EVER tried to get a DOG into your wallet!??!?

Some countries have bans on plastic bags (Kenya comes to mind), but you can get decent polyester ones from the dollar store for the same purpose (putting dirty clothes in, use as a wet toiletries bag, bathing suit bag, et.)

3 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

my trick..I can't afford to fly

3 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 2

AIRLINES HATE THIS ONE SIMPLE TRICK!

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They also hate when more railroad tracks get built.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The pillow one is shitty behaviour. Next time your flight is late departing, notice how much time was wasted on people who blew past their carry-on limit in an aircraft with a fixed amount of storage per person.

3 years ago | Likes 212 Dislikes 1

The usual way I've seen that hack done is you bring the pillowcase and fill it with 𝘴𝘰𝘧𝘵 things (sweaters and such) not keyboards. And then you just actually use it as a pillow at your seat.

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Yep, this is a dick move. There isn't room in the overhead for all your extra crap. You're making it so someone else has to gate check their carry-on. If you're putting it under your seat, fine, but otherwise, you're just an asshole if you do this.

3 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Agreed. One might also deem it uncouth or boorish, but only one word truly captures the essence of such behavior: ratchet.

3 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 3

My favorite tip for easing the stress of air travel is not being able to afford air travel. Subscribe to my channel for more life strategies like, "Not worrying about retirement by never retiring" and "Saving money on home maintenance by never owning a home."

3 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 2

get affordable car maintenence costs by not owning a car!

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Unfortunately the person that stole my wallet just hissed and batted it away after opening it. They were a cat burglar.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

If I could add one: wear a jacket with zipper pockets, and before getting to security, empty your pant pockets into the jacket pockets, and you just have to plop your jacket in a bin and away you go. No fishing for your stuff out of the bin at the end either.

3 years ago | Likes 288 Dislikes 1

I've always done that, it just seemed the most efficient way to get through all that crap.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

This works for any time you go through a scanner, like at sporting events or a court house!! It's so much simpler if you do it this way!!

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's so much simpler to always bring a special jacket every time you go through a scanner, dig all the stuff out of your pockets and put them in other pockets, take your coat off, go through security, take all the stuff back out of your second pockets and back in your first pockets, then carry around or wear your special jacket until you leave, compared to... Taking the stuff out of your pockets, go through security, then put the stuff back in your pockets? Okay...

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Then when you get through, you can just stuff the jacket back into your pants pocket!

3 years ago | Likes 73 Dislikes 0

Omg this. Works all the time!

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I always just put my phone and wallet in my personal item/carryon while at the checkpoint. No need for extra things to pack.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yep I make sure my pockets are empty when I get dressed, and then I don't use them till I'm past security.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I typically put wallet / keys / phone etc into my carry-on prior to security. Same result.

3 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

I stick it in the outer pocket of the carryon/laptop bag when I don't carry a jacket.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I do something similar with a ziploc baggie. I park at a remote lot and while I'm on the shuttle over, I empty my keys, change, pens, wallet (minus ID), etc into the baggie and stuff it in a specific zipper pocket of my backpack. Then I'm not in line at security dumping a bunch of random small shit in bowls. I just send the backpack through the scanner and when I get settled on the other side, put things back in my pocket (minus those I won't need anyway until I return, like my car keys).

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'll have to try that with cargo shorts. See if the TSA has a "pants optional" scanner!

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Cargo shorts get me super scanned by TSA. Quit wearing them the 3rd time it happened.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I mean, they're going to look right through them anyway. Taking them off just saves everyone a step, so really, you're doing them a favor.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

#4 The water bottle thing drives me crazy. A bottle of water that you bought at a grocery store for maybe $1 gets taken away from you so you have to buy THE EXACT SAME BRAND for several times as much.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Then they throw the "possible bomb" in a container with lots of other possible bombs, thus maximizing the potential damage if they are actually bombs.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have been informed that the water bottles might contain materials to make bombs rather than actually being bombs. Not sure if that's better or worse.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For the first one, if you want to fall asleep easily go with the album “weightless” by Marconi union. It was specifically designed for that purpose and, at least for me, is incredibly effective

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The video for "weightless" combined with the sound... unbelievable. I ise it when clients are having panic attacks. Put it on the computer screen, turn off the lights and come back in 10 mins. Always helps. Also "Intro" by The XX is a good one if not a little more beat.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought the wallet pics were to whip out to encourage the person sitting next to you to pull back from indulging in any long boring conversations.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I travel a lot and have done so for 20 years and I can say that some of these are crap. Demand better hotel and coupons? No way. They will just politely tell you this is standard and that's it. Pillows from home? If you try to argue a technicality like "it's not specified in your policy" they'll just "nevertheless" you (who brings pillow anyways??)generally speaking, don't be a dick. Download your Playlist and load up your kindle and just be a decent human being and you'll be fine.

