Assume passenger in right lane car because the driver was just thinking about following the other cars in left lane. But Passenger who can actually see the big slide had all ready told driver if I say reverse reverse as fast as you can
Backing up on a highway is illegal. More importantly it's very likely to get you killed by someone driving 80mph who doesn't realize what's happening in time to stop. So you don't back up further than you think you absolutely have to.
I'm wondering why the last car decided to back up at all instead of just following the black car forward, which seems like it would've been the fastest option to get out of there.
Was probably aware of an incoming landslide, familiar with what can happen. You notice they JERK to a stop when the first rock tumbles out in front of the car.
We had a landslide derail a train here recently, just half an hour from me, with fatalities. Rocks do not fuck around. I think it was the smart choice.
