I grew up on comics. What these fucks have done to my childhood...

Disney have been grossly injecting Israeli Nazi Ideological bullshit in their movies pretty brazenly (Cpt. America - Brave New World had full on IDF soldier as a super soldier!) and now this!

Fuck Disney, AI art, and streaming. Yes, streaming! Some of you forgot why we allowed streaming to become a thing.

Want to fight these fucks? Hurt their wallets!

Fuck this! YO-HO! HOIST THE COLORS!

Disney firing its own artists for AI. Yeah I haven’t watch a Disney movie in a long time.

Sounds like a Disney Boycott to me.

It's funny ... Ugly Sonic from Paramount was sort of the original Slop. Everyone hated it. So they listened and ditched the slop. I've seen Sonic 1, 2 and 3 at the theatre. And then Disney made Ugly Sonic good in the Chip&Dale movie. Because it was kinda real, maybe? But that's likely the last Disney movie I'll watch.

Disney was mostly absolute crap looong before AI. They just completed their transformation now. Of course it is sad how many great IPs they ruined and continue to ruin in the process, but anyone shocked at this point has been blind for 15-20 years.

I love that indie animation is having a moment. Yesterday there was confirmation that the last episode of Amazing Digital Circus would be in cinemas across the world. Not sure if it's a feature length episode, but I'm there for it.

Not defending this move, but I'm not sure Stan is the best benchmark here? Didn't he make a couple of interesting choices in his time?

4 months ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 2

Stan stole anything and everything from anyone he could.

4 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Mainly based around ownership credit and creator disputes— Stan, like Trumptard, enjoyed putting his name on things that didn't belong to him or weren't created by him personally. It was a problem that eventually got sorted by time and the courts.

And whereas I'd like to think that Stan would've rejected a machine outputting doodles, that's essentially how he treated his artists when Marvel started, so I unfortunately think you might be right.

I've been saying this for 15 years. I'm saying it now even more so.

AI isn't the Beast ... Corporations are. Corporations have no souls, only profit motive. Any management at a Corporation who attempts morale restraint will be replaced by someone who has no hesitation in making decisions that will send their own souls to hell... as long as the company makes a profit.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There was no AI 15 years ago. Disney is dangerous and toxic and I don't disagree with what you said.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You know, after how much of a flop Wish was, you'd think they would learn that generic-ass shit isn't the way to success.
Then again they probably think that by cutting costs down to a fraction every flop will still turn a profit. And so we enter the trash age. We had the golden age, silver age, bronze age, iron age and now we've got the trash age.

#1 wasn’t there a strike about this very issue a few years ago?

Never underestimate the sheer depths of what Stan Lee would've "approved".

4 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

What did Lee do? I've never heard about underhanded tricks from him before now, and I'm seeing two different comments calling him a jerk.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Here's a good starting off point: https://www.tcj.com/our-publisher-responds/ If you simply put "Stan Lee" into that site's search you'll get a library of pretty comprehensive criticism. There's also a semi-recent book on him: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/True_Believer:_The_Rise_and_Fall_of_Stan_Lee

Neat, TIL. TY for the info +1

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My only regret is that I can only cancel Disney + once, and I already did when they introduced ads. But I will continue to not watch their movies. They'll never know they lost my money, but I will know.

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Yet, Disney and other corporations want us all to feel bad about pirating. As the saying goes "Ladron que roba a ladrón. Tiene cien años de perdón". "A thief that steals from thieves, has a century of forgiveness". Free Luigi!

Just FYI, Sabra has been around since 1980 in the comics. Hasn't aged well certainly, but not exactly a new thing.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Also the movie completely changed her backstory from a mutant working for Mossad, to a normal human who was raised and trained in the Red Room like Black Widow, and never associates her with the IDF.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What's all this complaining about? People keep buying it. People keep going to the movies for lame "rereleases on the big screen." People keep taking their kids to Disney because "I don't want my kid to miss out and I can afford it."

The market is speaking loud and clear...it is saying that it is fine with all of this worker abuse and price gouging.

No politicians are coming to save us. No one is going to regulate this.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm glad I never paid for Disney+. Don't even have a Disney account. Then again, I can also say the same thing for all the other streaming "services" out there.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No more disney Slop! i cancelled my Hulu and Disney memberships!

I cancelled since Jimmy Kimmel. Not going back

if the AI Slop factory keeps producing crap, people wont even bother pirating it anymore

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is like utorrent?