3 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 0

That was the one that jumped out to me as laughably naive. They give you the bare-fucking minimum that they have to by law for delays. Where you can negotiate for more is when you are voluntarily giving up a seat on an oversold flight, but even then only to a point. When they whole plane is delayed and everyone is being put in a hotel...it is the closest, cheapest one they have a pre-existing deal with. Period. They don't magically upgrade you just because you thought to ask.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Exactly. This notion that there's a "magic line" that you utter and everyone just looks at each other and smiles then gives you everything you want is idiotic. This is how you get Karens talking about their rights.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

... why would you carny five wallets? thats silly.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The trick is to make it a picture of the children and pets of whoever finds it. Go full Twilight Zone on them. Guarantee they'll be invested in finding you to ask some questions

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Don't even need dog/baby pics. Just have a cancer/chemo doctor business card and a note scrawled out with: Live long enough for little Timmy's birthday.

the packing shit like a keyboard in a full sized pillow and no one will bother you advice is probably because you look crazy. lol

3 years ago | Likes 334 Dislikes 4

Keyboard? i have a whole laptop in there.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I’m shocked this is too comment. As someone who used to work for the si airlines, you don’t like “crazy” at all. Game the system, y’all…..GO GET IT

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

I kinda did this by accident on a trip and had no problems. I put my laptop sleeve in my full size pillow just because it was easier to carry. They had me take it out and then go through scanner separately. No issues and only a minute delay for the second scan.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

People pack all sorts of things in carry-on items and clothing. This is actually a really common practice. Security will check it out but they don’t handle fees or carry on regulations so by the time you are at the gate the stuff is already out of sight again and you can take it straight on to the plane

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Security is definitely going to have questions when they x-ray that. If anything, that will probably prompt them to open your luggage and check it thoroughly because you're now confirmed to be the type of person to hide electronics in places they don't belong. What else are you hiding?

3 years ago | Likes 70 Dislikes 3

I have D.B. Cooper in my carry-on.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

how does Wilmer Diaz do it lol

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

….what? You don’t pack a pillow in your luggage…..

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Right, but when security sees that you have the keyboard in your pillow as carry-on they're gonna wanna look at EVERYTHING

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

This right here.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

eh, it's not that serious. as someone who used to travel monthly with tons of electronics and cables, you might get a manual check every once in a while, but if you have everything well organized in your bag, its not very likely. they'll take a cursory look and let you go on your way

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

in what way is a keyboard in a pillow "well organized in your bag"?

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

But did you carry those inside a pillow? Where you carry things makes a difference. I guarantee you that if I hid gum inside my shoe soles, they would immediately consider me suspicious.

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

"everything well organized in your bag" is the key

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

tbf i rarely had everything well organized. i carried a full switchblade from north america to canada and back and didnt realize until i unpacked tbh. i got checked once and they basically gave up after a 30s look

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wish I could have seen this yesterday! 1.5hr layover turned into 8 hours!!!!

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

I don't see how any of the "hacks" would have been useful.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Bringing an empty bottle to refill in the terminal, upgrading my seat would have been a good idea. The food was bad at the restaurant I went to and the service was horrible! I wish someone would have told me to waste my money somewhere else

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

now this is 1st world problems

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Buy a squirt bottle, fill it with Gatorade, peel off some Windex labels and put them onto the bottle. When you get to security and they tell you that there is no way you can take a full bottle of window cleaner through, drink it while maintaining eye contact.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

#8 also applies to ski resorts. When you’re chasing pow in a forest that is lightly tracked out, and you’re given a fork in your line, fade left. Left is always fresher than right.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Imagine having the money to afford to fly places frequently enough that you develop so-called 'hacks' for it.

