Want to put it out there that there are a lot of communities with 0 tolerance to bullying, racism, anti-pride, etc. anything out there much more popular but those aren’t “completely guaranteed safe” because though mods do their best as often as possible, when you have 150 people on at any given time, 20 mods can’t catch every dm and every message or read every sign but every report is given due attention. It’s nice that they made such a strictly safe server, but it kinda looks vanilla & empty

Concurrent* players. That's a big difference. A few dozen concurrent players means a handful of active villages, which is fine. A few dozen (monthly or weekly or even daily) active players means roughly one person on the.server at any moment.

Blacklist = by default everyone have access, except people in the list who are blocked.
Whitelist = by default no one has access, only people in the list are allowed.

The thing about minecraft servers is... Most people only play on them for a few weeks, they might pop back in to do a little more every few weeks but chances are they aren't sticking around.
Im on a server with a very active community, we reset every year and for the first month we have about 15 people on the server at any given time, 40 or so active players. by the end of the month its 2-3 online and 8-10 active. 6 months in its 0-1 online and 3-5 active, everyone comes back for the last week.

I was just wondering how the hell they moderate the server. Im guessing by whitelisting it means the server is invite only and maybe has some vetting in place. Good to know.

Yeah basically instead of a ban list the have an allow list of ips/usernames and everyone else has to contact the server admins to connect and play before being allowed on the server.

19k vetted suggests automation to entry, but I would expect there’s some zero tolerance moderation happening.

The games been out over a decade. 19k is absolutely doable if you've got people doing a few vettings a day.
I run a game server with about 3600 people in it, all vetted as 18+. We've been around for about 3 years, did all of those manually cause i don't trust any of the automated services to handle my players IDs.

I don’t think the vetting is age verification. Since the server was developed in response to bullying it implies a way to verify the personal quality of a member, which isn’t possible. Is it as easy to verify an autism diagnosis as someone’s age? This is a false equivalency.
