Want to put it out there that there are a lot of communities with 0 tolerance to bullying, racism, anti-pride, etc. anything out there much more popular but those aren’t “completely guaranteed safe” because though mods do their best as often as possible, when you have 150 people on at any given time, 20 mods can’t catch every dm and every message or read every sign but every report is given due attention. It’s nice that they made such a strictly safe server, but it kinda looks vanilla & empty
If you can’t see the benefit of providing a safe place to 18 people with a minimal time investment for their long term benefit then I don’t think you understand how a society should operate. We’re trying to have one of those over here.
Concurrent* players. That's a big difference. A few dozen concurrent players means a handful of active villages, which is fine. A few dozen (monthly or weekly or even daily) active players means roughly one person on the.server at any moment.
Dependin on when this started, I bet they had some banger nights of +100 people. But then again, they probably wouldn't want a crowd. Too much over-stimuli.
Blacklist = by default everyone have access, except people in the list who are blocked. Whitelist = by default no one has access, only people in the list are allowed.
quite literally the opposite of being "blacklisted". Basically saying "this person is kosher", vs blacklisted's "this person deserves nothing but scorn"
The thing about minecraft servers is... Most people only play on them for a few weeks, they might pop back in to do a little more every few weeks but chances are they aren't sticking around.
Im on a server with a very active community, we reset every year and for the first month we have about 15 people on the server at any given time, 40 or so active players. by the end of the month its 2-3 online and 8-10 active. 6 months in its 0-1 online and 3-5 active, everyone comes back for the last week.
I was just wondering how the hell they moderate the server. Im guessing by whitelisting it means the server is invite only and maybe has some vetting in place. Good to know.
Yeah basically instead of a ban list the have an allow list of ips/usernames and everyone else has to contact the server admins to connect and play before being allowed on the server.
The games been out over a decade. 19k is absolutely doable if you've got people doing a few vettings a day.
I run a game server with about 3600 people in it, all vetted as 18+. We've been around for about 3 years, did all of those manually cause i don't trust any of the automated services to handle my players IDs.
I don’t think the vetting is age verification. Since the server was developed in response to bullying it implies a way to verify the personal quality of a member, which isn’t possible. Is it as easy to verify an autism diagnosis as someone’s age? This is a false equivalency.

Great work Dad!

Why can't we have more of this and less of the fucked up shit? It would be so easy.
Jewdakris
I like how the dad kinda looks like Jack Black. Makes it all go full circle.

Everything BUT the bullying part, I hope?

I mean cool, but... Can't you just play Minecraft solo without being online? I don't get it.
Wadef4
Some people like the community aspect. I know some of my most fun online memories were made on a server.
OliverClothesoff70
Did anyone else think the dad in the thumbnail was Jack Black? No? Just me? OK.

I thought all Minecraft player were on the spectrum.
Khanamana324
Fuck off with the ableism bub, that shit ain’t welcome here.

I can laugh at my own spectrum

1)Minecraft was one of those green arrows for me that hard points toward my unconfirmed OCD. It definitely soothes the other urges and ticks

A Minecraft server for autistic children, isn't that like "a car for people who want to go places in a hurry but don't like public transportation"?
MusicPenguin
Marketing is going to marketeer.
Leonon
Some of us are autistic adults.
WackyWavingInflatableArmFlailingTubman
I do not understand the analogy. You dont like/have public buying a car is exactly what you do?
astrangehop
Implying that all Minecraft servers are a majority autistic children.

I wonder how many train stations have been built
ChaLeGai
And they're made by autistic people, so you know they're good.
Aefinn
Apparently they now have 19k whitelisted names but at the same time, only 18 active players right now. Not 18k. 18.
JbWock
There's 32 right now. The server is doing well

It’s a hard game to play in perpetuity. Takes a lot of time, patience, and dedication. Planning and preparation.
Feralkyn
Time zones may well be a thing, if they're a regional server

As an aspy, not sure I'd care if I had to stay up til 11pm to game with my fellow deepherders.

Who would have thought, a niche community doesn’t have a lot of people. But I guarantee that those 18 absolutely love that server.
Aefinn
Oh I bet that they absolutely are loving it and I love that 🙂

19k vetted suggests automation to entry, but I would expect there’s some zero tolerance moderation happening.

A weaponized server of 17k autistic minecraft players could've recreated a 1-1 scale of the State of Missouri.
I bet their server has some banger constructions.