3 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

it might be for work, not vacations

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If a job needs you to fly around frequently i get the feeling that job could have been done by someone on sight or remotely. should cost companies alot to use planes to send data from A to B wrapped in a human body. maybe so much that business travels seize all together.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

#7 so, be careful with this one. While true, I made the same experience, many cheap airlines in Europe like Ryanair or WizzAir state specifically in their flight information that gate checkin is to be paid extra. RyanAir charges up to a whooping 70€ for that. So change #7 to: Read the airline information carefully!

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If there's something you need for an extended stay that isn't allowed on the plane but is too expensive/unique to buy once you get there, ship it to wherever you're staying. Same goes if you just don't trust the airline not to break it. Don't get me wrong, UPS and FedEx aren't much better, but at least you can pack it with plenty of cushioning. Saw people do this with electric commuting device batteries like for a One Wheel, scooter, or skateboard since they often aren't allowed on flights.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I can't imagine the scenario where I need my Onewheel so badly I'd go through all the trouble of pre-shipping the battery to a hotel in advance of travel.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

also double check the baggage insurance limit if you're flying with something expensive. iirc it's usually in the realm of a few hundred bucks.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

sports or musical instruments? Check the airline information how they handle that. If they say "free to bring to cabin", you're golden because they make room for it in the overhead. If they say "must be checked in" you can always buy a second seat for it (if it's an affordable flight of course)

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also, if it's REALLY expensive, doesn't fit in the overhead, and you don't want to risk losing it, just buy two seats and put it in the extra one.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Another trick is to buy an additional seat and use that one for the instrument.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I get it, I made a mistake by glancing past the last line of what I replied to at 5 am.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So just ship the battery, not the whole thing right? And airlines will allow you to check in the rest of it without the battery?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep, they just have limits on the capacity of device batteries allowed on commercial flights, generally 100Wh max. If they critically fail, it's dangerous for the entire plane. You can ship the whole thing if you don't want to fit it in your luggage though. The problem with that is that as heavy as some of these batteries are, they are still only a fraction of the device's overall weight. I have an Exway Flex longboard myself, which is around 17 lbs. The battery isn't even half of that weight.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Neat I gotta try that, thank you!

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You are also not allowed to ship those batteries with UPS, FedEx etc if it involves air travel. For the exact same reason by the way.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but airlines ONLY go by air and so the answer is just "no." FedEx can also ship by ground, it's just slower and more expensive.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuck #6. airlines have pre determined hotels they have coupons with. Add into the stress of an entire flight of passengers needing help, often around 9pm or later. Even if they give you a coupon, you still have to check into the hotel. They ran out of rooms and couldn't do anything for me. Was so pissed and tired I just slept in the terminal.

3 years ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 0

My last flight got canceled so some 150 people needed totalk to the same two airline staff. Took hours. Then, come two o’clock am, a line of 40-50 of us are in line at the same hotel with m a single dude working the counter. Took forever and I felt really bad for him.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

and as a bartender at a hotel restaurant - after they check in all those angry people go at once to get a drink from the 1 bartender remaining and treat her like shit too

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Tbh, I’m a bartender, but have never worked in hotels. The hotel in question’s bar was long closed so there wasn’t an opportunity, but I would personally love a rush for 40-50 people at the end of the shift. Figure there’s no chance you wouldn’t make money, but idk hotel clientele

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just imagine how pissed they are, cancelled flight, waiting for hotel voucher, waiting for hotel room. and there’s only seating for 27, so they seat themselves in the unattended restaurant and look pissed no one is coming to serve them. it keeps happening but there’s no way to staff for it.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The money isn’t really worth people lashing out at you, at least not for me anymore.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had issue with that for other reasons. Depending on where you are, you might be limiting your chances for much better compensation when you get some crappy food coupons. Especially for flights within/to/from EU, there's *good* compensation for delays. If your flight is a few hours late, you get hundreds of euros back and - if you have to pay for your own meals & refreshments because you weren't offered them by the airline - compensation for reasonable expenses. The last thing I'd ever do if >

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

my flight is late is just go to the airline. I'll take absolutely minimum things that they offer me, and then expense them afterwards everything else I feel I reasonably need. If your flight isn't regulated by the EU, maybe just begging the company from some extra vouchers is the best you can get... But please do some googling, check what you're entitled to in your location, an make sure you accept nothing less than that as some alternative compensation.

