I agree with her and I'm happy she won, but legislation alone will not fix the damage done by Republicans. Biden passed legislation that would have made a huge difference for climate. Trump clawed it back and destroyed it day one, with executive orders SCOTUS would never have let stand if they weren't as corrupt as he is. They will never allow legislation to fix anything.
Yep, that is exactly how I feel about it. We aren't the only ones who did jackshit or the bare minimum either. Europe did better but it was still the bare minimum of better. So now we get to fry. Despite knowing about this bullshit since before I was born.
DeGette hadn’t had to defend her 30 year position because of the Democrat party policy of not challenging an incumbent and ‘waiting your turn’. It was a pleasure watching her crash out.
And the worst part of all of this, to me anyway, is that a large number of citizens genuinely don't believe it's real. We managed to fix the hole in the ozone layer, but if that problem had been found during this era, we would have made the hole bigger. Every single person on this planet is fucked if we don't decide our lives and our world are worth more than approx 650 specific people's wallets.
The established politicians want to get elected in order to get rich accepting bribes (aka donor money) from PAC's and corporations while doing squat for citizens. Their only goal; make as much money as possible. We need people like Melat Kiros in Congress.
Sadly... her and others like her are and will be buried by the flood of bribe money that will pave the way for more people happy to pave over nature and burn the fucking air we breath so they can buy another sailboat or swazikacar and call themselves progressive. Fuck this timeline. The ones who will be standing around alone in their bunkers for the final 50 years any human exists on the planet will think they won by dooming our entire race(along with the countless other lifeforms)
I'm so glad Milat Kiros won the primary. She's not in my district but it's a step toward telling the DNC that they're not doing enough and their candidates need to be better if they want to win.
That's the whole point of primaries. Signal to the bosses, hey, we need change. People complain that the establishment dems are terrible, and yet they don't care since they kept winning. Very much like Ted Cruz, everyone says they hate him, yet he wins every time. At least we are finally primarying DINOs and blue dog dems.
I am not sure if this is true, but the Chinese have created an underwater data center that runs on wind power. It uses the surrounding water to cool the data center. But that raises the question of creating a messed-up microclimate next to the underwater datacenter and what the ramifications are. https://www.wired.com/story/china-opens-worlds-first-wind-powered-underwater-data-center/
Yeah, directly heating the oceans is just removing the middle-man of heating up the atmosphere first - it surely works for a small amount of underwater data centers to have "no" impact, but the thermal energy still stays in the global system.
I am trying to look at the Chinese underwater data center as a better idea because they are not using obscene amounts of potable drinking water for AI to make fake nudes of celebrities. It is also stated that they are using much smaller amounts of energy.
I have a theory thats not perfect but IMHO it has legs. We had a better understanding of service and sacrifice in our country back when, when the members in office were mostly or largely full of people who had served in some capacity during WW2 what did we see? They served again. We lost that, the mere idea of sacrificing for another American is a weakness now. Service is about getting, not giving these days. We need a better pool of candidates and I think the horrible reality is we're going to
get that as we see here. Its good but its built on horrible shit, its good but its because of all the ignored warnings. Imagine when the school shooting generation is the majority of voters or as she said, those growing up with the warnings about climate change. We're in an era, thanks to MAGA(teaparty before), in which integrity/nuance/sacrifice/duty... are all bad words. Its cultural, we need to shift that and the only times I've seen major shifts is from tragedy. Humanity fucking sucks.
Given that this administration is trying to muddy the election waters already, I will take nothing as certain until it's done and irrevocable. So get out the vote for her.
She has not won yet. It is very important that people in her district still show up to the polls and vote. If they dont, then the republicans will take the seat instead.
If people show up and vote, then sure. But people believing someone is going to win because everyone else will show up and vote is how you end up with a republican sitting in that seat instead.
I live here. People definitely show up at elections in this area especially this year because we are electing a new governor and the Republican candidate is a big time wing nut. Look up Victor Marx. Voter turnout is not going to be a problem.
I am just not a fan of people saying it's a garauntee, and voting isn't an issue. That's how you end up with republicans on your local school board in a fairly left leaning district like mine. We had horrible turnout due to kamalas' election run, and for some reason, people thought not voting would only affect the federal election. So now we are banning Trans supportive books and issuing rules like boys can't have girl hair.
I just always push people to vote because not voting has consequences.

Melat Kiros is laying it all out. DeGette is one of the corrupt dinosaurs holding us back.

Fuck. No wonder she got the nomination

Even DeGette’s attack ads against her looked like an ad to vote for Kiros.

Shocking that a young person cares about the planet, while those old fossils will soon leave keeps fucking it up

I was thinking this today about Mitch McConnell and how hatred of him is bipartisan, and yet, he's been in Congress for 40 years.

Been. News is he's effectively dead.

Yeah, I heard someone at his house was given CPR and statistically something like 85% of people in that scenario don't survive.

But if it's wind powered the thermal energy is at least from the sun's heat so it's net neutral.

People keep saying she hasn't won yet but it's the Denver seat. Democrats always win by 50-60%.

Not elected yet, just won the primary.

Gotcha. Thanks!

I live just north of her district. She is 100% going to win the general election. Her district is Denver which is the deepest blue area of Colorado.
