, not just at night.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm not exactly sure what point #43 is trying to make, but I know that they've chosen the worst possible illustration of that point

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Teach us your ways

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

you just gotta wait for it

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Took me roughly 30 years.. So.. idk if my "ways" are any good..

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have to add that it overall took me 30 years, #28 was one of my lowest points and i was there for a few years, what helped was finding a purpose again.

#4 The website is still up, but maybe don't quit your day job before you find out if you're one of those 0.1%... https://www.humanmicrobes.org/donors

Skimmed through a bit and it seems like they want young athletes poop? “Anything else is deficient and defective” owell

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I didn't read it, but I guess that'd make sense. Most of us in "the West" apparently have more or less fucked up our gut biome, so young & healthy & fit takes care of some of the most obvious problems. Although now that I think about it, I'm actually surprised they're not looking for their poop among people said to still have healthy gut biomes, which IIRC are mostly remote populations of hunters and gatherers and such.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There's related diseases you can eat healthy poo to restore your gut biome. They put it in a pill

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You have a really good point there. That would make much more sense but probably harder to study stool samples from remote tribes, imagine trying to explain to a tribe in the amazon that you just want their poop lol. Could be worth it

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Since you know they'd only pay them a pittance, if anything, there's no way it wouldn't be worth it financially, so I'm sure they'd find some more or less ruthless way to get the poop. But it seems they're not doing it, so maybe it's not feasible for some other reason. Maybe those biomes are too different from ours and that won't work or something.

#46 Respectfully disagree. That cluttered home is triggering my cortisol just thinking about being in there.

The barren grey wasteland isn’t what I’d describe as “sexy” either, but I’m much more likely to stay and maybe get naked in that one.

1 week ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

What I find 'sexy' is the sheer amount of space both those homes have, knowing that some of those rooms will be bigger than the apartment I can afford. But also there's a huge difference between messily cluttered and surgically barren. Homes should be colourful and lived in, but they can also be tidy and organised.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I feel like I’d have an easier time getting a partner with the grey apartment to loosen up and add some color than I would getting the one with the cluttered apartment to organize and purge!

I’m also very anti “dust collector” - I have very few tschochkes on display.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That latter ikea shoebox is just describing the stale void of what the residents inner thoughts. There's probably not even a bookshelf in that place. Never trust a person who doesn't have a bookshelf.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don’t have a bookshelf - not really… I just get all my books from the library or give away any that I buy when I’m done with them. I’m not a rereader and I can’t stand “dust collectors”.
