#29 if you're like me and need the translation, "bougie" is short for "bourgeoisie" and means something swanky or high class. Usage here is to find out how your girl likes to treat herself, what she likes to splurge on. (I was today years old when I learned that)
RagtimeRaver
#13 This was me with reading. An older kid I hated was learning how to read and I was determined to beat him by learning it first and doing it better.
DJTrickyM
#2 idk i often find it like off brand products better...I often look for store brand alternatives just to try them

#43 I loved that episode

#22 Hate to brake it to you, but that's still daddy issues. No men being good enough because dad is the best? Yeah, that's daddy issues. (I would know, I have those.)
GigglySprinkleCupcake
Good daddy issues
isetprettygirlsonfire
#22 yeah, no daddy issues, just a daddy kink

#8 Tangentially related: I was trying to get some of my meds switched because of, shall we say, digestive discontent. Insurance refused. I went back and forth with them about it. Insurance refused.
So I vented on Twitter (pre-Elon). Didn't bother tagging the company, just said "if you don't believe me that there's a problem, I will drive to your office in Richmond and shit on your floor."
They got back to me within 24 hours.
GigglySprinkleCupcake
Twitter used to be really helpful for those things

#9 I worked with an 'accused murderer' once, the person he was accused of killing was a rapist, and my workmate is pretty sure the cops were careful to not do a very good job on their accusation. My workmate was in therapy and is the nicest of people.

Sounds like he just provided a public service

#33 Honestly "Richard the Treacherous" is a better description of him, because "tricky" may imply that they are clever or sly, but Nixon was far more of a rat bastard than that.
SecurityBadger
#38 A variation on the "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." adage.

#29 My wife is furniture bougie - not necessarily expensive, just fancy. We have multiple free curio cabinets, we fit an impossibly big buffet into her Prius, and once spent two full days acquiring a 12ft wide German shrunk for our basement all for the cost of time and a Penske truck. Almost every piece is wood/glass/leather, and we WILL tell you the story for each one.
She will, anyway - I'm a big fan of candy that makes you forget things.

Per your caption about #8, people who are critical of others food are the worst. One simple rule, if it's not on your plate (or in your cup) then your opinion doesn't really matter. Medium rare is the best way to cook a steak? Oh cool. So order/make yours that way and shut the fuck up about everybody else's steak. They're not force feeding you theirs. Like seriously... is somebody offering you a hundred bucks if you can get five people to order what they don't want?
FetteredJuvenescence
Exception: If I bought the steaks, and you want yours cooked further than medium? You're getting a cheap steak. You are not ruining one of my expensive filet mignons.
GravyEducation
That's cool. That's one of my caveats. Free food should come as whoever is making it feels like preparing it. Beggars can't be choosers
GigglySprinkleCupcake
My caveat is MY children’s plates. I only care about their food because it’s my job. Hubby? He’s a grown man. He doesn’t need my input.
iynque
#2 I always buy the store brand pop tarts because they’re so much cheaper. One time I decided to buy some name brand Pop Tarts and they were so bland, dry, and with a pathetic smear of frosting. They’re SO BAD. Seriously, if you’ve never tried the store brand ones you should. The real ones are a fraction of the flavor and they charge so much more money for them. It’s truly shocking how much worse they are.
GigglySprinkleCupcake
I grew up on store brand. Hubby is bougie about food.
BraveStrawberry
#5 at least they aren’t growing up to be the kind of men who get uncomfortable or angry at the mere mention of a period. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
GigglySprinkleCupcake
Good point!

#23 I used to know a lady named Candy, who married my friend Peter Dyck. She goes by Candace now

#22 Unironically, this is why being a supportive parent matters. Teaches your kids to have standards.

#29 I'm good bougie. Cooking is a huge hobby to me and something I make a day out of. I don't buy necessarily name brands but just high quality ingredients even for simple dishes. Because it's fun. I do buy cheap stuff for just whatever cooking and go cheap on frozen food cause honestly I like cheap frozen food. But I've got a stocked kitchen of spices, high quality cookware, knives I meticulously upkeep and lots of foreign ingredients I guard from roommates.

#28 I made the switch away from a landline to my cell phone in 2008, which was a bit prior to that being common. It caused some suspicion of me from the locals. "You ain't from these parts, are ye?*
DdCno1
I got a proto-smartphone that year. Large touchscreen (for the time), but Java-based, with a stylus and 2G only. Still able to browse the Internet and play back (locally stored) videos. I was usually the only person in public with such a device and got bewildered looks all the time, as if I wasn't from these parts - and by that I mean this planet. Even two years later with my first real smartphone, the overwhelming majority weren't yet aware of this device category and were confused/suspicious.

#26 The Fitz- prefix means "bastard descendant of". So "Fitzhenry"s were begotten by some Henry or another, quite possibly Henry VIII.
I have no knowledge of the etymology of the "gibbons" part, however.
GigglySprinkleCupcake
Oh yeah, I had forgotten about that!
GimcrackGewgaw
So, "bastard son of a monkey"?
AntaNce
That works for me.

#15 I want this to be a real book
GigglySprinkleCupcake
Right?
ddubya42
#26 Gibbons aren't "great" apes, they're "lesser" apes. Still apes tho.
Shaddak
And apes are technically a kind of monkey!
JustJimWillDo
Oook!
ddubya42
nooooo.... apes and monkeys are primates
Shaddak
It's a nested hierarchy. Ape is a subset of monkey
ddubya42
are you trolling? apes and monkeys are separate subspecies of primate, just like humans. apes are not monkeys.
Shaddak
Not trolling. https://paoloviscardi.com/2011/04/21/apes-are-monkeys-deal-with-ita> Relevant picture if you don't plan on reading that. //i.imgur.com/KhZttMX.png
PeakExponent
https://monkeys.alloftheanimals.com/are-apes-and-humans-members-of-the-same-clade.html You can't evolve out of a clade. Apes (and by extension Humans) are in the Monkey Clade.
PeakExponent
In a similar manner; Humans are also Fish. You cannot evolve out of a clade.

#45 I have a green weighted blanket, it's also a bamboo material that almost feels like silk.
GigglySprinkleCupcake
That sounds nice! Link?

GigglySprinkleCupcake
I like the green one!

I didn't really like green until I was gifted that one, now I'm thinking of painting a room green.
GigglySprinkleCupcake
I love green all of the sudden. Used to hate it.