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Yes, in the US it's generally unlikely to receive any significant compensation. When there is an issue it's generally a large issue, or at minimum an entire flight and when that happens in the US they just throw up their hands mostly. In Canada its even worse. They cancel flights and offer no hotels, and close down their check in area when there are issues. Air Canada is the absolute worst but they are supported by the gov. and therefore, unfortunately, don't have competition and can't fail.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Points 1 & 2. Bring something to read or listen to on the plane. Wow, what an amazing hack.

3 years ago | Likes 93 Dislikes 0

I usually go on amazon prime and download some free videos to my tablet. Binged the entire first season of stargate atlantis on my flights to/from japan recently.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Most of these are honestly. Nr 4: bring your own water bottle to save money! Nr 8: to get through security, pick the shortest line! Nr 12: seats have movable armrests! Nr 15: go in off-season, it is cheaper!

3 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

#4 is especially dumb. I don't leave my house without a nalgene, much less go travel. I did once forget to empty it and had to drink a liter of water in front of security so they'd let me go in. That was a little rough.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That right handed thing is bullshit too. Most airports don’t let you queue up for a single conveyor, instead it’s one line for multiple of them and when it’s your turn you pick the first available spot.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i am going to be honest. It wasnt until 2 months ago i thought about the water bottle thing. I'd pack it in checked luggage and then fill at the hotel. Never occured to me to just empty it. Also for some stupid reason i thought you couldnt bring food through security until my gf told me.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Some airports they get cranky. In DC once (I forget which airport) they were making people throw it away. Haven't seen that dune 8 though

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*since

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

idk about the rest but #3 and #6 are bullshit

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 4

I have done #3 several times and have gotten upgrades for as little as $75.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Travel agent here. Always search both economy and business, especially on domestic flights. It’s surprising how often business is only ~100-200 more than Econ.

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

wrt first class yes you can get it cheaper but for $150? maybe on an hour long flight.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

As it happens I have a multi-segment cross country trip (US) coming up in a couple days. Was curious so just checked, the hour long leg is $76 to upgrade, the 5 hour legs are $194 and the 1:30 leg is $145. Slightly tempted on longer leg returning, but leaving early in the morning so not paying $194 extra for the same coffee I will get for free in the back. If it was an evening meal flight maybe

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

#3 isn't bullshit, it's just highly contextual. IF 1st class/business isn't sold, they will start trying to pawn them off on existing ticket-holders as "upgrades." But you don't buy a cheap seat 3-months out and immediately get offered super-cheap 1st class upgrades. It's more like during check in the day before--IF they haven't been sold. And the more in your group, the lower the chances of being offered. And price will depend on distance. But it is sometimes possible to get a good discount.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That’s exactly right. Of course upgrades are cheaper than buying upfront. Problem is they might never be available or sometimes you can only upgrade to middle seats.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What is a aisle handlebar?

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Seat armrest…most people can’t figure out how to get them to raise but they almost all do with a little investigation. I’m a 6’8” Giant and need all the room I can get so getting those up makes a world of difference for me.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Armrest.

3 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Couldn’t they just call it that?

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Some people call things by different names

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

I only know handlebar as the steering mechanism for a bicycle and a hipster mustache. It is not a known synonym for armrest.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Âż?

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Not sure about all airports but of the airports I have been in you don't get to pick the security checkpoint everyone is in one big ass line and is sent to different checkpoints as they reach the end.

3 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

yep, was in Heathrow last summer, it was basically one line - spent almost three hours in it.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Disgusting D:

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

yeah, despite arriving four hours early I just made it to my terminal right when the economy class was boarding because of how long that cue was (I was also sick as a dog, which didn't help in hustling to get to it in time)

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It 100% depends on airport. I've been in many that point to a queue and others that have a long, general queue to a point, but then after they check your ticket and ID, just kinda open up to a series of metal detectors and x-ray machines and you can go to whichever ones are staffed. That said, I'd wager there is very little practical time-savings for individuals as people may be subconscious, but aren't stupid and will head to noticeably shorter lines in any direction.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I could believe that, if you observed all day and counted travelers, you might find something like 'the line on a far left consistently has 5-8% fewer people go through it over the course of a day,' but for any given specific traveler, at any given specific point in time, that may mean the line is something like 10 or 11 people long instead of 12, not a significant time savings.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep. It’s one line until you get to the end, then they tell you which one to go to.