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Better. It's like Netflix/d+ but less costly and you don't support AI loving companies

I was forced to train a whole crew of folks from India to do Rotomation and Matchmove for Sony Pictures Imageworks. We all (including me) eventually got laid off. Then about 2 years later they closed the SPII office in India & replaced them with even lower-paid folks from (I think) Myanmar. I’m now 60 yo admin asst at half the pay I used to make ‘cause I can’t get VFX work in this country.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ai will only do more, learn more, and get better and better until it can do every job. The world is going to have to change in a big way. We need leaders who recognize this and can start changing things now, or it's going to be a very painful process. This will be the biggest change in lifestyle in human history. The country that gets there first will become an extremely powerful force in the world.

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

The answer to all these incidents is easy. Full-stop. Cancel, delete, move on. If not, you're just addicted to crap content, and supporting and funding evil in the process. It's just TV. It's just another shit movie. If you think Disneyland is a place to go, you're a fucking loser. Move on.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Jfc Disney.... *sigh*

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It will be noticeable. A lot of people will stop paying for it. Not enough, but they will lose money on this decision. All the more reason to protest the building of new data centers in any state and checking to see if existing ones have good sprinkler systems and fire resistant materials everywhere.

4 months ago | Likes 86 Dislikes 3

But have you thought of the next quarterly report? That will have way less "expenditures" and the negatives won't have caught up yet? Probably be a few quarters until it actually goes negative. And the CEO will get some very good quarterly bonuses.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, that can change rapidly if the "AI" that replaced all the humans, can't even run to churn out the next live action slop.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The work the artists have done is well in the pipeline for the next quarter. The long term consequences are going to be less fun, but shareholders only care about short term, they all know they are "smart" enough to sell in time.

Share holders have 0 care for the long term viability of literally anything.

Everyone seems very interested in fire safety (my profession) these days. I think I might make a post about some things people should definitely avoid. Like how you can accidentally call a number to put a fire alarm on “test” while someone else accidentally closes the control valve and empties the sprinkler system.

4 months ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 1

Building maintenance here. Those fire systems typically require at least a password and usually a authorized name to go with it. They have 3 levels of signal, trouble, supervisory, and alarm. Most people ignore troubles.....like maybe a cut phone line. Supervisory is usually something was touched that shouldn't have been (shut off valve) and alarms come from detectors, pull stations, and sprinkler flow.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I know how it works thanks. I’m inspecting a fire alarm literally right now.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yea I think in terms of safety, it is very important for you to make sure we are all very safe around those things. Don’t want to make a mistake

4 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Mistakes were made at the TP warehouse. I heard from colleagues on LinkedIn that there had been a small fire earlier l. A small fire pops a sprinkler head or two. Fire gets extinguished and someone closed the control valve on the riser. (So the building doesn’t flood) FD shows up confirms that everyone is safe and puts the building on fire watch. (The building is still in alarm and they have to wait for a company like mine to reset)
Sent everyone home. Some guy with a zippo volunteered to stay.

Didn't the courts rule that AI generated art can't be copyrighted? https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/1rkqzzd/aigenerated_art_cant_be_copyrighted_after_suprem

4 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

They did but they only meant that for the poor people. The corporations will be able to do it.

4 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

This story that made the rounds has always been rooted in misinformation. What happened is this guy, Thaler, made his own AI image generator which made an image. He then applied for copyright with the generator listed as the copyright holder. You cannot do that, only humans can hold copyright. Basically he is a crazy man who insisted on filling out the form incorrectly. In reality, the USCO has already granted copyright to hundreds of AI generated and AI assisted works...with human author names.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Example of copyrighted AI art with a story about it: https://news.artnet.com/art-world/invoke-snags-first-ai-image-copyright-2608219

USCO guidelines for copyright of AI art, see page 3 for citation that they've granted hundreds already: https://copyright.gov/ai/Copyright-and-Artificial-Intelligence-Part-2-Copyrightability-Report.pdf

Thanks for the info!

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I understand it's probably not the news you would've wanted regarding the copyrightability of AI, but I appreciate that you accept it. I mean, anyone can look further into the details of Thaler's case and learn the same thing, the Verge article makes it clearer towards the end of the article. If you see others who were misinformed, please let them know! It's not about whether AI is good or bad, just...it's good to understand the facts.

Hate to say this, but in IT this has been the way for 20 years now. Bring in the Indians from Tata to be our "partners" then fire the local IT and things go to shit.

