Amazing! I've posted similar thoughts in all kinds of REDDIT forums and it never ceases to amaze me how many toothless knuckle draggers come running to the aid of the wealthiest in the comments screaming about how taxes are evil and I'm out of my mind as if somehow they will also one day have multiple million dollar homes.
All I think anyone wants is for the wealthiest to pay more on their assets and income so that EVERYONE else can just not suffer.

Why limit to $5M+ homes? Tax all second homes owned by out of state residents. If if's not your primary home, it *should* be taxed more heavily. Even if the tax encourages some wealthy person to sell his $10M mansion, it's not like some normal person looking for a house is going to buy it.

I saw a related thing a few days ago about a one time tax on the ultra wealthy and all the standard arguments came up and my question at that point is how come we can’t also make a tax on leaving. Let’s say the one time tax is 5%, make the tax to leave 15%, and there’s functionally a 10% penalty like early withdrawal from a qualified retirement account. They are free to leave, but they pay an idiot tax. Make leaving painful. Or they can pay 5% and “shut the fuck up.”

I don't live in Albany so I don't really know Hochul as well as somebody who lives in New York apparently. Is this the same Governor whose donors are running a $10,000,000 lobbying campaign against a tax increase on the rich? The same woman who hauled in $4.5 million largely from real estate donors three years ago? Because that's who I know I would trust to legislate raising taxes on the rich.

It's "who" when it's the subject and "whom" when it's the object. In this case it should be "who".
Easy way to remember is by restructuring the phrase and using a different pronoun. "Who" becomes "he" and "whom" becomes "him". So in this case it would make sense to say "he lives outside of the city" but not "him lives outside of the city".

Lucky. I'm just a hater making old angry people noises at gentrification. Also i hit a slump and have been poor for a long time and shit just sucks for me, so I'm just blaming random shit. Though, lower population (traffic, amount of people in grocery stores, etc) would be nice. I don't want to use the word depression, but it's really hard for me to do anything about improving my situation. Bootstraps are emotionally and/or mentally out of my price range so i can't even lift myself up.

Lmao. I live in Silicon Valley. Two things will keep them here: (1) it's where there competitors are, so there's a gigantic pool of talent on tap for staff-ups, (2) it's very nearly the best weather in the continental US. Our taxes are high here, but like, annoying high, not "I'm going to move because of taxes" high. The COL is totally unmanageable though, that's what kills us. Starter homes are like $750k+ in the outskirts and poor areas. Starters near tech can easily be 2x-3x that.

A Socialist Rifle Association is pretty much spot on. "Under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered; any attempt to disarm the workers must be frustrated, by force if necessary." It wasn't in the modern US 2nd Amendment sense, but to form civic guards and to back up the strike if necessary. Danish labour unions formed rifle clubs to train, for example, because of the history of police attacking unarmed demonstrators and strikers (Such as the Battle of the Commons in 1872).

That sounds plausible. Nevertheless the world around myself (western europe) evolved into a place where guns are very rare in a socialist context. Private ownership of them is very low, socialist groups don't advocate arms at all, and you don't see gun culture in the foreground outside of American TV and Movies.
I guess America and Europe are truly different societies. Hard to judge it if you haven't experienced both I guess.

Don't make the mistake to see (European) socialism and communism as the same thing because they aren't. And i don't say there is no place for arms as law enforcement is always needed as are armies until we learn to truely share everything. But marrying socialism and guns is a big contradiction in my book.