3 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 3

This is literally people in every situation somehow. Self-checkout that's been there for 5 years? "Has this always been here?" Machine clearly telling them, visibly and audibly, to put the item in the check out area while they hold it in hand slapping at the screen and looking around for an attendant to help figure out what is wrong...

Holy crap yes! Flying in the u.s. everyone is yelling the directions every few minutes, there's tv with the instructions AND posters with the instructions. Yet every time there are plenty getting right up to the line and haven't done a damn thing. When we were in Japan getting through took all of 15 minutes because everyone as soon as they got in line had everything ready to go.

I feel his pain in my soul.

As a very seasoned flyer, most of these don't work. Might be a US domestic thing. International? Good fucking luck lol

You're telling me full-sized bed pillow with hidden computer keyboards in them aren't a real thing that trick airline personnel?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Obviously that one is real.

This. Same with coupons in supermarkets: the rest of the world (at least the parts I know) does NOT work like the US supposedly does. 100$ receipt lowered to 12$ by handing in coupons? Not a chance in hell.

My experience confirms yours both. All these stories are like scifi-fantasy to me.

I fly about twice a month domestic US and this is an entertaining yet odd list.

As an airline pilot I can confidently say that most of these are bs, and aren’t really a thing that will work. In theory most of them sound like they work 100%, but that isn’t the case. The only one I would say could be one is about checking your carry on at the gate.

3 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

I mean, it's kind of dumb still. Carry on is way smaller, most airlines limit the weight as well, so checking that doesn't actually help. It's not the same as a checked bag.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also, you usually want your carry on AND checked bag. You can’t bring two carry ons with you. This isn’t any different from just packing light with one carry on

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But this doesn’t give you any advantages over just taking a carry on in the plane with you, in terms of quantity of what you can bring. People usually check luggage because they have more stuff to bring than can fit on a carry on.

It does depending on the airline. For example some airlines depending on the type of fare you bought you are allowed one checked luggage. However if you need more people will take a slightly larger carry on with the hopes that they offer free carry on check in. So they do that as a way to have a second checked bag for free. However this doesn’t work for all airlines.

As a business traveler, I have watched people get charged for trying to gate check carryons unless the gate attendant has requested it. The cheap upgrade tip often works, though.

the upgrade "hack" is kind of true. Generally you can get an upgrade for cheaper after booking the economy ticket first. But its a gamble that an upgrade will be available, and you also have to make sure your ticket is the sort that can be upgraded.

All the ones about saving money are BS. But “only pack clothes in complimentary colours” and “bring an empty water bottle to fill after security” are fair enough.

I dunno; I've been on plenty of flights both US domestic and international, and #12—the moveable aisle seat armrest—has always worked. It's the reason I always select aisle seats on flights now.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's why we are saying most. I can't comment on that, because I always fly window

On a few airplanes the armrest release is practically hidden so it’s not the easiest to lift or on others it’s a fixed armrest on the aisle.

The first class tip is a giveaway it is US domestic.

Also you'll never get the upgrade. Now they're usually offered to the customers with the highest loyalty status

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

No, they rather sell them at a discount than give them away for free.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

according to my gf, who is an upgrade-o-holic. There's a pecking order. they prefer people buying them outright. People with loyalty status tend to be higher on the wait list, and can sometimes score upgrade before selling to folks on a discount. it is a bit RNG especially with the agent helping you over the phone.

They obviously want to make sure there are seats available for full price purchase as long as possible. Selling at discount is second best. When moving people from overbooked economy they pick by status, mostly. I've flown as platinum card holder and not being upgraded despite empty seats in business class.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Maybe. I can only say that flying internationally, there's been price differences, but nothing worth mentioning.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A first class trip is like $10,000. You are not going to be upgraded for $200.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yep exactly.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, but sometimes it's been only 9000!