Then when the bloom was off the rose it was "you're fired, in order to get severance you have to train these new IT slaves (yes, an H1B can't get another job, they're slaves)

Corporate is and has always been like this: The goal is to have either slaves or serfs (better than slaves, why own an asset when you can lease it?)

When I worked in IT there were so many dudes that said they didn’t need a union. One guy even told me Linux was communist because people worked on it for free. No shit.

Yep.......

Nice description. H1B lined up at the bus stop. Nice guys. Just clueless 🙈

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The Indian consultancies have turned into parasites, though. They come in and replace core aspects. B/c one worker is cheap, company thinks it's getting a 1:1 replacement deal. But, for every 1 replacement there's a PM, BA, etc, etc going along with it. They take on a task, then their consultants talk execs into taking over other aspects to save money. Eventually company is just a husk. At one company I worked we had a call with 5 offshorers to fix a problem 1 person should do. Absolutle waste.

4 months ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

I just had to have conversations with 6 people because an Indian offshore "contract specialist" send all 10 NDAs of vendors participating in an RFP to one vendor. I now get to follow up with legal tomorrow on this mess

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep. Saw this happen as well. Within a few years everything is much worse. Oh well, *shrug*

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I worked vendor support. Had one ticket where over the course of it my contact was replaced with a fresh H1B and immediately things went downhill. Had them take a packet capture for something, they neglected to use the filters I sent them and sent me a capture of _everything_ from their point of sale system, including lots of sensitive PII that shouldn't have been. Had to report it to my company and theirs as a potential data breach. They didn't understand what the filter did, so didnt use it.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So some folks will read this and go "wow, you're racist!" I was in college with 90% indian population, and got to hear their side of things. Most of them graduating with masters have to go through these indian consultancies to get hired, b/c that's how they get their tech job. Their family takes on a crazy loan to send their kid overseas for a good ed, then a handful of them get into FAANGS, and rest are stuck with consultancy work. They hate it, b/c they get paid shit while company makes bank.

4 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Yep. Don't worry, everyone gets fucked and the H1B's are treated like slaves. But hey the owners of the companies who book record profits for a few years make bank on bonuses and the owners of TATA make bank as well so all's good, right?

Remember, it's not a race war it's a class war.

4 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Yeah as a current employee of Disney.... They are starting to open a shop in New Delhi, India...

as a software developer... I can totally see that these people are a threat to my current job.

Quit. ASAP.

In this economy?

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, even in this economy. Working for these monsters gives them a sanction to continue doing what they do. And yes, I have walked away from companies even during bad times.

There are better places. Smaller companies tend to be a hell of a lot better than the monster dinosaurs.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'll have Disney fire me, i already left the DoD. While Disney has its issue it's one of the only companies with strong unions and a work force that can rebel.

The only other companies in my area are a greater evil compared to Disney. Or are doing the same shit as Disney but have worse working conditons. What we need to do is complain to our government to not allow US companies to do this.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

30 years ago IT salaries were on the up running up to Y2K and needing qualified people to fix things. Lots of people went to uni around then and got computer adjacent degrees. Y2K ended and every HR team said "these uni leavers will work for half your pay, clearly you're overpaid". And this started nearly 20 years have skimping on paying the people who made things actually work.
AI is the new boondoggle to drive down wages. Again.

4 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yep. Again. But hey the salaries for the execs go way way up so all is good, right?

It's the ultimate case of "I got mine, Jack!"

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Nearly every single Gen Y person I know who aimed for a tech career essentially wasted their teens learning to code, only to graduate into a recession (after Y2K/tech bubble) and compete with the slew of others who'd been recommended the exact same trajectory from thoughtless Boomers, eventually to give up after getting bottle-necked and working retail (or completely re-training after abandoning tech). Either no lesson is learned at all, or is at least not passed on, b/c it's happening again.

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I mean, I graduated in 2009, and I've had a pretty good career as a .Net developer. I can see the writing on the wall though, and I'm assuming my career isn't long for this world, which is why I've always planned - and saved - to retire in my late 40's/early 50s.

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's ideal then, I'm glad to hear that you're doing well by it. What you've done sounds relatively similar to those I know who've also made bank on the same track. If you're retiring around 50, that's even better.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, luckily I made the good decision in my 20's to save aggressively. I have a family history of early heart attacks, and while I'm healthier than they were (and I'm on a GLP-1, which is great for heart disease) I decided I wanted to spend years enjoying life rather than just working. I legit don't understand how other programmers (at my career level) without kids don't have ridiculous amounts of savings. We get paid silly money (not a good career choice though, that era is ending fast)
