I understand where you are coming from. But it is important to remember a majority of the poachers are people living in an impoverished area trying anything they can to take care of their family. They don't make big checks for what they gather. The people making the money are the importers and exporters. Those are the one who need to be stopped most. Some places started giving poachers jobs catching poachers. And have seen drastic drops in the number of poached animals.

I never understood why they always burn the tusks/hides etc when they confiscate it from poachers. Why not sell them? It would make them less scarce which would bring down the black market price for said goods and they could use the proceeds to hire more ppl to protect against the poachers. Seems like a wasted opportunity to me

Some places have tried to make a move to humanly gather tusks when possible and sale them for profit. But some people in their governments are fighting it. But I agree it could be a good step in the right direction.

I imagine it's because that would financially incentivize corruption.
As a protector, you could make a lot of money by "confiscating" a lot of tusks/hides from your poacher buddies who never get caught but whose caches you keep finding. You then catch other poachers for real, to make the deal exclusive to your crew.
The simplest way to disincentivize that kind of scheme is by destroying the goods.

Because that's not how economics works. Demand only goes down when supply has fully met it. If they allowed the sale of a little contraband, then the market for it keeps going and demand remains/increases creating incentive to keep supplying. Destroying that stuff is about making sure the market stays very small, keeping demand low, and hopefully transitioning to non-existant as tastes change.

Apply that logic to drugs. It's illegal to sell them, and if you seized kilos of cocaine, selling it to flood the market and bring down prices would not be acceptable.
Sale of animal parts is illegal so even law enforcement can't do it.

He was threatening him if he didn't move because he felt his school had the right to be there and the black kid didn't go to his school. The white kid and his twin brothers were known bullies. The black kid told him something like "swing on me see what happens I have a knife." Because of that it really can't be anything but murder. If he would have instead silently 1/2
